Adult Farmers To Meet Monday Postponed By Weather

The Adult Farmer meeting was postponed due to bad weather. The next gathering is set for Monday evening November 25 at 8:00 at Greene Community School with guest speaker Dr John B Herrick Iowa State College Ames on Beef Cattle Diseases. Dr J P Hoben and Dr William Andrews will join the panel discussion, and an oyster stew will be served afterward.

Greene Community School closure announced on KCHA radio

Mr. V. J. Tatum states that if Greene Community School must close due to impassable roads, the decision will be announced over radio station KCHA in Charles City at 1580 on the dial.

The Greene Community Parent Teachers Association met in the school auditorium for a November session. Pioneer Girls led by Esther Smith opened with a ceremony and songs, followed by piano solos by Pamela Drakle and Jane Witwer. Reports from Mrs Ipsen, Mrs Mead, and Rev Parks covered the Mason City state convention.

Lillian Mae Lampman lifelong Wilmar resident died at her farm home after an extended illness. Born January 14 1915 near Wilmar she married Alfred Lampman August 25 1940. Studies Completed At The Big Marsh

The West Cedar River diversion into Big Marsh near Parkersburg has ended as engineers finish this phase of State Conservation Commission studies. A temporary plug and 11,000 ditch enabled intake, wells drilled for seepage analysis, and daily water level observations showed seepage rates. Findings may inform future Big Marsh recommendations. further studies may continue next season.

Greene man in critical condition after oil truck crash

C P Witwer of Greene is in critical condition with third degree burns over about two thirds of his body after his Standard Oil truck overturned and burned near Clarksville while returning from a Waterloo meeting. He freed himself, was aided by local residents, and transported to Cedar Valley hospital and then St Marys Rochester. Blood donations are urged through Glenn Truex.

John O'Brien's First Solo Flight in Pensacola

Naval Aviation Cadet John F. O'Brien, son of Mr and Mrs George A O'Brien of Greene, made his first solo flight on October 23 at Pensacola Florida. He attended Wartburg College before entering the Naval Aviation Cadet Program at Glenview Illinois and is undergoing training in Communications Navigation Engineering Athletics Aerology and civil air regulations during basic flight training.

Girl Scout officials announce no swimming at the Charles City YMCA pool tonight due to the junior class play and bad road conditions. The Girl Scouts will hold their regular meeting next Monday night and will announce when swimming will resume.

Airman Third Class Donn E. Tindall left November 12 for Fort Belvoir Virginia for technical schooling after two weeks at home. He completed 11 weeks of basic training at Lackland AFB Texas. Private Merlin Schafer returned to Fort Knox Kentucky November 11 after a weekend at his mother’s home. Pvt. J William Bartlett left November 4 for basic training at Camp Carson Colorado for nine weeks. his wife Vonna Whitehead stays in Greene. Pvt. Roger I. Thomas recently graduated from Fort Leonard Wood Missouri field communications course. He entered the Army last July and is 19, a Greene High School graduate.

Jaycees Plan November Tree Sale for Civic Projects

Junior Chamber members will canvas on Thursday November 21 from 6 30 to 9 p m to take orders for Christmas trees. Proceeds fund civic betterment and youth activities. Home From Hospital Homer Hardman Returns

Homer Hardman returned home from the University hospitals in Iowa City on Saturday. He had been a patient there since September 19 and underwent major surgery the following week, though his condition has since improved and he is walking with assistance.
