Gloria Arends leads as valedictorian with 32 credits and perfect A average while Steve Barnett earns 40 credits with 36 A’s and 4 B’s. The edition also notes a tug of war incident involving Toyce and Gary Smith and adds satirical quips on taxes.

Ramblers Defeat Charles City 2-1 in season finale

The Greene Ramblers beat Charles City 2 to 1 on Friday afternoon to finish the spring with 8 wins and 1 loss. Jerry Fischer and Mark Ott combined for a no hit effort, with Fischer pitching five innings and Ott closing. The Comets’ lone run came on Rambler errors and a passed ball in the second. Greene singled, Ott stole bases, Drake tripled, and a passed ball plated another run. Next up is Corn Bowl Conference League play starting at 7:00 PM.

James Miller Sale Postponed to Friday

The James Miller household sale was postponed from Saturday May 22 to Friday May 28 because of rain. The sale will start at 1:00 p.m. with Franklin Schuknecht as auctioneer.

Cancer fund drive totals $116 collected

Mrs Basil Johnson chairing the American Cancer Society Crusade in Coldwater Township announced a total of 116.00 was collected in the recent crusade. Funds will be turned in to Stanley Lubben in Allison, the crusade treasurer. County crusade chairman is Mrs Cleve Wilson of Allison.

Birth of William Louis Litterer in Bloomington

Mr and Mrs Charles Litterer of Bloomington Minnesota announce the birth of a son on Monday May 17. The infant weighed seven pounds and has been named William Louis. Paternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs Louis Litterer of Greene.

Greene High Stage Band to open Town Bandmasters Convention

Greene High School Stage Band named to perform at the Town Bandmasters Convention in Mason City from May 27 to 29. They will be the only state stage band and open the convention in the Wedgewood Room at Hotel Handford at 1 15 PM. Over 300 bandmasters and clinicians from across the country are expected, with other college and university bands and instrument clinics scheduled. Hemmerich Family Injured in Highway 14 Crash

Mr and Mrs Walter Hemmerich and daughters Bonnie and Mary were injured when their car left the road and struck a culvert north of Marble Rock on Highway 14. Sheriff L Lane cited severe weather as the cause. They were taken to Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City with Mrs Hemmerich in serious condition. Bonnie and Mary lightly hurt. Walter treated and released.

Stores to Close for Memorial Day Observance

Greene Commercial Club officials announce stores will close Monday May 31 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Since the holiday falls on Sunday May 30 residents observe Monday as the day. Greene Community School will be closed Monday with classes resuming Tuesday June 1.

Golf Tournament at Country Club May 31 2 PM

A mixed two ball foursome golf tournament is set for the Country Club on Monday May 31 starting at 2 PM. The event will be followed by a pot luck hamburger fry.

Awards at Local High School Friday Evening

W J Tatum presented senior to sophomore recipients, while Max Dougherty and Kenneth Sutton announced wrestling and football honors. Captain selections and MVPs highlighted the event, with a full roster of named awardees across multiple activities.

Rites Held for Nettie Moffett 92

Nettie Moffett 92 longtime Marble Rock resident died Friday evening May 21 at home. Born March 12 1573 she was one of twelve children of Peter and Nancy Judd Lines. She married Albert Moffett July 4 1893 and they observed their 70th wedding anniversary July 4 1963. Surviving: daughter M Lianora Huggett Marble Rock son Blair Moffett Minnesota four grandchildren and a great grandchild. Funeral at the Moffett residence with Rev G F Butter officiating. Girls Track Teams Won at Rockford

The seventh and eighth grade girls and the ninth grade girls track squads each won at Rockford last Thursday. Junior high scored 43 points with Marble Rock second at 40. ninth graders totaled 67, Marble Rock second at 38. Events highlighted include multiple relay and sprint wins, with top placers such as Ma da Dralle and Jolene Ist in the 440 medley, Debbi Scott and Nancy Kingery in sprints, and Kathy Tindall, Mary Rottler excelling in field events.

Daylight Time Changes This Saturday And Awards Given

Daylight Saving Time begins Saturday with clocks moved forward one hour. Greene High School held commencement exercises honoring valedictorian Gloria Arends and salutatorian Steven Barnett. Barnett earned a 3.9 GPA with extensive music and athletic involvement and will attend the Air Force Academy. Also recognized were several scholarship recipients and awardees including Barbara Barth, John Henning, Carolyn Wolf, and others.

Memorial Day Services At Rose Hill Cemetery

Memorial Day services will be held Monday May 31 at Rose Hill Cemetery. The 9 30 am service at the bridge features the Greene High School Band all Scouts and veterans. The 10 am program at the cemetery includes General Logan and the Gettysburg Address, a wreath by Girl Scouts, invocation by Rev Joseph Murphy and guest speaker Lee Bachman. Traffic plan designates gates for incoming and outgoing cars with one way drives. Park in ample areas and remove vases by June 7 to avoid obstruction during mowing.
