The Greene community showed strong Ramblers support at Nothan last Friday as Rich Siemens and former Ramblers stirred the crowd. Drivers passing stopped Greene School buses on highway 14 threaten student safety. authorities stress positive ID to prosecute and urge motorists to be vigilant near school buses.
The first all conference Vocal Honors Chorus will be at Rockford High School auditorium on Friday November 7. Rehearsal of the Festival Chorus starts 1:00 p.m. with the Festival Concert at 7:30 p.m. at Rockford Auditorium. 84 singers from conference schools participate. no charge for the concert.
Mr and Mrs Ernest Gebhardt of Waterloo announce the birth of their son Matthew Glenn on Monday morning November 3 at Scholtz Memorial Hospital. He weighed 8 pounds 10 54 ounces and arrived on his sister Pamela Marie’s first birthday. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Glenn Lindell and Mr and Mrs Emil Gebhardt of Cedar Falls. Great grandmother is Mrs Co L Funk of Waterloo.
The Butler County CROP drive kickoff will be Monday evening at the Lutheran Church in Allison at 7:00 p.m. CROP Sunday is November 16 and the drive runs November 17 through 30. All supervisors and workers are urged to attend.
Supt Grumley notes partial use of four rooms at the elementary and bus garage for the new high school addition. Remaining spaces include the industrial arts classroom art room cafetorium kitchen gym and music rooms with a mid February completion target. He cautions the forecast is a guess not a promise.
A junior high party is planned for Saturday November 8 from 7 30 to 10 p m in the high school cafeteria. Chaperones listed are Mrs Clyde Stuntz Mrs Georgine Austin Mr Harlan Helm and Mr Jerry Elmers.
Ramker and four incumbents were re elected in Greene's largest city vote. Charles Stanton won the fifth council seat as 467 registered voters cast ballots with 5 spoiled, 462 valid. Mayor Francis Knapp received one write in. Marble Rock and Bristow precincts also reported mayoral and council results with multiple named candidates and vote totals.
The Christmas Seal campaign began in Greene on November 1. Mrs. Kathryn Duffield, chair for Greene, announced stamps have been mailed and those needing more or not receiving stamps should contact her.
A Social Security Administration representative will visit the Sheriff's Building in Allison, Iowa on November 19 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. to assist the public. The Waterloo SSA office operates weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 525 W. 5th Street, phone 234-1554.
Doc and Zoe Anderson devised an unusual Halloween snack plan replacing candy with hot dogs and fixings. Three goblins arrived appetite sated and the family reported a busy rewarding evening as the treats were shared. The reporters tested the results and rated the products A-1.
Butler County Extension Service outlines election dates for township representatives across eight townships with meeting times and locations. Eligible voters may attend and cast ballots. council members oversee Extension programs in agriculture home economics and youth work tied to Iowa State University services.
The deadline for regular NROTC qualifying exam applications is November 14. Applicants will take the nationwide competitive examination on December 13, the sole test date. Information and Navy College Aptitude Test applications are available at high schools or nearest Navy Recruiting Station.
Junior Girl Scout Troop 278 calls for used but usable toys and games to collect through November. Wagons bicycles toy tractors tricycles and dolls needing minor repairs will be accepted and sent to Mr John Emerson in Charles City for repair and distribution to local children. Toys may be left at the Candle Shop during November.
Minnie Heinz will observe her 85th birthday on November 9 at the Mathers Nursing Home. Leo Harvey turns 65 on November 18 and is also a resident at the same facility.
Postmaster Robert L. Curtis announces the Greene Iowa Post Office will be closed all day on Veterans Day November 11 with no counter service or rural delivery. Mail handling will occur as on other holidays.
Mrs Minnie Reinking, long housed with her sister Mrs Sophie Smoot in Allison, was moved Friday from the nursing home to Mathers Rest Home.
Ramblers shut out Nashua 22 to 0 on Friday to claim a share of the conference title and retain the Little Brown Jug. Greene starred with high yardage in rushing and passing as Joanson Stuntz and Debner produced solid ground gains. Debner Ross Marzen Schuknecht Schaffer Osier made key tackles while Stuntz and Shultz each intercepted Nashua passes.
The 1969-70 Senior Conference of the Senior Girl Scouts gathered in Greene on November 1 and 2 with 165 girls from the North Iowa Council.Edward Neubauer spoke on understanding self and society to enable communication, followed by a banquet and regional recognitions. Cindy Fangman and Kath Johnson reported on a Seattle convention and the Action 79 plan to reduce racial barriers and prejudice.
North Town Girl Scout Council starts its November finance drive chaired by Gordon Schafer to fund camping, events, film and library access, training, and supervision for more than 5,100 girls across 12 counties. Greene contributes about 120 girls. The council operates two camps Camp Christie in Charles City and Camp Gaywood in Clear Lake with 22 day camps and 1,000-plus volunteers.
Lois Pringle fell at her home last Thursday and fractured a vertebra. She is at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City and is expected to stay about a week to ten days for treatment and recovery.
Greene Rambler football picks honorary captains Gary Debner Gary Johnson and Tom Rutz. Debner earned team MVP as Greene and Nashua battle with tackles, interceptions and long runs including a 47 yard dash by Stuntz. The opener ends with strong Ramblers drive and a late two point plunge by Shultz.
