Editor Seeks Four Team Peace League This Summer

Gerald Eimers plans a four team peace league this summer with T shirt uniforms. Anyone can sponsor or help a team by contacting Gerald or the Recorder office. All boys may play and the best will join a traveling team to play other towns. The notice urges summer activities and cautions about boating near the dam in Greene with enforcement of navigation laws.

Five Greene baseball batters hit over .300 in season

Greene High School went 9-3 as five players surpassed .300 led by Jim Maxwell at .357 and Joe Allison at .351. Barth hit .326 with 17 hits, Newton slugged four homers while Allison stole 17 bases. Jerry Newton led pitchers with 6-1, Wharton 3-1, Marsh 0-1. The team’s only regular season loss was to Allison by one run, with further defeats to Kenowa in substate and Charles City in postseason.

Greene man sues for 6500 over Cerro Gordo crash

Eugene Rague of Greene filed a 6500 injury suit in Cerro Gordo County district court against Raymond Joose of Mason City Rural Route 2. Rague alleges Joose’s negligence caused a February 3 collision that injured him while riding in a car driven by Dean Keifer of Greene. The accident near Mason City on Highway 18 involved four vehicles with east and westbound cars. Rague seeks damages for injuries permanent facial scars and lost work time.

Greene Junior Chamber Conducts Car Safety Check

One hundred fifty six autos and 12 trucks were checked by the Greene Junior Chamber of Commerce and city marshals at a Car Safety Check last Friday and Saturday. Thirty vehicles were rejected, 18 cars and 1 truck corrected and rechecked. Issues included brakes on 2, front lights on 11, rear lights on 15, tires on 1, exhaust on 2, windshield wipers on 1, and horn on 1. One truck had a faulty front light and 3 trucks needed rear lights attention.

ASC To Start Check Of Compliance In Butler County

ASC to begin farm compliance checks across Butler County townships to verify acreage under soil bank and allotment agreements. Inspectors will measure wheat fields and corn acreage to determine eligibility for price supports and reserve payments, with a target completion by June 30 depending on weather.

Five Buildings Destroyed By Fire On Shepardson Farm

A fire at the Shepardson farm seven miles east of Marble Rock destroyed a large barn a cattle shed a well house a machine shed and a hen house. The Wallace Ritter family occupies the farm. The hog house roof was burned and part of a double corn crib scorched. Cause is unknown.

Forage and Hay Field Day to be Held June 26

Butler County hosts a Forage and Hay Field Day on June 26 at the Bob Feltus farm north of Allison. Extension Director Ivan Wikner announced the event and noted hay baling will be a highlight. Scout Leaders Plan Winnebago Jamboree Trip to Valley Forge

Greene Indies Open With Loss To Shell Rock

The Greene Independent baseball team fell 4-1 to Shell Rock in the Butler County League opener. Timyon pitched well for Shell Rock with nine strikeouts, while Mair took the loss for Greene after allowing nine hits. Greene’s lone run came on Wair’s first inning triple scoring Eimers, with Ulrich and Koepke adding two more in the fifth. The Independents schedule an evening practice at 6:00 p.m. and host Allison at 2:19 p.m. next Sunday.

Wilbur Wiegman Killed in Greene Car Crash

A two car collision near Greene left Wilbur C. Wiegman 40 dead and his wife plus three sons injured. Henry Dralle Sr of Bristow drove the other vehicle and was treated and released. The family was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City with the children not seriously hurt. A Social Security outreach visit is planned in Allison June 19 from 10:00 to 12:00.

Engineer Says New Court House to Have Latest Features

Butler County engineer O. W. Zack says the proposed court house will feature the latest architectural innovations to improve efficiency while cutting costs. The plan includes main counters opening to hallways and office placement to minimize foot traffic, with dual purpose rooms to reduce floor space. Red Cross Swimming Classes Begin Soon

The Red Cross will start swimming classes at Perrin Park in June, continuing through August 2. Enrollees must be at 8:00 PM to board buses to Charles City Municipal Pool, bring parental permission and 35 cent first day fee, and have a certificate to classify age groups from beginner to senior life saving.

Belva Tindall Named Miss Greene at Band Festival

Belva Dee Tindall daughter of Mr and Mrs Wilbur E Tindall was chosen by Greene High School band as Miss Greene for the North Town Band Festival on June 11. A 1957 graduate, she has six years in the band, alto sax in small groups, sings in chorus and sex tet, and earned a Division I rating in the state music contest two years ago. Senior Day exercises at Greene Community School May 22 featured James Maxwell as program announcer Leroy King ery read the class prophecy and John Spratt the class history.
