The editor urges safe driving for Memorial Day and notes rainfall delays to pool opening. It calls Greene to plan a clinic, a cement boat ramp at the park, and proper utilities at the Conservation Park to attract tourism and improve medical access.
Noble Harvey, 89, died in Broadlawns Hospital Des Moines after a lengthy illness. A former Greene baker, he lived in Des Moines for years and was survived by two sisters and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services were conducted at a Des Moines cemetery at 10 o clock Tuesday morning.
Greene Community Schools biology instructor Don Westermann has won an eight week NSF sponsored research grant at North Dakota State University. He will study raceon behavior and densities in waterfowl nesting areas amid expanding raccoon ranges and nest destruction impacting prairie waterfowl, with Kansas State trained expertise backing his work since September 1965.
Upper Iowa University senior Charles Brinkman, son of Mrs Rosa Brinkman, is awarded a biology assistantship at the University of Oregon for 1966 67. He will complete his B S at Upper Iowa in August, receive a nine month stipend of 2000 dollars, and tuition remission while pursuing his Master of Science, teaching biology in the program.
Olive Schultz Oglesby 64 owner of Oglesby Food Store Mason City was killed about 3 30 p m Tuesday when her car allegedly moved into the path of a Corn Belt Power truck four miles south of Greene on Highway 14. Myron Dalis Card Hampton driver of the truck and a passenger Richard Husz Hampton were not seriously injured Husz had a slight arm laceration Greene Fire Department extinguished a truck fire. Accident investigated by Butler County Sheriff Pete Boomgarden and Deputy Sheriff Marvin Barth. Patterson James Funeral Home Mason City handling arrangements pending.

Mr and Mrs Kenneth Sutton announce the birth of a daughter at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital Charles City on a Saturday in May. The infant weighed 8 pounds 15 ounces and has been named Laurie Ann. Laurie Ann joins four brothers at home.
The final NIAD Challenge meeting covers population changes past and predicted, the impact on NIAD and rural America, and a review of the NIAD Challenge series. Sessions are June 6 at Garner Elementary School, June 7 at Charles City High School, and June 8 at the YWCA in Mason City led by Wallace Oge and Ron Powers of Iowa State University.

Memorial Day services will be held Monday May 30 with a 9 30 a m bridge ceremony and a 10 a m program at Rose Hill Cemetery. Greene High School Band color bearers firing squad Veterans of Foreign Wars American Legion Girl Scouts Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will form the march line meeting at City Hall 9 15 a m. The bridge service includes band numbers wreath lowering by Girl Scouts prayer by Rev Kenneth Byerly firing squad volley and taps. Four buses will transport band ministers and Girl Scouts to the cemetery. Rose Hill service features band numbers General Logan Orders by Don Wunsch Gettysburg Address by Sheri Johnson wreath on Unknown Soldier grave. invocation by Rev Joseph Murphy and guest speaker L F Bachman. The program closes with Star Spangled Banner volley taps and prayer.
The Greene community swimming pool, funded by Etta Buchholz, will be dedicated Sunday at 2:00 PM at the pool site with Rev G F Butler and Judge Henry Graven speaking. A plaque will honor Mrs Buchholz, and Mayor Ramker will accept the pool key. Pool hours start May 30 with free swimming on dedication day.
The fourth grade beginners band program begins with testing and try outs this week. Students may try the instrument of their choice and parents will receive letters indicating interest. Free summer lessons on new instruments will lead to daily instruction next week for two weeks.
The Greene Ramblers, coached by Jerry Eimers, beat the Charles City Comets 5 to 3 to finish the season at 10 wins and 2 losses. Lynn Gabe went 2 for 4 with key RBIs and a strong pitching run, fanning four while retiring the last six batters. Jeff Drake, Tom Hagarty, Barth, Nettleton, Ritter, and Sanders contributed on offense with timely hits and steals.
Butler County Republicans met at the Allison courthouse Friday morning with Herman Faber in charge. Delegates named to the Des Moines State Convention include Lawrence Prunty, Mrs. Keith Drake, and others such as John Stout Vern Kyhl Craig Rolfs George Palmer Pearl Fisher and many more. Faber was re elected county chairman and Pearl Fisher re elected vice chairman Vernon Larson became organizational chairman. A straw vote favored Robert Beck for governor and Senator Vernon Kyhl spoke on upcoming issues and recent laws.
Butler County led NIAD in per capita local government cost at 274 dollars in 1962 while Franklin County posted the lowest at 182 dollars. The NIAD average was 230 dollars with Cerro Gordo 228 Floyd 242 Hancock 220 Mitchell 202 Winnebago 234 Worth 236 and Wright 244. The study Local Government in NIAD is available through County Extension offices in NIAD or the Area Extension Agent's office at Mason City. Professor Charles Wiggins discusses reforms but notes only NIAD leaders and citizens can decide their merit.

John J. Naumann and Paul Ruzicka, sons of Greene residents, will graduate Cum Laude and with a Bachelor of Arts degree at Loras College in Dubuque on Sunday June 5. R. Sargent Shriver will address the commencement and Monsignor Louis J. McCarthy will give the baccalaureate sermon. Both men will receive honorary degrees. The 1966 class numbers 261 at Loras.
Bob Curtis, local postmaster, announced no window or rural route service on Monday, May 30. Mail will be received, distributed and dispatched as on other holidays. Commencement awards highlighted top students and multiple scholarships were announced for Linda Stuntz, Candace Ray, and others with local honors and future college plans.
Susie Van Eman born July 4 1878 died May 18 1966 at Chautauqua Nursing Home Charles City aged 87. Survived by son Dale R Van Eman Parkersburg daughter Leona Nichols San Diego five great grandchildren and two grandchildren. Funeral held May 21 1966 at 3 00 p m in Greene Methodist Church with interment Rose Hill Cemetery. Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge.

A memorial flag dedication for Merle B. Heckman World War I veteran will be observed at the ten o clock morning worship service at the Methodist Church on Sunday May 29.
The Cub Scouts will hold their final pack meeting of the season this evening at 8:00 at the elementary school. Red Cross officials will demonstrate mouth to mouth resuscitation. All Cub Scouts and their parents are urged to attend, and the public is invited.
