Bruce Cheney to Sing With Opera Co This Summer

Bruce Cheney and Edmund Brumskill have been chosen to perform in summer productions for the St. Louis Municipal Opera. They will have small roles and join a 30 member chorus in openings such as Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, with plans later for Camelot and Oliver. Both study under Jane Birkhead at State College of Town Cedar Falls.

Mrs Don Corning Burned in Explosion at Slater

Mrs Don Corning of Slater Missouri suffered burns to hands and face when a gas stove exploded on Monday afternoon She and her husband live in a trailer on the swimming pool site Mr Corning works for Shafer Construction Company building the pool She was treated by a local doctor and recuperating at home

Fertilizer Plant Completed in Greene

Construction finished on a new 72 by 44 foot fertilizer blending plant for Farmers Incorporated Co op Society of Greene. The facility includes a 10 by 30 foot mixing room with 600 ton capacity and features a two ton hopper scale and a two ton mixer. Fertilizers 06-46-0 0-0-60 and 18-46-0 will be handled to specification, with building by Quad States Construction Company of Des Moines.

Commercial Club to Welcome New Residents in Greene

Greene Commercial Club plans a Welcome Wagon style program with Mrs. Truitt as hostess to greet new residents, deliver welcome letters and distribute gifts through business partners. The club also schedules a larger Fourth of July fireworks display and related children’s races at the Country Club, with possible afternoon swimming races.

Plan Awards Night At The High School

The annual awards night will be held in the high school auditorium next Friday evening May 21 at 7 30. Athletic and music awards will be given to students who earned them. Special departmental awards are also made. The program includes the class of 1965 will prophecy and history. Students and parents are urged to attend with no admission charge.

Lyle Prunty Among Students Honored

Lyle Delmar Prunty, class of 1966 in Iowa State University College of Engineering, Ames, was honored at a Memorial Union recognition dinner on May NI1th. A 3.5 grade point average eligibility rule applied. Dr. George Christen sen, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, spoke. Lyle is the son of Mr and Mrs L D Prunty of Greene.

Greene native Major Heckman arrives in France

James E. Heckman son of Merle and Mrs Heckman of Greene arrives for duty at Chambley Air Base France as an RB 66 Destroyer pilot in USAFE. He is a Greene High School and University of Iowa graduate commissioned in 1950 through the aviation cadet program. His wife Delores Hull and child remain in Greene until housing in France is ready.

Wind storms cause damage near Greene

High winds Saturday afternoon uprooted trees and damaged structures in Greene county. A hay and cattle shed at Ardean Landers farm southwest of Greene was destroyed and a calf had to be killed. A steel corn crib and pear tree fell at Clair Kepple farm north of Greene, while Floyd Fiddick farm north of Greene lost a steel corn bin and several trees.

Ramblers Sweep Wins. Greene to Host Charles City Friday

Greene Ramblers beat Waverly Warhawks 3 1 after the warhawks started Hertel struggled in the first inning. Ott struck out 10 in six innings for Greene. In relief, Jerry Fischer faced two on and retired the side. Greene followed by defeating Dumont 7 2 with three first inning runs and strong pitching by Lynn Gabe and Jim Merfeld. The Ramblers will host Charles City High School on Friday.

Mrs. Geo Merfeld dies at Clark Nursing Home after illness. Daughter Cecelia Loughton born January 26 1895 in Mor, Iowa. Surviving include four sons Paul Eugene Maurice and three daughters Ruth Keeling Margaret Tolliver Lucille, plus twenty-two grandchildren and a brother Bernard Loughron. Final School Music Concert Tonight by Elementary Groups

The final concert of the year by the Elementary and Junior High Music Department is tonight at 7 45 in the high school auditorium. Featured are elementary and junior high choruses directed by Miss Marilyn Bundy plus the 5th grade Beginners Band 6th grade Cadet Band and the Junior High Band directed by Ray Holtz. Henry Dralles on European Tour

Mr and Mrs Henry Dralle left Sunday to spend three months in Europe. Their son and daughter in law Mr and Mrs James Dralle brought them to Minneapolis where they left Sunday night for New York City by jet. They sail today on the Queen Elizabeth for a conducted tour of ten countries. They will join a tour group and plan to return August 3 aboard the Nieuw Amsterdam from Rotterdam after visiting Germany.
