Greene High School Band earns three All-State orchestral spots

Greene Community School band members Marcellyn Curtis Wendy Martzahn and Tim Kline were named to the All-State Orchestra at Humboldt tryouts with Wendell Stuntz as first alternate. Eleven Greene students tried out as preparations continue for a November 25 concert at KRNT Radio Theatre Des Moines.

Grain and Livestock Futures Market Meetings Planned

Gary Frahm Butler County Extension Director announces three meetings on November 15 December 13 and March 20 for those seeking futures market information. Two Greene Businesses Robbed Last Week

Vandals entered and robbed two Greene businesses in the past week with one theft repeated. Teeple Service Station lost 26 dollars Wednesday and Saturday after closing, through a rear window. Fezz's Lounge was entered early Sunday, items including whisky beer cigarettes and lighters were taken. Sheriff's Office investigates.

County Home Steward Charged With Embezzlement

Robert W. Eaton, 29, former steward at Butler County Home, arrested on embezzlement charges connected to selling two county owned steers. Steers sold Sept. 14 at Waverly Sales barn. money not turned in. Eaton arrested in Northampton, returned to Allison for preliminary hearing Nov. 13 before JP Dean Wiegmann, released on recognizance.

The Greene Commercial Club purchased and erected a lit sign along the new highway 14 bypass at Greene’s north edge. The sign was installed on Tuesday to promote the town.

The Greene Post Office and First State Bank will be closed all day on Saturday November ith. There will be no rural mail delivery or counter service at the Post Office. mail will be received, distributed and dispatched as on all other holidays.

Rev Wayne Gjerde Installed at Church of the Brethren

Reverend Wayne Gjerde was officially installed as pastor of the Church of the Brethren during Sunday morning worship on November 5. District field director Rev Lyle Albrecht led the installation. A potluck supper followed with 64 attendees and a social afternoon.

Young Ramblers Complete Perfect Season

The freshman and sophomore Ramblers defeated Rockford 21 to 6 on Monday evening October 30 marking a 4–0 season. Gary Johnson opened with a quarterback sneak for a touchdown, Todd Woodley caught the second TD from Jer ry Shultz, and a Johnson to Woodley pass made the final score. Tom Worley, Woodley, and Gary Debner added extra points.

4 H Awards Night Draws 300 in Butler County

About 300 people attended the Butler County 4-H Awards Night last Saturday in Allison. Trophies were awarded by the Butler County 4-H Trust Fund, with the Shell Rock Chore Boys receiving the top county achievement trophy. Incumbents Win Nelson Anderson Join City Council

In a city election 297 ballots were cast with all incumbents re-elected. Mayor William Ramker defeated Myron Eikenberry 252 to 39. Councilmembers Clarence Teeple David Markle and Douglas Walker won again, joined by Gordon Anderson Marvin Nelson who had the highest votes on the ballot.

Football Banquet Friday Night Honors Ramblers Crowd

Ellsworth Junior College head coach Larry Thompson will speak at a Friday evening banquet honoring the Greene High School Ramblers. Banquet at 6 30 in the elementary school auditorium. Thompson’s Ellsworth team, nationally ranked among junior colleges, earned a Silver Bowl berth against Garden City, Kansas, in Garden City on November 18. Thompson is a University of Northern Town graduate from Cedar Falls and has coached at Illinois Normal University and Iowa Falls in prior years.

Township Extension Elections To Be Held

Butler County residents in eight townships will elect representatives to the Extension Council over the next two weeks. Elections cover Madison, Butler Jackson, West Point, Beaver, Shell Rock, Dayton, Pittsford townships with meetings at various halls and homes. All qualified voters may attend and vote, with a short program preceding the ballot.
