Larry Dean Raymond, 16, of Greene was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon, November 8, on parole violation charges and for breaking and entering the Cities Service Station in Greene on November 4. Deputy Marvin Barth recovered some stolen items from Raymond's car. He was sent to the Eldora Reformatory until age 21 and was taken there Tuesday to begin serving.
There will be no Cub Pack meeting this month. A joint November December meeting is set for Wednesday December 14. New Cub Scouts will be introduced and all earned awards presented. The traditional Christmas party will be held.
Robert Schroeder was discharged from the United States Army and arrived at his parents home, Mr and Mrs Herman Schroeder, on Sunday evening. He spent the past year and a half in Creilsheim Germany.
Hutler County wool growers received $9,402.99 in wool incentive payments for the 1959 marketing year. Theo J. Bauman, chairman of the county ASC, announced that 3879 producers sold wool and unshorn lambs between April 1, 1959 and March 31, 1960. Shorn wool payments were $43.20 per $100 of last year’s sale value, with unshorn lambs paid 75 cents per hundredweight for five animal lots. The national program, now in its sixth year, aims to raise the average price to 62 cents per pound.
P F C Daryl W Shook returned from a 30 day leave with relatives and is scheduled for reassignment to Okinawa for a year. He departed Friday afternoon for Camp Pendleton California before deployment.
Leo John Schmitt 58 of Greene area died of a heart attack at his farm home Saturday. Born July 25 1902 in Roseville he married Florence Mason City June 1 1935. Survivors include wife two sons Dean and Lee three brothers John Adaza Lawrence Charles City George Marble Rock and three sisters Anna Hart Earl Staudt Marble Rock and Mrs Robert Jones Mason City. Requiem High Mass was led by Rev Philip Schmitt with sermon by Rev P J Boyle at St Marys Greene. Burial in St Marys Cemetery Greene. Hamiltons Funeral Chapel directed arrangements.
Two cars were extensively damaged in an accident last Wednesday morning November 9 on Highway 14 on the west side of Greene. Mrs. Dean Davis drove a 1960 Chevrolet off the highway to park and was struck in the back by a car driven by Mrs. Lester Van Raden of Allison. Davis suffered neck injuries and Van Raden a bruised shoulder.
New residents Mr and Mrs Paul Lewison welcomed a son named Todd William at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on Tuesday November 15 weighing 11 pounds 8% ounces. Mr and Mrs Kermit Vay of Osage welcomed a daughter named Debra Kay born November 10 weighing seven pounds eleven ounces. Mrs Vay is former Maxine Daub, daughter of Mr and Mrs W J Daub, with Mrs Daub helping in Osage to care for grandchildren.
Greene Cub Scouts canvassed the town on Tuesday afternoon November 8 to remind residents to vote. The tabulation showed 73 percent had already voted or intended to, while others were not at home. Twelve Boy Scouts assisted the Cubs.
Mrs Frank Nikolas of Hampton underwent surgery one day last week at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. She is the former Betty Smeins, daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Smeins.
Henry W. Dralle owner of Dralle's Department Store celebrates his golden anniversary this month. His career began in 1910 with Wm. Buchholz and Son and he bought an interest in 1916. After 1917 ownership shifted among family and partners before Dralle gained full control in 1936. He and his wife are parents of four children involved in the business. A Greene Commercial Club supper in St Peter's Lutheran Church on November 30 at 6 30 p.m. honors him. Harold Allison chairs the ticket committee and attendees include local business people farmers and community members.
Dr and Mrs BR Ladwig returned from the American Dental Association annual convention held in the Sports Arena Los Angeles from October 17 to 20. About 15 000 to 20 000 dentists attended four days of clinics lectures motion pictures and demonstrations with over 200 exhibitors. After the event they visited the aunt of the former in San Francisco.
Charles Williams of Greene, longtime resident, will celebrate his 161st birthday on Thursday, November 17. Born in 1859 near Edgewood, he moved to Osage in 1877, helped organize several local enterprises, and once sold autos. He has voted absentee for the first time this year and is active in Masonry, Shrine, and community affairs.
M Leroy Barnett 77 a former Greene resident died in Boulder Colorado on Monday November 7 He was born in Greene to Walter Barnett and his wife He leaves three daughters Mrs John Fletcher California Mrs Verle Stuart Boulder and Mrs George Crowley Sequach Colorado three brothers Fred Herbert of Greene Scott of Charles City two sisters Mrs Ray Allen Aredale and Mrs M L Bragg Greene He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Pearl Boggs of Greene Funeral services were held at 1 pm Saturday at the Presbyterian Church in Boulder with burial there
The Butler County Peace Officers Association met at City Hall in Allison on Thursday November 10 with twenty two members present. Mayor Hoogestrat of Parkersburg was elected president Marvin Barth deputy Sheriff was chosen vice president and James Jonker highway patrolman of Parkersburg was elected secretary treasurer. The group plans to meet every two months.
Mrs. Walter Zeck of Aplington was named director of the 1961 New March of Dimes for Butler County announced by Robert D. Ray Iowa State Chairman of The National Foundation. Campaign runs January 2 to 31. The new director said the expanded program aims to prevent birth defects arthritis and to continue polio control. She credited Butler County residents with long support of the March of Dimes and the Salk vaccine and urged continued volunteer work and contributions.
The Cub Scouts will begin practicing basketball on Saturday morning at the high school gym. Cubs aged 8 and 9 report at 9:00 am and those aged 10 at 10:00 am. Boys should bring gym shoes sweat socks supporters gym trunks and a T shirt.
County residents receive Christmas Seal letters as 4500 envelopes go out under the Butler County Tuberculosis and Health Association campaign. The goal is to reach every home for funds supporting tuberculin testing, chest X rays, patient follow up, and local state TB programs. Greene’s chair is Mrs Harrison Bone with township leads Mrs Ben Stubbe Bennedette, Mrs Henry Bliss Coldwater, and Mrs Raymond Johnson Dayton.
Fourteen dads and fifteen lads began a scout day at Marble Rock with church services then gathered at the Scout Reservation. They hiked three and a half miles, played football, rested, and ate a charcoal meal at noon before finishing with a seven inning softball game. The group returned to Greene around 2 30 in the afternoon.
After two weeks with his parents Mr and Mrs Rick Menken John D Menken reported to the Naval Air Station at Patuxent Maryland He will then travel to Argentina Newfoundland in two weeks time.
Richard Bruns and Frank Rerbohm have returned home from Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City after receiving treatment. Both men are listed as recently discharged with their recovery underway.

Rambler basketball opens Friday November 18 versus Tripoli. Coach Jerry Eimers reports 23 players, five returning letterwinners including Gabe Wunsch Green Rottler and Kingery. The Greene Ramblers finished 1960 with six conference wins and three non conference losses to claim the Cornbow Conference. Top scorers were Ronald Taylor eight touchdowns plus three extra points for 51 points Dennis Wunsch eight TDs and one extra point for 49 Steve Rottler seven TDs and one extra point for 43 and Doug Marsh four TDs and four extra points for 28. Letter winners included seniors Tom Green Jim Klunder Tom Nimt Larry Gabe Dennis Wunsch Steve Rottler Don Clikeman Larry Peters and juniors Marvin Peters Don Butz laff Charles Brinkman Mike Brunsma Dallas Steere Doug Marsh Ronald Taylor Earl But tler Ewing Miller and sophomores Mike Jewell Gary Weichers.
John Dorman 69 former Greene resident died at his Cedar Falls home Saturday night. Born April 16 1891 in Shell Rock to John and Abbie Dorman, he married Anna Barth September 22 1915. Survivors include his wife two sons Harold and Percy four daughters Marcella Vesta Mary Lou Marie four brothers and seven sisters. Funeral Tuesday at Nelson Funeral Home Cedar Falls with burial Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Greene attendees listed with Barth and Kingery families.
Mayors court records show penalties for several individuals: Larry Franklin Mason of Marble Rock fined $5.00 plus $4.00 costs for speeding. Dean Keifer of Greene fined $15.00 plus $4.00 costs for disturbing the peace with firecrackers. Richard Clair Balkenende of Marble Rock fined $25.00 plus $4.00 costs for speeding. Carl LeRoy Boggess of Charles City fined $20.00 plus $4.00 costs for speeding. Florian Rutz of Greene fined $30.00 plus $4.00 costs with the $30.00 suspended on condition for intoxication. Robert T. Frey of Mason City fined $5.00 plus $4.00 costs for stop sign violation. J B Knight's Court lists Marie Elizabeth Scantlebury of Hampton fined $5.00 plus $4.00 costs for a stop sign violation at Markersburg.
In Cedar Valley Hospital Mrs. Eugene Wiltse is a patient undergoing treatment. Mrs. George Kielman is a patient who recently had the second operation on her hip after a fall at home.
In Mason City Mrs. E. L. Bruce was taken there Monday to spend the winter months in the Good Samaritan Home.
The Ramblerettes opened last week with two wins at Plainfield. The B squad beat the host 31 to 26 and the varsity won 31 to 26. Carol Majewski led the second team with 18 points, while Judy Spratt led the varsity with 17 from eight field goals and one free throw.
A Disaster Nursing Conference will be held in Charles City by Floyd County Chapter of the American Red Cross on Friday November 18 at I C O F Hall 423 N Main St. Sessions run 9:00 am to 12:00 noon and 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm led by Miss Betty Streit Red Cross Nursing Field Representative. Nurses and all interested people from the county and surrounding area are urged to attend.
Mr and Mrs Dave Schroeder announce the birth of a son on Sunday November 18 at Cedar Valles hospital in Charles Civ. The baby weighs 7 pounds 14 ounces and has been named Darrell Robert.
