Greene County arrests in string of local robberies

Vandals struck Majewski Texaco Station and McRoberts Implement on Tuesday evening November 7. Over 450 dollars in tires, a tool box, and tools were stolen. Bruce Roeder 23 and Douglas Teeple 21 were charged with larceny in the nighttime. Roger Clark 20 faced possession of stolen goods charges. All released on recognizance. four Floyd County juveniles turned to authorities. another 16 year old admitted incidents and was sent to juvenile authorities. Deputy Barth will return recovered items to owners after investigation.

Mr and Mrs Dale Grice welcome Jill Katherine Grice born Monday November 13 at Floyd County Memorial Hospital Charles City weighing 8 pounds 10 ounces. Soldier Daniel Wihlm Receives Army Discharge

Sp4 Daniel Wihlm arrived home Thursday from Fort Carson Colorado where he was discharged after two years of service He spent a year in Viet Nam and six months at Fort Carson with the 5th Division.

To Work on Athletic Field This Evening

Shortage of help at the athletic field last Sunday delayed the sod removal. Workers meet at 6:30 p.m. to roll and remove sod. Dr. Truitt, club president, moves the Commercial Club meeting to 9:00 p.m. or sooner if finished. Free coffee and donuts at City Hall. Bring tractors and leaders to haul rolled sod off. Black dirt fill to be placed and leveled Thursday.

Post Office to Close Thanksgiving observance notice

The Greene Post Office will be closed all day on November 28rd in observance of Thanksgiving Day. No rural delivery or counter service on that day. Mail will be received distributed and dispatched as on all other holidays.

Christmas Seal Letters Mailed To Area Residents

The 1967 Butler County Christmas Seal campaign is underway with 4,635 letters mailed. Mrs. Louie Korte and volunteers organized the mailing at United Church of Christ in Allison, Marian Law aided, proceeds fund TB and respiratory disease fight locally.

Supt V J Tatum attended the Iowa State University Administrators Clinic at Ames on November 15 16 and 17 The annual invitational meeting studied pressing school admin problems The theme was Youth Schools and School Administrators Dr Carl Nordstrom of Brooklyn College was the consultant The conference explored causes and solutions for student resistance movements and dropouts in colleges and high schools One session reviewed three experimental programs aimed at increasing educational efficiency.

Greene High School students perform South Pacific in the auditorium on Monday and Tuesday November 20 and 21 at 8 00 p m directed by Harold Blosser and Ray Holtz casting includes Becky Smith as Wagana Marcia Kelly as Ensign Nellie Forbush and Larry Tack as Emile de Becque The action unfolds on two South Pacific islands at the end of World War I plus a workshop scene at University of Northern Iowa Cedar Falls Saturday November 18 with Marcia Kelly and Larry Tack presenting a portion.

Three Inducted Into Armed Service From Butler County

Three men from Butler County were inducted into the army in November. Dennis D. Buss of Allison Ronald C. Smith of Plainfield and Gary L. Schrage of Parkersburg filled the call. The December call is for four men with five set for pre induction physicals at Fort Des Moines on December 19. Steven L. Hinders of Alison enlisted in the U S Air Force in October and Vernon D. Ritzman of Denver Colorado, formerly of Dumont, enlisted in September. Vernon enlisted at rank of Captain in the Medical Corp as he received his internship at Denver General Hospital.

Three Corn Field Fires Near Greene

Greene Fire Department responded to three field fires around Greene, two on Saturday afternoon and one on Thursday evening. The Thursday blaze burned a Vern Rottler farm field northwest of town. Saturday fires affected Walter Behnke’s northeast field and Tom Zurcher’s nearby field. Sparks from a pickup exhaust ignited the Zurcher field. Behnke’s corn was partly picked and Gabe’s still stood. Overall damage was minimal.

Plan meeting of the Butter County Association for Retarded Children at the Allison special education school on Wednesday evening November 15 at 8:00 p.m. The film And Crown Thy Good depicting a community's approach to schooling for their retarded children will be shown. Public invited to attend.

Rites Held for Leonard Moser 61

Leonard Moser 61 of Marble Rock died at home on Sunday November 12. He was born August 22, 1906 in Marble Rock, son of Peter and Mary Hillborn Moser, and farmed most of his life. Survived by wife Ethel a daughter Marlene Gjerset of Minneapolis two grandchildren two brothers Clark of Greene Chester of Charles City and one sister June Johnson of Rockwell. Funeral services Tuesday November 14 at 2:00 PM at Marble Rock Methodist Church with Rev. Byron Ayers officiating. Burial in Hillside Cemetery Marble Rock. Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge.

First Accident on Relocated Highway 14

Deputies report the first accident on the newly relocated Highway 14 occurred about 12 30 pm at the black top road intersection on the west edge. Raymond Johnson of Allison stopped at the stop sign and pulled in front of Margery Heltman of Charles City traveling on Highway 1. Both drivers had minor facial injuries. Johnson received a stop sign violation summons. Johnson’s 1964 Pontiac and Zeitman’s 1964 Plymouth were demolished.

Open Meeting Invited For Greene Community School Board

Ramblers Fall 31 19 to Ackley Raiders End Season

Greene and host Ackley Geneva used air attacks as Bryce Zacharias threw six touchdown passes to lead the Raiders past the Ramblers 31 to 19. Greene’s ground defense stalled Ramblers backs Stuntz and Merfeld who were hurt, leaving Greene short-handed for the second half.

Butler County Sheriff Pete Boomgarden is in Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo for an extended heart examination. He entered Hampton Wednesday and was moved to Allan Memorial. Deputy Marvin Barth, now in charge, reports his condition satisfactory.

Rottler Promoted to Army Private E-2 at Ft Knox

Steven P. Rottler, 24, son of Mr and Mrs Vernon C Rottler of Greene, was promoted to private pay grade E-2 upon completion of basic training at Ft Knox Kentucky on October 27. The early promotion came two months ahead of schedule as an incentive for top trainees. Up to half of trainees in a cycle may qualify based on range scores physical proficiency test and leadership potential.

Navy Sailor Visits Parents Before Viet Nam Tour

Shultz, son of Mr and Mrs Rayond Shultz, spent a five day leave with his parents before returning to Port Hueneme California where he has been stationed for four months. Paul, in the navy, has served eight months in Viet Nam and will depart for another tour at Dang Ha in the demilitarized zone.

Stauffers welcome daughter Sherri Lynn in Waverly

Mr and Mrs Roger Stauffer of Allison announce the birth of a daughter on Tuesday November 7 at St Joseph Mercy Hospital Waverly. The baby weighed 8 pounds 7 ounces and is named Sherri Lynn. In Service Meeting for Greene County School Staff

School counselors principals and superintendents attended an in service program at the R E C building in Allison on Thursday November 9. Dr Leonard S Feldt director of the fall testing program at the University of Iowa was guest speaker. Topic Iowa Tests of Educational Development given to all local high school students each fall. Program sponsored by the County Superintendent's office under Guy Olson Butler Franklin County Guidance Coordinator. Ramblerettes open season with two wins over Plainfield

The Greene Ramblerettes beat Plainfield 73 to 43 in the opener while the reserves won 65 to 54. Mary Rattler led with 35 points and Rhonda Majewski scored 41 for Greene's reserves. Guards and returning letter winners are listed, with a next away game set for Saturday November 18 at Rockwell Swaledale.
