The editor notes the Nashua Bulldogs possess a strong football team weathering rain. With many key players as seniors, the year could bring a conference title. Coach Dennis Mair gains relief to build for the future as the squad loosens up and risks taking chances.
The Greene Community Schools will close at 1 30 p m Thursday November 7 and remain closed Friday November 8 to free teachers for attendance at the State Convention of the Iowa State Education Association. Principal speaker Thursday night is Herbert A Philbrick. National Education Week runs November 11 15 and parents are invited to visit schools during the week.
Three basic rules aim to prevent corn picker accidents during the 1957 harvest. Shut off power before leaving the tractor seat. wear snug clothing and avoid double-thumb gloves. keep all guards in place on the power take-off shaft. Dennis Ott of the Greene FFA urges adherence to reduce incidents in Butler and Floyd counties.
A Veterans Day dinner will be held at the Veterans Club on Monday November 11 with serving to begin at 5 30. All veterans and their families are invited to attend whether members of local VFW and Legion posts or not. Music for dancing will follow the dinner.
George M. Ackley aged 75 died November 3 1957 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City from heart ailment. Born December 23 1881 in Marble Rock son of Gideon and Lucinda Ackley. Married Dora Thieman in 1904 they farmed near Marble Rock then moved to town 1929 and he drove a school bus thirteen years. Survived by wife Elroy of Charles City Lorraine of Denver. Funeral Thursday at 2:00 pm Hamiltons Funeral Chapel Greene Rev G F Butler officiating. Burial in West Side Cemetery Marble Rock.
Butler County 4-H enrollment nears an all-time high as leaders report 65 new girls and about 65 new boys likely for the coming club year. Girls clubs Washington Peppy Pals and Butler Bonnie Belles lead with eight new members each. boys clubs Washington Boosters and Monroe Successful Farmers report six and five new members respectively.
The 8th Annual Masonic Institute for District 5 will be held November 20 at Osage Lodge No. 102 A F and A M. Glenn Richards and M Kirk Sperry lead planning with Mayor Elgin Enaball and Rev Homer Doak presiding. Speakers include Donald Hughes Robert Bulmer Eugene Bliton J W Cavett and Leslie Whipple. The program covers Masonry in the Holy Land and the Rowley Memorial Home. The event aims to unite district lodges across several counties in Iowa.
Mr and Mrs Edward Rust of Waterloo welcomed a daughter at Cedar Valley hospital Charles City on Sunday November 3. Denise Ann weighs 7 pounds 11 ounces and is the child of Marlene Eliasen Greene. Harry Eliasen of Greene is her grandfather.
Farm Labor Committee of the Third Congressional District COPE urges union members and farmers to attend a November 14 meeting at the Mouse Lodge starting 7 PM. Speakers include Pat Greathouse senator William Proxmire and Oren Lee Staley, with a turkey dinner planned.

Paul Grendler son of Mr and Mrs August Grendler of Greene is elected vice chairman of the Newman Clubs at the Ohio State Convention of Newman Clubs held in Athens Ohio He will head Newman Clubs in northern Ohio and serves on the Province Executive Council governing Ohio Indiana West Virginia and Kentucky.

Marguerite and Hermine Bloom report the Girl Scouts collected 49.75 for UNICEF in a recent fundraiser. About 20 girls participated due to flu absences, replacing treats with donations and later gathering at City Hall for hamburgers and a ceremony initiating new Scouts.
Darrow Gates, 60, died suddenly at 9:00 a.m. November 3 at his Marble Rock home. Born August 25, 1897 near Greene, he was a son of Henry and Emma Gates. Survived by his wife Ellen and a son Donald Belaine Gates, plus three brothers, a sister, and a half brother. Funeral Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Hamilton's Funeral in Marble Rock with Rev. John Falconer officiating. burial in Cemetery.
The Boy Scouts of America will hold a District Court of Honor at the Lutheran Church in Greene on Monday evening November 18 at 7 44 pm. Awards from Webelo through Eagle will be presented to those earning advancement during the past year. Robert Saultz, son of Mrs. Ruth Shultz, will receive the Eagle Award. All parents and friends are invited to attend.
Walter Behnke learned of his brother in law Roy McFall's death at his San Bernardino home on Sunday morning. A former Greene resident, he is survived by his wife Augusta Behnke, a daughter and a grandson. Funeral services were held in San Bernardino Tuesday.

Sgt Merle D Rindels of Bristow Iowa son of Mr and Mrs Richard Rindels served with Battery A Fort Lawton and played on the 20th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion softball team that won the Army Air Defense Command tournament at Fort Baker California He entered the Army in December 1950 and is a 1945 graduate of Bristow High School

Cecil Starkweather won a third term as mayor and six council members were elected as no opponents appeared on the ballot. Starkweather and Barnett each led mayoral votes with 34, Beloit and Knapp 58, Brinkman 60, Morey 57. write ins and two spoiled ballots counted. Morey starts first term replacing Jim Mead. Terms run Jan 1, 1958 to Jan 1, 1960.
The Women’s Missionary Society of Calvary Baptist Church will miss its regular meeting to attend a Fall Rally at First Baptist Church in Shell Rock on Wednesday November 13. Registration at 10:00 A.M. with sessions through 3:00 P.M. Marble Rock Horton Waverly and New Hartford churches join. No registration or luncheon fee. Eighty six voters in Marble Rock elected John Jesmore as mayor and Arn old Staudt Vern Arthur Roger Ackley Don Krambeer and Wel don Staudt as councilmen. Alfred Grahlman won the treasurer post.
Mrs. Fredricka Margaret Meugler Meyer died at Copely Hospital in Aurora Illinois after a long illness. Born September 10 1875 in Madison Wisconsin she lived in Sheboygan and Chicago before moving to Aurora. Survived by three daughters a son seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Burial was at Irving Park Cemetery Chicago.
The Iowa Conservation Commission forecasts a good season with many birds. Open weekend starts Saturday November 9 at noon. Officials report an overall 1957 production slightly ahead of 1956, with more hens brooding but smaller broods, and roadside counts showing population similar to 1966. Drought hits western counties reducing brood stock, making hunting tougher locally. Hunters urged to seek farmer permission and use dogs, mark downed birds, and hunt safely as page 8 continues with rules.
