I H Ainslie a Dumont farmer seeks Republican nomination for the second district supervisor seat covering Coldwater Dayton Bennedette Pittsford and West Point. Ainslie served in WW II? and has eight years as Pittsford clerk. Other Republicans Cecil Starkweather Ernest De Bower Marvin Bruns and Gene Reser and Democrat Bruce? Reser of Bristow.
Iowa's Freedom Bond live began May 1 with a Kennedy appeal urging May and June purchases. John McWhirter of Allison, bond sales chairman, reported Butler County April Series E and H sales at $92,563, totaling $282,325 for four months and reaching 47 percent of the drive.
The Explorer Scouts will hold a bicycle inspection on May 28 in front of the high school from 6 30 p m until dark. Bicycles will be checked for defects and scotch lighted. Parents are urged to bring the bicycles for inspection. A scotch lighted bike is a safe bike.
The North Iowa Band Festival in Mason City on June 19 needs convertibles 1958 or newer for queen candidates due to a large parade. People with suitable convertibles should call Ray Holtz in Greene to participate.
Bert Pooley 79 of Greene died May 21 after a months illness. Born January 30 1883 he was a longtime farmer livestock dealer businessman and Republican leader. Survived by wife Amy two daughters five grandchildren and a brother. Funeral Thursday May 24 at 2 PM at Greene Methodist Church with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials to charity or Bert Pooley Memorial Fund.
Greene business places will close from 2:00 to 3:00 Thursday afternoon during services for Mr Pooley.
Myrtle Shorman of Greene is freed after a suspended 1 to 8 year term for manslaughter in the November 1961 shooting of her husband George Shorman. District Judge L. E. Plummer fined her $1,000 as the pre-trial investigation concluded and she pled guilty prior to trial. The victim died from blood loss after being shot in the leg on the way to a hospital.
Mr and Mrs Allan Jacobson announced that Mrs Sigurd Jacobson underwent surgery to lengthen leg muscles. She will remain in hospital about a week to ten days at 3461 East Armour Ave Cudahy Wisconsin.
The second Sabin oral polio dose will be given Thursday May 24 in Butler and Floyd counties. Clinic runs 1 to 6 PM at Greene High School auditorium with school children receiving vaccines in morning. Duplicate slips, consent forms, and 25 cent dose charge apply. volunteers invited.
Don Devies and Eldred Kingery juniors at Greene Community High School have been chosen to attend Boy's State at Camp Dodge Des Moines from June 2 to June 9. Don serves on student council annual staff and the golf team. Eldred plays football basketball baseball track and dances in the band. Their trip is sponsored by the American Legion.
Rev and Mrs James Shields missionary appointees will direct the Daily Vacation Bible School at Calvary Baptist Church Greene from June to 8. Sessions start 9 a m and end 11 45 am daily. They have led many youth meetings nationwide and use flannel board magnetic board flash cards and magic. All boys and girls and older folks are welcome. Shields serves as Station Supply Evangelist with Baptist Mid Missions after previously pastoring Calvary Baptist Webster City.
The Fifth Annual Musical Review will be held this evening at 8 o'clock in the high school auditorium. Performances include the Top Twenty vocal group, the high school stage band, girls glee club, girls trio, and saxophone quintet. Songs listed are Tonight, The Twist, Cinnamon Kisses, Play It Cool, Bonnie Eloise, Summertime, Moon River, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, The World Outside and Theme From Exodus. Music Mothers will serve lunch after the program.
Other Survivors Mrs Matt Frericks was also survived by two sons Lindy and George and a grandson Wilbur Frericks who was raised by the Frericks.

John G. Harms of Allison announces his run for the Republican nomination in the second district supervisor race on June 4. A Butler County native, West Point cadet instructor, WWII veteran, and longtime local businessman and conservation board member, Harms is active in Amvet and American Legion posts.
Strong winds caused damage across Greene area Tuesday affecting farms near Mary Perrin, George Menken, and George Newman. Baccalaureate services are scheduled for May 27 at 8 PM in Greene Community School. Commencement on May 29 at 8 PM. Dr. Virgil Lagomarcino of Iowa State University will deliver the commencement address.
Ed Hanley 77 died at 1:00 am Thursday in Clark Rest Home after months as patient. Born September 15, 1884 near Sheffield to Patrick and Mary Hanley he farmed near Dougherty and Greene before retiring to Greene. He married Kate O’Brien October 29, 1914. Survived by wife and siblings, funeral at St Mary’s Catholic Church conducted by Rev P J Bayle, burial in St Mary’s Cemetery. Williams Mortuary in charge.
Mr and Mrs Wilson Ray are notified their son Rol la has been advanced to Shipfitter Metalsmith 2nd Class on May 16. He is presently at sea aboard the aircraft carrier Intripid taking part in the next orbital space shot.
New resident couple Mr and Mrs Gary Beck welcomed a son born May 11 at Mercy Hospital in Mason City. The infant weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces and has been named Rodney Charles.
