Ambulance fund drive ends in Greene County

The Greene Ambulance Service fund drive raised its $25,000 goal and an ambulance has been purchased to soon arrive. An open house will be scheduled later for community viewing. Contributions can be mailed to Steve Knight or left at H and R Coop. Greene Volunteer Ambulance Service officers and trained members are listed, with thanks to all supporters.

Seven Girls Receive First Class Rank At Court Of Awards

Greene Girl Scouts honored Jane Barth Ellen Nixt Robin Feldman Marilyn Schroeder Carol Wunsch Tammy Menken and Cathy Stephenson for First Class ranks at the Court of Awards held November 10 at the Community Center. Over 100 attendees heard brief skits songs and veterans letters from President Ford.

Two Public Auctions Scheduled This Saturday

Two auctions are set for Saturday November 20. The Claire Nettleton farm auction starts at 11 30 a m and the Creamery building property and miscellaneous sale begins at 1 p m.

National Honor Society Sells Light Bulbs for Scholarship

The Greene National Honor Society announces its annual fund raising drive selling packs of six light bulbs for two dollars and twenty five cents each. Proceeds go toward the NHS scholarship fund and support student opportunities in the community.

Rites held for Mrs Henry H Miller Nov 11 1976

Funeral services were held Thursday at Trinity Reformed Church Allison for Mrs. Henry H Miller who died November 8 1976 at Floyd County Hospital Charles City Iowa aged 86 years 6 months 20 days Rev Edward Jurgens officiated She was born April 18 1890 in Dumont and married Henry H Miller on June 20 1912 The couple raised five sons and five daughters Survivors include her husband four sons five daughters twenty five grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren with a sister Also listed are predeceased family members

Swine Flu Clinic Planned at Butler County Courthouse

In early November a free swine flu clinic will be held at the Butler County courthouse on Sunday November 21 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Monday November 22 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Eligible participants are adults aged 18 and over.

Greene ordinance creates Greene Volunteer Ambulance Service

The City of Greene Iowa adopts Ordinance 289 to establish The Greene Volunteer Ambulance Service as a city function with a five member Board of Trustees. The board, appointed by the mayor and approved by the council, serves staggered terms, sets standards, hires volunteers, and manages equipment funding, budgeting, and billing.

Woman's Club Bicentennial Quilt Winners Named

Lat Nov 13 the Woman's Club Fall Festival awarded two Bicentennial quilts. Julie Nordmeyer won the full size quilt and Mrs Mable Litterer won the club size quilt. Proceeds totaling 235 dollars go to the Ambulance Fund.

Greene city ordinance on compensation for service board and emergency unit

Sections specify no compensation for service board of trustees and emergency unit members, allowing reimbursement of actual expenses. Emergency unit members are city employees for ambulance duties under workers compensation and Iowa Tort Claims Act. Ordinance takes effect after passage and publication. adopted November 1, 1976. Arts and crafts show and sale coming Saturday

An arts and crafts show and sale will be held this Saturday November 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the room above the library. It features thirteen area artists including oil painters photographers potters and woodworkers. Public invited to view or buy with plans to expand next time if successful.

Winter sports section previews and cheerleaders feature

In this issue the winter sports section covers boys and girls basketball teams and wrestling squads with outlooks from the Corn Bowl Conference. Cheerleaders are highlighted. National Education Week highlights the Greene Education Association and school staff sponsoring the We Care message on page seven.
