Final plans for Pan cake Day at B and W Market in Greene detail Aunt Jemima arrival at 8:00 a.m. and serving from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Bill Walker, local manager, says a portable kitchen is ready and crowds are expected for the demonstration by one of America's best loved characters.
Charles Nichol of Greene will represent Wartburg College in the 1959 60 Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Twenty Wartburg students were selected by the elections committee and student vote. eligibility requires a 2.5 GPA or higher. Nichol, a physical education major, is the son of Leonard and Mary Nichol of Greene.
A meeting at Town City Hall on November 18 at 7:00 p.m. will organize a county wide stamp collectors club. Officers will be elected and future meetings planned. a Waterloo philatelist dealer will attend. Lunch follows. Open to interested collectors over age 10.
Galen Rusell Gates born October 2 1892 in Greene died November 4 1959 at Grand Canyon Arizona aged 67. He married Adah Hesalroud June 1917 in Greene. Son Claire Eunene died in service August 1944. Survivors include wife two siblings and two nieces. Funeral Monday at Hamilton's Greene with burial in Hillside Cemetery Marble Rock.
Army PFC Paul L. Wygle, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur L. Wyele of Greene, recently participated with the 59th Transportation Company in a large scale command post exercise in Wertheim, Germany. Arrived overseas in July 1958, he is a helicopter mechanic in Wertheim. A 1956 Greene High School graduate, he was farming before joining the Army in February 1957.

Mervin Barth 37 died at 4:30 am Friday at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City. Born February 22, 1920 son of Harry and (Mrs) Barth Greene. Entered service February 23, 1942. Lifelong Disabled American Veterans member. Survived by parents a brother Darrell and sister Mrs Lyle O'Brien. Funeral Sunday 2:00 pm Presbyterian Church with Rev G F Butler officiating. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites. Williams Mortuary in charge.
Keith Olson manager of the Northeast Iowa Swine Testing Station in New Hampton spoke to the Adult Farmer Class last Monday evening. The group asked ten questions guiding his presentation on testing costs boar value disease control records and hog testing. Twenty two members attended and wives served oyster stew. Next Monday November 15 the class will discuss new hay making equipment.
Bud Suter of Iowa City selected to speak at the annual Quarterback Club banquet next Wednesday evening November 18. Dinner serves at 6:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. Suter formerly coached in Mason City high school and was a KGLO radio announcer before joining the University of Iowa Public Relations Department about four years ago. Quarterback Club members Herman Stubbe Dale Schroeder Horon Bellows Jim Drakle and Mead Drug are selling supper tickets. attendees should contact them by Monday afternoon.
Ambrose Stanton was admitted to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City for treatment on Saturday. He is listed as a patient under care at the hospital’s medical unit and is receiving standard treatment procedures. Further updates on his condition and prognosis are expected from Cedar Valley Hospital officials.
New Greene welcomes Mr and Mrs Russell Dean Moyer to South Second Street Grinnell natives with seven years meat cutting experience. He replaces Russell Goodsell who moved to Hampton to work at B W Store. The Moyers married July 5 1954 and have daughter Shary Lynn born August 31 1957.
The General Aid and Supplemental Aid warrants have been issued for Butler County districts. Allison-Bristow Community School District gets 14339.58 in General Aid. Clarksville District receives 12690.64 in General Aid and 6275.61 in Supplemental Aid. Greene District earns 20525.80 in General Aid. Butler County Schools total 118520.56 in General Aid and 16.01 Supplemental Aid.
The Junior class presents It Was a Teen-Age Dracula Friday at 3:00 PM in the high school auditorium. The comedy mixes humor and mystery as Marlene and friends navigate sleepwalking, ghosts, and a climax where superstition clashes with a villain's schemes.
Greene Ramblers and Ackley played to a 6 to 6 tie on the Raiders field in driving rain. Dick Ridout scored for Greene late in the first half, Grendler added the late touchdown after a series with Gabe Taylor on the receiving end, while Gabe and Grendler led Greene's offense and Mike Mead anchored the defense.
Farm census takers for the local area begin an intensive training course on November 11 in Allison City Hall under Crew Leader John M. Lang. The program covers the Census questionnaire, definitions, interviewing, and map reading as precursors to canvassing starting November 16. Participants include Margaret Needham Bennedette township Robert Fischer Coldwater and Mildred Young Dayton.
November 14 marks the 34th pheasant season in Iowa with 92 counties open and a 23 day season. The state notes a rebound from northeast declines, a harvest record last year, and hopes similar numbers this year if weather helps farmers finish corn and hunters and birds meet. Be a guest, not a pest.

Richard Lovejoy Nieman, 22, of Snell Rock, arrested in Allison on November 8 for vehicle without owner's consent after driving into a ditch near Clarksville. He later stole James Hickle's car, abandoned it near his home, and is jailed on $200 bond. Also reported: Kesley Elevator break-in for $12, porch. milk truck collision near Greene with a Studebaker, $350.09 truck damage. two-vehicle collision near Allison with minor injuries. New Launderama break-in for $100 in change. Parkersburg man Paul Nicklaus jailed for a $20 check charge. Gerald William Curtis fined $300 for furnishing beer to a minor.
New residents Mr and Mrs William Nordmeyer announce the birth of a daughter at Odar Valley Hospital on November 3. She weighs 4 ounces? The mother also mentions a nephew of Amia Hag. Dennis Ray is born to Mrs Marvin Moser at University Hospital on November 8 weighing 3S pounds. Dr and Mrs D T Drees welcome a daughter at Cedar Valley Hospital on November 6 weighing 7 pounds 3 ounces named Elizabeth Ann.
The death of Mrs. M L Barnett of Boulder Colorado was sudden and mourned by relatives. Formerly Pearl Boggs she was daughter of Albert and [unreadable] Boggs pioneers of Butler County. Survived by husband three daughters Verne Stewart and George Crowley of Boulder and John Palmer of Saguache and sister Choice Sproul of Eagle Rock California. The Barnetts celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last summer. Funeral services were held in Boulder with burial there.
Norman Wolters underwent surgery at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on Friday. The brief notice confirms the procedure took place and the patient is associated with the Cedar Valley facility.
A campaign will begin next Wednesday and Thursday at Greene Community Schools to recruit 30 to 40 new students for a Beginners Band. Director Ray Holtz says the aim is to form another fine group this year. aptitude tests will identify suitable candidates before invited instrument viewing days.
