The Adult Farmer meeting was postponed due to bad weather. The next gathering is set for Monday evening November 25 at 8:00 at Greene Community School with guest speaker Dr John B Herrick Iowa State College Ames on Beef Cattle Diseases. Dr J P Hoben and Dr William Andrews will join the panel discussion, and an oyster stew will be served afterward.
Mr. V. J. Tatum states that if Greene Community School must close due to impassable roads, the decision will be announced over radio station KCHA in Charles City at 1580 on the dial.
The Greene Community Parent Teachers Association met in the school auditorium for a November session. Pioneer Girls led by Esther Smith opened with a ceremony and songs, followed by piano solos by Pamela Drakle and Jane Witwer. Reports from Mrs Ipsen, Mrs Mead, and Rev Parks covered the Mason City state convention.
Miss Lucretia Story of Scott Foresman spoke at a Greene Community School reading clinic held last Thursday. Teachers across grades attended morning and afternoon sessions led by Myrna Litterer through sixth grade with assistants and staff serving coffee.
Walter Kyle was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City Friday noon for treatment of an infection following the flu.
Lillian Mae Lampman lifelong Wilmar resident died at her farm home after an extended illness. Born January 14 1915 near Wilmar she married Alfred Lampman August 25 1940. Survived by husband parents Conrad and Mrs Salge and brother Eugene. Funeral Friday 2:00 pm at St John s Lutheran Wilmar with Rev Robert Floy officiating burial Wilmar Cemetery. Williams Mortuary in charge.
The Union Thanksgiving Services will be held Wednesday evening November 27 at 8 oclock in the Church of the Brethren. Rev. G F Butler pastor of the First Presbyterian Church will speak. The public is cordially invited to attend.
New residents Mr and Mrs Lester C Johnson of Inglewood California are the parents of a daughter born on Saturday November 16 Mrs Johnson is the former Margaret Ann Bathke daughter of Mr and Mrs R A Bathke of Greene.
Butler County 4 H award night highlighted by master of ceremonies Darryl Wagoner and prayers by Rev Kay Millis. Seven girls won state awards across home economics leadership gardening and dress revue while many others earned purple books recognition and 100 percent expense account achievements. KGLO award trip winners to Chicago included Judith Stubbe JoAnn Murphy Sharon Murphy and others sponsored by local businesses and fairs groups.

Mr and Mrs Elmer Bruns of Worthington Minnesota announce the birth of a daughter on November 15 while he serves with the Navy aboard the U S Essex on the eastern coast. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs D C Marsh of Greene, the great grandparents.
The West Cedar River diversion into Big Marsh near Parkersburg has ended as engineers finish this phase of State Conservation Commission studies. A temporary plug and 11,000 ditch enabled intake, wells drilled for seepage analysis, and daily water level observations showed seepage rates. Findings may inform future Big Marsh recommendations. further studies may continue next season.
C P Witwer of Greene is in critical condition with third degree burns over about two thirds of his body after his Standard Oil truck overturned and burned near Clarksville while returning from a Waterloo meeting. He freed himself, was aided by local residents, and transported to Cedar Valley hospital and then St Marys Rochester. Blood donations are urged through Glenn Truex.
The Eighth Annual Masonic Institute for District No. 5 will be held November 20 at Osage Lodge No. 102 A L F A M. Election for Greene Community School District directors to take office July 1 1958 will be held November 26 in Town Hall Greene polls open noon to 7 p.m. Voters choose five directors from districts 1 2 3 4 6 and one district treasurer. Candidates include Elmer Bud Bramer Galen Shultz Will H Debner Harry Ott Francis Brinkman Bruce Andersen August Becker Walter Gabe John Pyatt and Verle Barta.
Naval Aviation Cadet John F. O'Brien, son of Mr and Mrs George A O'Brien of Greene, made his first solo flight on October 23 at Pensacola Florida. He attended Wartburg College before entering the Naval Aviation Cadet Program at Glenview Illinois and is undergoing training in Communications Navigation Engineering Athletics Aerology and civil air regulations during basic flight training.
Girl Scout officials announce no swimming at the Charles City YMCA pool tonight due to the junior class play and bad road conditions. The Girl Scouts will hold their regular meeting next Monday night and will announce when swimming will resume.
Airman Third Class Donn E. Tindall left November 12 for Fort Belvoir Virginia for technical schooling after two weeks at home. He completed 11 weeks of basic training at Lackland AFB Texas. Private Merlin Schafer returned to Fort Knox Kentucky November 11 after a weekend at his mother’s home. Pvt. J William Bartlett left November 4 for basic training at Camp Carson Colorado for nine weeks. his wife Vonna Whitehead stays in Greene. Pvt. Roger I. Thomas recently graduated from Fort Leonard Wood Missouri field communications course. He entered the Army last July and is 19, a Greene High School graduate.
Nine Greene high school students joined the statewide Prospective Teacher Day on November 13 at Iowa State Teachers and Luther Colleges campuses. The program, run by the Iowa Commission on Teacher Education and Professional Standards, aims to spark interest in teaching without serving as a recruitment drive.
Junior Chamber members will canvas on Thursday November 21 from 6 30 to 9 p m to take orders for Christmas trees. Proceeds fund civic betterment and youth activities. Other Jaycees programs include the Teen Roadeo at the high school the Easter egg hunt the doll safety program and the Voice of Democracy competition for seniors with tape judged at state and national levels.

Mrs Adalive L Kofold of Northfield Minnesota died November 13. Funeral services were held November 16 at Congregational Church in Northfield. Survived by daughter Elenn son Warren two granddaughters two great grandchildren brother Milton L Van Beesbick of St Paul born Greene and a schoolteacher before marriage.
Homer Hardman returned home from the University hospitals in Iowa City on Saturday. He had been a patient there since September 19 and underwent major surgery the following week, though his condition has since improved and he is walking with assistance.
