Editor Speaks On Doctors Day Celebration In Community

The editor praises local groups for organizing Doctors Day events. The Woman's Club Commercial Club Jaycees and Music Mothers organized planning setup and service. Ray Holtz provided music with improv and local talents Bruce Cheney Pam Drake Jerry Stark and Go Go Gals contributed. The evening fostered community pride and memorable honors.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mielke Jr. was born Friday May 19 at Floyd County Veteran's Memorial Hospital in Charles City. Todd Christopher weighs 8 pounds 2 ounces. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mielke Sr. of St Paul Minnesota and Mrs. Edith Farmer of Superior Wisconsin. Mr. Mielke has taught French in Greene Public Schools for four years.

Neighbors Helped At Rock Farm

A group of neighbors and friends planted 91 acres of corn and 40 acres of beans for Mrs. Robert Keck and family over several days. Helpers include Gerald Kingery, Lyle Stauffer, Harry Eliasen, Walter Eliasen, Clarence Eliasen, George Menken, Galen Menken, Walter Gabe, Vern Van Raden, Valeris Taylor, Quentin Hildebrand, Lowell Hobert, David O'Dowd, Donald Ritter, Bill Bahlmann, Art Schuett, Herbert Schafer, Emery Neumeyer, and Kenneth and David Kock. neighbor ladies provided meals and served. Aaron Jewell supplied fuel.

Senior Bowlers Place in Ames Tournament Thirty five bowlers over 55 compete

Senior Bowlers aged 55 or over competed in the Iowa State Senior Bowling Association Championship at 20th Century Lanes Ames over the first two May weekends. Leo Gabe and Lester Stock finished second in handicap doubles with 13814, Kenneth Jackson and Galen Maxwell were 26th with 1204, Veric Barth and Walter Gabe 27th with 1203. Gabe took second in Class 10 all events with 1280 and finished 23rd in handicap singles with 618.

Beginners Band Starts at School

A Greene elementary School fourth graders begin a new beginners band with free summer instrumental lessons. Ray Holtz, band director, says instruments can be rented on a two month trial or used instruments may be purchased. Parents and interested fourth through sixth graders are invited to the school music room Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to discuss lessons and instrument options. Lessons start Thursday June 1.

Fractured Hip for Herman Schroeder in Benson

Fractured hip sustained by Herman Schroeder of Greene after a fall at the home of his son in Benson Minnesota. He was transported by ambulance to Floyd Hospital where surgery on the fracture was performed Monday morning to pin the hip.

1216 Workers Under Social Security In Butler County

About 1,216 workers in Butler county's non-farming businesses earned taxable wages under the old age survivors and disability insurance program, in the latest County Business Patterns. 339 reporting units paid out roughly $986,000 in taxable wages in the first quarter of 1965, with 528 workers in retail trade and 115 in building materials and farm equipment and 115 in automotive dealers and service stations.

Former Greene resident Agnes McMahon Hardman dies in California

Agnes McMahon Hardman a former Greene resident died in Anaheim California on May 20. Born February 2 1885 in Greene she was daughter of John and Elizabeth McMahon. Survivors include sisters Mrs Anna Sylvester Greene and Mrs Charlotte Rex Osage. Husband preceded her in death. Funeral services are in San Diego today with burial in National Cemetery San Diego.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Friedrichs returned home Friday evening from Valley City North Dakota where they attended funeral services for Mrs. Friedrichs sister Mrs. Lawrence Lee who passed away suddenly. Memorial Day Services Planned Tuesday At Rose Hill Cemetery

Memorial Day events are set for Tuesday May 30 with a 9 15 a m gathering at City Hall and a 10 a m program at Rose Hill Cemetery. The Greene High School Band and Scouts lead a procession to the bridge and cemetery, followed by invocations speeches and taps, with traffic control measures and cemetery access details to ease flow and safety.

Crowd honors doctors with Doctors Day parade and banquet

A large Greene crowd joined a 45 float parade, a reception at the elementary school, and an evening recognition banquet at the high school auditorium to honor Dr. H G MacLeod and Dr. B V Andersen. The Ramblers defeated Newman of Mason City 6 to 5 in a late burst. Doug Ruffridge homered twice in the first and again over the tennis courts for two long balls, then added a double. Fire at Bullock residence tackled by Greene firefighters

The Greene Fire Department was dispatched to the Michael Bullock residence two miles southeast of Greene at 5:40 pm Tuesday to extinguish a wall fire. The blaze was stopped before causing damage to furniture or personal belongings.
