The Agriculture Department released its price policy for the sale of Commodity Credit Corporation soybeans to be sold through May 31, 1961 at market price or no less than 105 percent of the 1960 county support price plus carrying charges. Charges include a receiving fee and a monthly storage and interest charge, starting October 1, 1960, with the No. 2 soybean county storage rate used to set minimum price. CCC soybean stocks were down markedly by mid-September, with uncommitted holdings about 9.6 million bushels, far below last year.

Mrs. Florence M. Pond of Greene died October 28 in Charles City at age 71 born December 12 1888 in West Union Iowa married Earl S. Pond December 14 1910 had son Stanley The family moved to Greene in 1920 where Mr Pond ran a harness business He died in 1954 She is survived by son Stanley and sister Mrs N J Schueler Funeral services were held Monday at Williams Mortuary with Rev G F Butler officiating Burial at Rose Hill Cemetery Williams Mortuary in charge

Plans are in progress for the Annual 4-H Awards Night to be held on Saturday, November 12, in the Farm Bureau Auditorium at Allison. The presentation of awards to Butler County 4-H'ers will climax the 1959-60 year. Butler County 4-H Officers meet Saturday, November 5, to prepare, aided by County Boys and Girls Committee members.
Mr and Mrs Paul Dickhoff of Oskaloosa former Greene residents welcomed identical triplet daughters on October 27. The infants lived 12 hours, 24 hours and 30 hours. Named Jean Elizabeth Joyce Elaine and Jane Eleanor. Committal services were held October 29 at 2 PM in Oskaloosa. Survivors include the parents one sister Lois two brothers Paul Jr and Robert maternal grandparents Clarence and Mrs Wilson of Floyd and Mrs Joe Fraschi Greene. The family resides at 307 C Avenue East Oskaloosa Iowa.
Voters head to the polls next Tuesday November 8 to decide national state and local offices. Key races include US Senate Iowa Governor and a tight 8th District Congress contest Edward J Gallagher Jr dueling H R Gross for the seat and a three way county treasurer race H Herschel Opperman Peter Nicklaus and William Schneiderman. A Greene fire station ballot asks whether to fund a new firehouse with costs not to exceed ten thousand dollars. Sample ballots will appear publicly to help voters verify candidates.

Voters in the Rudd Rockford Marble Rock Community School district will vote November 30 on a $750000 bond for a new high school in Rockford. This is the third attempt after defeats on August 12 and October 6. A 60 percent yes vote is required to pass.

Greene Ramblers defeated the Nashua Bulldogs 14 to 7 to claim the Corn Bowl title and the Little Brown Jug. Key drives featured Wunsch, Taylor, and Marsh while Seales and Clark fought the Ramblers’ defense. Late Nashua rally stalled by Rambler coverage and down marker confusion.

In nine counties the Winnebago Council runs some 36 Friends of Scouting campaigns conducted by 600 workers to extend Scouting services and locate new areas for service.
Robert Brown a 16 year old from Dougherty was arrested by marshals in Greene Wednesday afternoon on reckless driving stop sign violation and no operators license He pleaded guilty at Raight s Court and was fined 115 plus costs held in Butler County Jail in Allison Wednesday night fines paid Thursday morning and released
About 80 to 90 people attended the P T A meeting last Wednesday evening in October. J Kendal Lynes from Plainfield spoke as an Iowa Senate representative, Charles Grassley from New Hartford a Republican in the House, and Vern Garner from Shell Rock a Democrat in the House. All spoke on School Finance. Miss Landsgaard directed entertainment with Girls Glee Club singing Watch and Pray The Lord is My Shepherd America The Beautiful. Girls Trio sang Climbing Up To The Mountain Children and the girls quartet sang Kentucky Babe My Wild Irish Rose.
Three Greene students attended All-State Orchestra tryouts in Mason City on Saturday October 22. Sara Green was selected for the All-State Orchestra after playing before instructors. she is a bass violin player in Greene High School bands and will perform in Des Moines during Thanksgiving break.
Clyde Jones born at Greene November 29 1904 son of Ed and Flora Jones died October 24 at Galen Montana after lingering illness. Survived by daughter Mrs Frank Loomer and brother Paul of Miami plus three grandchildren. Funeral at Williams Mortuary 1 30 Saturday with Rev I J Devies officiating burial at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mrs J L Simonsen of Hampton named one of the Rural Teachers of the Year by Wallaces Farmer for distinguished service in education and community leadership. Nominee taught 25 years, 17 in Chapin Consolidated School, currently teaching in Dumont. The award honors teachers in towns under 2,500 population.
Mr and Mrs Ray Holtz welcomed a daughter born Saturday morning October 29 at 2 30 weighing 5 pounds 10 ounces. The newborn has been named Patricia Ann and joins the family as a new arrival in the community.
Larry Williamson, son of Mrs Leora Williamson of Greene, completed nine weeks of recruit training at the Naval Training Center in Great Lakes Illinois. He was evacuated from training on October 22 as the nine week program ended with a full dress parade and review before military officials and civilian dignitaries.
