Greene residents are urged to back local officials to uphold the law amid rising hooliganism in cities and towns. The piece notes past calm but calls for action and support as Rambler travel to Nashua Friday night for a bid in the Corn Bowl Conference title.
The junior high and freshman football teams closed their seasons with 4 0 records. On Oct 23 the freshman and sophomores beat St Ansgar 20 to 6, Dennis Ratcher, Doug Litterer, and Jerry Shultz scored. The next night the junior high beat Marble Rock 32 to 18, and the ninth graders beat Rudd Marble Rock 20 to 0 with Greene, Shultz, Eimers, and Johnson scoring.
Dr. Bruce V. Andersen attended a two day Iowa Chapter American Academy of General Practice meeting at the Savery Hotel in Des Moines. Business session elected Dr. Lee Rosebrook of Ames as president, noting the requirement for continued graduate study for membership.
Maynard Bochmann, son of Mr and Mrs Henry Bochmann, has returned from Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo after surgery for a fractured and crushed heel from a fall of about eighteen feet from a silo to concrete.
The annual Butler County 4-H Awards Night will be Saturday, November 4, at the Farm Bureau Auditorium in Allison starting at 8:00 p.m. Trophies will honor the outstanding 4-H boy and girl and the Chicago Award Trip for overall 4-H achievements. A Meritorious Service award will go to a 4-H reader, with county medal awards and outstanding clubs also announced. The event is planned and conducted by county 4-H officers.
Secretary Orville L Freeman outlines the 1968 Feed Grain Program allowing farmers to divert up to half of their feed grain base acres to conservation uses. The plan aims to divert at least 30 million acres, with diversion payments on 20 to 50 percent and full base diversion allowed for small farms.

Russell J. Perry, Allison volunteer county savings bonds chairman, announced Butler County September sales of Series E and H bonds and Freedom Shares totaled 30,764, contributing to a nine monthly total of 428,665 and 55 percent of the 1967 quota. Iowa sales for September reached 6,727,823 with a nine month total of 76,327,193 at 63 percent of the 1967 goal.

The State Conservation Commission begins accepting tree orders for seedlings and wildlife shrubs earlier than previous years. Landowners outside urban areas may order for erosion control reforestation or wildlife habitat. Orders using state blanks. Shipments to landowners in spring 1968.
The Greene Woman's Club hosts its annual fall harvest fair on Saturday November 4 from 9:00 a m to 4:00 p m at the Albrecht Hatchery. The theme is Western Style with a Handicraft bazaar. Lunches and a bake sale will be available. Everyone is invited.
NIACC tops small Iowa colleges in freshman enrollment, trailing only the state universities and Drake, per the Iowa College Presidents Association. A revised NIACC total shows 1799 students, with 728 from Cerro Gordo and smaller counts from Floyd Worth Hancock Mitchell Winnebago Franklin Wright Buller and Kossuth counties.

Donald Gabe, a freshman, is enrolled in the electronics technology program at North Iowa Area Community College. He will complete two academic years of training to gain direct employment-ready skills and a liberal background for advancement, potentially becoming an operations technician, plant maintainer, automatic test technician, laboratory technician, equipment installer, or sales and service representative, and will earn an Associate in Applied Science degree on completion.
Earle Everett Rague 56 died suddenly of a heart attack at his Greene home on Tuesday October 24. He was born in 1910 in Greene, married Bertha Miller, and worked 19 years for Oliver Corporation in Charles City. Survivors include wife, three sons Roger, Donald, Eugene, daughter Eloise O’Brien, ten grandchildren, three sisters. The Nichara Williams of Allison and John A Johnson of Parkersburg will be honored at a 7:00 p.m. dinner in the R E C Building Allison on Tuesday November 14. The Williams farm and Johnson farm are regional winners in the Soil Conservation Achievement contest. Other honorees include Winnebago County landlords and tenant award winners and a Worth County conservation teacher. State Conservationist Wilson T Moon will speak. James McGuire will present awards. Tickets available at the Soil Conservation District Office or district commissioners.
Herman Faber, Republican County Chairman for Butler County, announced October 27 that the annual G O P Fund Raising dinner will be held at the Farm Bureau Auditorium in Allison at 6 45 P M Wednesday, Novem ber 15. The speaker will be James B Goetz, Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota. Tickets are $5.00 and on sale through local precinct and vice chairs with listings in Greene, Warren, Allison, Clarksville, Bristow.
A dedication service will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church at 10:15 a.m. Sunday November 5. The program includes new church pews a memorial book a stand and a new public address system.

A meeting of Butler County and surrounding area chemical dealers will be held at the Holiday Inn in Cedar Falls on November 7. Gary Frahm says the event covers 1967 insecticide and herbicide results and 1968 recommendations with speakers Harold Gunderson and E. P. Sylvester. Gunderson discusses corn insect control, Sylvester weed and disease control in corn and soybeans. About $10 million was spent on corn insecticides and a similar amount on weed control. Dinner at 6:30 p.m. tickets must be picked up at the Extension office by November 3.

Farm implement dealers in the Greene area are urged to help provide machines for repair in the Agricultural and Light Industrial Equipment Technology laboratory at North Iowa Area Community College. Roger Holcomb, coordinator, says student work on such equipment serves both dealer and college. Since 1966, equipment set up or repaired has come from dealers who deliver machines and furnish parts, while students provide the labor under supervision. Enrollment is rising with 11 sophomores and 40 freshmen. the course runs two academic years with an eight week on the job period between them.
Greene Fire Department was called to the Dennis Ott farm southwest of Greene on Thursday at 3:45 p.m. to extinguish a grass fire creeping toward a corn field. The blaze was put out before any damage occurred.

Ramblers dropped a 20 to 7 decision to Rockford and will face the Bulldogs in Nashua on Friday. In local news, Mr and Mrs Larry Peters of Greene announce the birth of daughter Elizabeth Jayne on Wednesday October 25 at Floyd County Memorial Hospital weighing 8 pounds 9 1/4 ounces. Elder sibling Marty and Deanna welcome the baby. grandparents are John Peters of Charles City and Harold Foster of Fredericksburg.
Visiting Rockford defeated Greene 20 to 9 to hand the Ramblers their first conference loss. Greene led early but Rockford rallied with Clifton scoring twice and Dolan adding a late scoring drive, while Siemens was ejected for kicking. Nashua, Rockford and Greene sit at four wins one loss, with Friday’s games deciding the title.
Peoples Gas division of Northern Natural Gas filed with the Iowa Commerce Commission on October 3 1967 a plan to refund 22000 to Iowa gas customers. Refunds will be issued as December checks to customers served by Northern Natural Gas from the pipeline, excluding those in areas with initial service in 1967.
