Steven D. Barnett son of Mrs Iva J Barnett is among 600 cadets in the Air Force Academy class. He will receive a BS degree and be commissioned a second lieutenant June 5. He majored in aeronautical engineering and earned Superintendent's List honors and element leader rank cadet first lieutenant. Awards Night Highlights at Greene Community High School
Greene Community High School honored a large group of students at a May 23 awards night. The Stage Band under Ray Haltz performed, while Supt. L F Bachman distributed basic letter awards to seniors Tom Dix and others, juniors Jerome Marten and Gary Bonzer, and many freshmen. Memorial Day Services Set for Greene This Friday
Memorial Day activities are planned in Greene with a 9 39 am service at the bridge and a 10:00 am service at Rose Hill Cemetery. The Greene High School Band color guard firing squad and scouts will lead the parade meeting at City Hall at 9 15 am. World War I to Vietnam veterans may march in Sunday dress. firing squad members wear khaki. Wreath dropping by airplane and taps mark the ceremonies followed by remarks by Rev Wayne Gjerde and Rev Don Welsh. The cemetery program includes Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address read by Teresa Shaffer and General Logan’s Orders by Jolene Johnson. Cemetery officials urge removing grave decorations by June 8 and removing wires and metal supports.

PFC Dennis Steere Heads to All Army Rifle Championship
PFC Dennis D. Steere of Indio California, formerly Greene, has arrived at Ft Benning Georgia to compete in the All Army Rifle Championship starting June 3. Joint Exercise In Caribbean Sees Sailors In Action
Duane R Leavers, son of Mr and Mrs Du ane E Leavers, serves aboard the USS Durham in the Caribbean off Puerto Rico. The ship takes part in Operation Exotic Dancer II a 14 day joint service amphibious air borne drill with Army Air Force Navy Marine units.
