St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fayette invites the public to an open house of its new church and rectory next Sunday May 21 from 1 30 to 4 30 p m Tours will be conducted during the hours The new facilities sit along highway 150 at the west edge of Fayette The first parish Mass will be said Sunday May 28 Rev Lowell J Shekleton pastor is the son of Mr and Mrs Emmett Shekieton of Greene.
The Community Center will be open Thursday afternoon May 18 during the Doctors Appreciation parade. Anyone wishing to use the facilities may enter via the stairway.
Mace H. Bammann has arrived home from Viet Nam and is spending a 30 day furlough with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Bammann. He will report at Fort Lewis Washington on June Vth.

Carl F. Dreier 81 died Friday morning at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital after four days of illness. Born November 10 1885 in Bresegard Germany he moved to Greene Iowa in 1900. Survived by wife Martha two brothers August and Richard and six nieces and nephews. Services Monday May 15 at 2 pm at St Peters Lutheran Church burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The annual high school musical review will be held in the high school auditorium this evening at 8 o'clock. Produced by the vocal and instrumental music departments, the show invites everyone to attend with refreshments served at the end.

The Towa Library Association held its district meeting in Eldora on May 10 with Dr. Frederick Weze man, director of the State University of Iowa Library School, as a featured speaker. Eighty three people from fifteen counties discussed library administration. Greene attendees included librarians Mrs. Royal Hardman and Mrs. Eldred Mather and Greene board members Mrs. J. H. Graven, Mrs. R. F. Ludwig, and Mrs. Clyde Wegand.
The annual Butler County Dairy Day will be held in Parkersburg on Saturday June 24 with a parade dairy bar and entertainment. Miss Marlys Shde the Butler County Dairy Princess will appear along with Miss Sue Schultz the alternate Iowa Dairy Princess.

John Stauffer underwent emergency surgery Friday evening at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital in Charles City. Hospital officials reported the procedure proceeded without complications and the patient is resting in recovery.

Mr and Mrs Kaiser of Seattle welcomed a daughter on Friday May 12 weighing 7 pounds 5% ounces named Linda Sue. She has a brother Danny at home. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Glenn Clark of Orchard and Mr and Mrs C Kaiser of Greene.
Two household sales will be held in Greene on Saturday May 27. The Bertha Thomas sale begins at 16:00 a.m. and the Mrs Henry sale starts at 1:00 p.m. Advertising for both sales will be in next week's Recorder.
The Greene Merchants softball team hosts Mason City Hamm's on Saturday May 20 for the season’s first home game. Greene joins the Northeast Iowa Softball League with teams including Nashua Cedar Falls-Larry Lang Waterloo and others. listed Greene players and local sponsors are named, with an 7:30 p.m. start for all games and a full schedule through August 2 with tournaments in Mason City Webster City and Austin.
The Iowa State Highway Commission approved the low bids on May 9 for two highway projects in Butler and Bremer Counties. Midwest Paving Company and Van Buskirk-Cook of Sioux City bid 571,168 for 6 miles of asphaltic concrete on the Iowa 3 relocation in Butler County, with completion by November 18. The second project, 3.4 miles of Iowa 3 reconstruction from the Butler County line to Waverly, drew a 412,221 bid from the same firms, with completion by November 18.
Greene proclaims Doctors Appreciation Day on Thursday May 18 and honors Dr. H G MacLeod and Dr. B V Andersen for over 70 years of service. A parade led by the high school band will include nearly fifty floats and horses, with early dismissal for students and an open house at the elementary school followed by an 7 PM banquet at the high school auditorium.

Ramblerettes beat Clarksville 77 to 42 in a dual track meet as Greene led in running events while Clarksville struggled in field events. Junior High also swept 22 to 10. Scoring includes Jacobs and Kielman in long jump and Harris in shot put, with lights on Drake and Leavens in sprints and relays as Fischer Neumeyer Shultz and Rottler contribute for the Governors.
Summer baseball practice for the current 4th 5th and 6th grade boys will be held Saturday May 20 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. The session is for boys only.
