A morning blaze at the Kenneth Heft farm near Marble Rock destroyed a corn dryer and its contents. Marble Rock fire department fought the fire and prevented spread to other buildings. origin undetermined. A separate incident at about 7 AM damaged the Pringle Live stock Co office by smoke and water.
New residents Mr and Mrs Wendell Boggess of Charles City welcomed a son born Sunday November 16 at Cedar Valley hospital weighing 7 pounds 11 1/2 ounces. Mrs Boggess is Edna Constein of Greene. Also in Charles City Mr and Mrs Philip Jensen welcomed a son born Sunday November 10 at Cedar Valley hospital weighing 7 pounds 4 1/4 ounces. Mrs Jensen is Evelyn Howe. In Hampton Mr and Mrs Charles Baltes welcomed an 8 pound 3 ounce son born October 30 at Hampton Lutheran hospital. Mrs Baltes is Shelby Miller of Bristow. The baby has been named Mark Anthony.
Shirley Wildman daughter of Mr and Mrs Dale Wildman has been chosen to represent Upper Iowa University Fayette in the 1957 58 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges Selections are based on scholarship activities cooperativeness and future promise as a US citizen The honor is given to a small percent of outstanding students nationwide

Dr James H Wick head of operative dentistry at the University of Iowa was named a Fellow of the American College of Dentists at the American Dental Association meeting in Miami Florida The nomination cited his broad understanding of patient needs and community health alongside technical skill Wick son of H I Wick of Nashua and married to a Greene niece practiced in Rockford from 1919 to 1921 before moving to Iowa City He attended Loyola College of Dentistry event in New Orleans where he demonstrated an operation

Dr and Mrs H G MacLeod left Tuesday by plane for Phoenix Arizona to visit their son in law Dr and Mrs W H Barnett and Mark Barnett in Phoenix Arizona.
Mr and Mrs William Steere Sr of Greene celebrate 50 years of marriage with an open house for relatives and friends on Sunday November 17 from 2 to 5 PM and 7 to 9 PM at their farm home southwest of Greene. They wed November 19 1907 in Wilmar and have eleven children nine living William Jr Lea Leona Mrs Alvin Klunder Henry Sophia Lela Vera and Eugene of Greene plus 25 grandchildren.
Rev Clayton Becker, pastor of the Methodist Church, will leave Friday for Seymour to take part in preaching missions. He will be the guest pastor each evening and also on Sunday morning.
Jon Hagarty of Chicago was discharged from Cedar Valley Hospital Tuesday after surgery and is recuperating at his son Donald Hagarty’s home with family.
Funeral services for Lloyd Mettler son of Mr and Mrs Ed Mettler former Greene residents were held yesterday at Major Funeral Chapel in Mason City. He was a nephew of Mrs Mabel Springer. Attending included Mrs Springer and Jean Mr and Mrs Lyle Shook and Mrs Glenn Austin.
The Butler County 4-H Award Night plans were announced for November 16 at 8:00 p.m. in the Farm Bureau Auditorium Allison. The annual Quarterback Club Banquet honoring the 1957 Ramblers will be held Thursday evening November 14 in the high school auditorium. Banquet starts at 6 30. Tickets are on sale from local merchants and faculty. on banquet night too. Bob Zenner, KWWL TV Waterloo sports announcer, will be guest speaker.
The Greene Parent-Teachers Association holds its November meeting this evening at 8. The program includes an open house with classrooms open and instructional materials on display. Grade and high school teachers will be present to answer questions about the materials. All parents are urged to attend and refreshments will follow in the lunchroom.
M H Goode, 65, longtime county superintendent of schools at Waukon Iowa, died in Waukegan Illinois. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM in Jackson Minnesota, his birthplace. Survivors include his wife four sons and two daughters. Goode previously coached at Greene High School.
Charles Teeple of Greene filed a Floyd County District Court action against Eugene Nettleton of Greene seeking 38500.50 for damages from a June 7 two car collision two miles south of Roseville on Highway 14. The suit covers car repair medical expenses permanent injuries and nine weeks loss of earnings plus a jury trial demand.
The Church of the Brethren will host an observation school for church school teachers in Waterloo on Saturday November 16 from 9:00 am to 3:45 pm. Registration is 100 dollars with lunch arranged by the Waterloo church. Attendees should bring a textbook for their department and contact Rev. James Parks or Mrs. Leslie Smith. Charles Williams one of Greene's oldest citizens will celebrate his 98th birthday Sunday November 17 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Heath He has lived with the Healmes for over a year and, aside from total hearing loss, enjoys good health.
The Farmer-Labor Committee of the Third Congressional District announces a Farm-Labor turkey dinner in Charles City Iowa on November 14 at the Moose Lodge starting 7:00 pm with Congressman Merwin Coad as principal speaker. Other speakers include Corbin Crawford and Edris Owens. The meeting discusses the farmers economy and improvement methods. Farmers workers and the public are invited. tickets at the door.
J J Chukker a longtime Rock Island station agent at Worthington Minnesota is the eldest of five in a family where siblings and sons also work as railroad agents. He began his railroad career in West Bend Iowa over fifty years ago and spent decades in various stations before settling in Worthington.
Greene High School girls B and Varsity opened with Parkersburg wins. Varsity 39 Parkersburg 32 led by Marsh 16 and Lockwood 7 with Goodsell 7 Bartels 2. Parkersburg top scorers were Spain 16 and Stoppelmoor 13. B team Ann Barth 9 Bartels 8 Busse 6 Beller 6 uris 2. Next Tuesday the boys and girls host Tripoli with girls at 7.00.
Greene defeated Rockford 32 to 19 to finish 4-2 in conference play. The Ramblers, led by QB Bob Maxwell and standout defensive play from Barth, built a 20-6 halftime lead and held off a second half rally by Rockford with key interceptions and timely drives.

Mr and Mrs Arthur Peters and their daughters of Park Forest Illinois spent the weekend in the homes of George Peters Mr and Mrs Howard Raisty and with other relatives continuing family ties in the area.

Pioneer Girls Week runs November 10 through 17 highlighting the Pilgrim division for girls aged 8 to 11. The local Pilgrim group has twenty members with weekly meetings featuring crafts games songfest and Bible exploration alongside a leadership rank and badge program. Established in 1943 the organization reaches thousands weekly in the U S Canada Hawaii and several foreign countries with cooperation from twenty denominations.
