Russell Poole 48 dies in corn picker accident near Greene
Russell Poole aged 48 was killed when his clothing fouled a corn picker he was operating on a farm north of Greene on Friday. Born October 12 1915 in Minneapolis he married Ina Chireman in 1949 and served 51 months in the Coast Artillery during WWII. Survived by wife parents and in laws, services held at St Peters Lutheran Church with graveside rites at Rose Hill Cemetery. Williams Mortuary directed arrangements.

Rev and Mrs Robert L Crosby will speak at Benne tte Wesleyan Methodist Church two miles east of Edale on Friday November 15 at 7 30 pm. The Crosbys first went to Colombia in 1942 and have served three terms there and have also been missionaries to Puerto Rico where they pioneered the Wesleyan work in 1952.

Jail Sentence for James L. Picken Pleads Guilty
James Leroy Picken, 46, of Cedar Falls appeared in Leonard Sherman?s Shell Rock court and pleaded guilty to two charges drawing while license was under suspension and failing to leave vehicle under control. Picken was sentenced to nine days in the County Jail.

The Butler County American Legion entertained Iowa Soldiers' Home residents in Marshalltown on Sunday November 10. At 1:30 pm Commander G. R. Truck Damaged In Mishap Thursday
Rodney Daniel Boom, 19, driver of a straight tandem truck owned by Boom Trucking and Grain Brokerage of Prairie du Chien Wisconsin, failed to make the turn into Greene on South 2nd Street last Thursday morning. The truck skidded into a telephone pole, turned over, damaging the load of feed and the truck. Boom suffered facial bruises and passenger Donald Delahous injured. Damage was about 1040 to the truck and box, 300 to the feed, 100 to the telephone line. Deputy Sheriff Marvin Barta charged Boom with loss of vehicle control and he paid 500 fine and 400 costs.

Cub Scout pack meeting was held at the elementary school on Wednesday November Fifteenth with twenty scouts attending at 7:30 pm. Two Charged With O M V I
Two men were arrested in Butler County last week by the sheriff's office and highway patrol for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Richard Olner Roberts, 39, of Des Moines, and Albert Taonore Hasis, 40, appeared in Dean Wiegmanns court with bond set at 500.00 to the west term of court. Both posted bond and were released from the county jail. Also appearing was Edwin Joan Hisenga, 48, of Allison, arrested Saturday by the sheriff's office on intoxication charges. Hisenga pleaded guilty and was sentenced to ten days in the county jail.
