Robert Siemons Returns Home From Hospital

Robert Siemons nine year old twin son of Mr and Mrs Henry Siemons came home Wednesday evening from Mercy hospital Mason City. He spent nine days in care after an injury to his left eye from a rack thrown by a power lawn mower. He underwent surgery on May 21. The final extent of his eye damage is not yet known.

Greene man found guilty of operating a vehicle while intoxicated

Paul Wyegle age 23 of Greene was found guilty by a District Court jury on May 24 on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was arrested two miles south of Greene by the Highway Patrol in the early morning of March 5 1961 and has not been sentenced yet.

Merchants Sponsor Free Outdoor Movies in Greene

Thomas Girls Arrived Home From Alaska Mission

Dorothy and Marjorie Thomas, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Thomas, return from a year furlough from the Alaska Christian Home in Homer. They have served three and a half years aiding the homeless. They will show slides on Sunday evening June 4 with pictures of the home, the children, and Alaskan scenery. the public is invited.

Rites Held for Percy Lucas 67

Percy Leonard Lucas 67 died Thursday noon at Lutheran Hospital Hampton after long illness. A WWI veteran and longtime farmer, he lived in Greene and farmed until 1944. Survived by wife Itelen Stine two daughters five grandchildren and several siblings. Funeral at local Methodist Church with military graveside rites at Rose Hill cemetery.

Local Worker Recovers From Severe Rib Injuries

AIT DONUeW returned home Sunday after treatment at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City for three broken ribs and one cracked rib. He sustained the injuries Tuesday May 23rd when he fell on a truck box at Albrecht Feed Mill.

Senior Awards Presented at Greene Community School

Senior day exercises at Greene Community School included band selections and announcements by Carol Crosby. Scholarships honored seniors from Luther College and others, with recipients such as Carey Crosby, Larry Gabe, Donna Reed, and Dennis Wunsch, alongside awards from Iowa State Teachers College and Mount St. Clare. Dennis Wunsch Wins Class A State 220 Title at Ames

Dennis Wunsch captures the Class A state championship in the 220 yard dash at the Ames track meet despite a 20 mph head wind and soft track. Larry Blum places fifth in the broad jump, while the 880 yard relay crew Steere Kingery Rottler Wunsch clocks a top time but finishes sixth. Clarion wins with 34 points led by John Plecher who takes three wins and a second in the broad jump.

Rites Held for Maude Landis 88 Former Washington official

Maude Landis 88 died May 23 in Cedar Valley hospital from flu complications. Born March 18, 1873 in Greene she studied at Iowa State Teachers College Cedar Falls and University of Iowa. She served in Washington DC government work 1918 1953 and lived in Waterloo before moving to Clarksville. Funeral Friday at Hamilton's Greene chapel with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

City Golf Tourney To Begin In June

The Men's 1961 City Golf Tournament starts soon at Round Grove Golf and Country Club. Players must post their 18 hole qualifying round at the Club House by June 18. The champion will be sent to the Tournament of Champions at Atlantic City on August 18 to 20.

Gaasa ere James R. Sandy a Nera Springs High School and Drake University alum takes the helm of Greene Community High School as Head Football and Track Coach. Car Bus Collision in Greene County on Monday

Greene Community School bus No. 12 driven by Herman Mason was struck on the side by Ira Marsh as Mason delivered students to the Elementary School. Marsh attempted to pass as the bus signaled a left turn near Brethren Church. Both vehicles were moving about five miles per hour and were inspected by Deputy Sheriff Marvin Barth.

Mr and Mrs Garth Butler returned home from Cedarville Ohio after John Butler participated in Cedarville College graduation exercises. John was a member of the graduating class and his sister Doris Butler of Eugene Oregon also attended and stayed with her parents for a short Greene County vacation.
