The editor lauds Greene residents for new street signs and urges adding house numbers and a city map. He suggests a central display or phone book map, praises local churches, schools, stores, parks, and river, and notes Jaycees could sell numbers and name plates to fund community projects.
Three men were inducted in Butler County on May 3. Lawrence E. Wihlm volunteered. Drafted were Merlin D. Schuknecht of Greene and Jon Schuck of Parkersburg. A June 1 induction will involve four men including Russell J. Druvenga of Parkersburg who enlisted in the Air Force on April 20.
Funeral services were held at St James Lutheran Church Allison for Mrs George Johnson 73 who died Sunday morning at Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo after a stroke Survivors include three daughters Mrs George Hilberts Mrs Anton Johnson and Mrs Richard Johnson ten sons Everet George Harry Lawrence Alfred Vern John Stauffer Fred Herbert four brothers and four sisters A burial was in Allison cemetery
A smorgasbord brunch will be held at the Country Club on Sunday. Directors will serve it from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Miriam Kocher 85 died at Clark Nursing Home after two months as a patient. Born in Sanborn to Abram and Emma DeLong, she married Leon S. Kocher in Grundy Center on June 29, 1899. Survived by two sons, two daughters, ten grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. Funeral at Reid's Chapel at 2:00 with Rev. Wayne Gierde. burial in Lynwood Cemetery Clarksville.
David C Ritter USN son of Mr and Mrs Wallace W Ritter Route 1 Greene Iowa completed seven weeks of Navy basic training at Naval Training Center San Diego California He studied military subjects lived under ship and shore station conditions and learned seamanship survival drill and basic subjects He was assigned to a school shore station or ship after recruit training based on tests preferences and Navy needs.
Mrs. Dalen Jeanie Krull and Mrs. Delos Delores Adelmund have received their high school diplomas from the American School in Chicago Illinois.
The Iowa Supreme Court, on the Attorney General's recommendation, appointed J. E. Van Eschen, a local attorney, as an Assistant Bar Examiner for the Iowa Bar Examination to be held at the State University of Iowa Law School during the week of June 13 to 17. The exam, required for Iowa legal licensure, is held in Iowa City in June and Des Moines in October. candidates must graduate from an accredited law school and pass the exam. Van Eschen is a 1958 graduate of the State University of Iowa Law School.
The Cub Scouts of Greene will play the Cub Scouts of Allison here next Saturday May 2 starting at 9:00 a.m. The eight and nine year olds form one group and the ten and eleven year olds the other. Each game lasts three innings.
El-Bar Lanes Men's Bowling team won the Barth Chevrolet Handicap tournament with a 2966 score, defeating Gary's Sinclair in the final. Sinclair’s trio posted 2830. El-Bar knocked out Fisher Construction in the semis while Gary's Sinclair beat Chevy 11 Rollers. Top individual scores included Sam Sneed with 203 and 213, Elmer Stock 216 and 204, Carroll Schroeder 200 and 201, and others. The annual student produced musical revue will be held this evening May 18 at the high school auditorium starting 7 45 p m. Featured are numbers by the stage band teachers band the Bird and Nesters and vocal and instrumental groups. Admission supports expenses with lunch available from Music Mothers.
Northern Natural Gas Company and Peoples Natural Gas Division push a Greene expansion to bring natural gas service this summer. Goerdt Construction awarded the Greene distribution system contract. project cost around 200000 dollars. Plans include mid August service, Iowa Commerce Commission rate approval, and public outreach from Art Krenger and Roy Stolen.
Infant Robin dein Krull was baptized Sunday May 15 at St Peter s Lutheran Church. Her sponsors were grandmothers Mrs Henry Siemens and Mrs George Krull.
Mr and Mrs Delos Adelmund announce the birth of a daughter at Floyd County Veteran's Memorial Hospital on Thursday May 12. The baby weighs 7 pounds 2 ounces and has been named Jodi Rae.
Herman Faber, Butler County Republican Chairman, announced May 12 that the county convention will be held Friday May 20 at 10 00 A M CST in the courthouse Al liso Iowa to adopt a county platform and transact business. Delegates will be chosen for the Republican State Convention at Des Moines June 18. The county central committee urges all delegates to attend.
The Greene High School senior class of forty eight students will travel to Minneapolis Minnesota this weekend with six chaperones and Superintendent V J Tatum. They depart Greene at 430 am Friday by bus, visit Ford Plant Southdale Shopping Center Northwestern Air Lines and KSTP TV, see a cimerama that evening, return 730 pm Saturday, and stay at the Curtis Hotel.

Charles Ray is pictured receiving a service plaque from Don H. Carson district agency supervisor with Hawkeye Security Insurance Company in Des Moines. The plaque honors Sperry-Ray Insurance for continuous and outstanding service since 1946.
The Greene Rambler track team finished 11th or 12th in class B at the state meet in Des Moines on Saturday with over 40 schools participating. Darwin Ramker placed 4th in the 220 yard dash in .22.7 tying the school record and 5th in the 100 yard dash. The relay quartet Ruffridge Barth Hagarty Ramker finished 3rd in 44.9, setting a new school record, surpassing the old 45.5.
Two Butler County youths enlist in the United States Marine Corps for four years. Bemamin DeWitt, 24, and Rickie Schwartz, 18, both of Shell Rock, will report to San Diego for eight weeks of basic training and then transfer to Camp Pendleton. Schwartz joined under the Aviation Guarantee program. Enlistments were through the Waterloo Marine Corps Recruiting Office, with recruiters at the Allison Selective Service Office each Thursday.
The Rose Hill Cemetery board requires vases and pots on graves be removed by June 7 to allow mowing. Wires and metal supports must be taken down to avoid hazards. Memorial Day traffic will use the north and south gates for entry and the center gate for exit. permissions are needed to plant again.
Glenn Maxson underwent major surgery Friday afternoon at Mercy Hospital in Mason City. He will be a patient there at least another week.
The Winnebago Council, Boy Scouts of America, held a Monday evening meeting at the Holiday Inn Mason City with a 6:30 p m buffet. Dr L C Orton of Mason City was re elected president as Tom Albrecht Cecil Starkweather R D Ackley Arnold Staudt William McDowell were named to the executive board for 1966 67 July 1 to June 30 Kenneth Lacy of Allison joined the advisory committee.
