Doctor Dental Committee Meeting Discusses Incorporation

On Sunday May 16 at 7 00 p m in the Community Center basement twenty six people attended a meeting of the Doctor Dental Committee. The group discussed Dr George Orndorff's future practice location and obtained a cost estimate of 39000 for Kenset construction not including foundation utilities or finishing. Msgr Cooney with Dubuque approval donated the lot east of the Catholic academy for a doctor's office. A motion passed to form a non profit corporation with two donation options tax deductible gift or loan with certificate of indebtedness. Norman Graven asked attendees to sign articles by Friday. Officers of the committee were proposed as the first officers of the corporation and Loren McRoberts Harold Stark and Mariette Reid were named as directors by secret ballot.

Townsley rites held in Greene for Mrs Rex Townsley

Funeral services for Mrs. Rex Townsley 63 of Greene were held May 12 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Howard Dukelow officiating. She was co owner of The Corner Dress Shop and survived by a son Don of Rudd two daughters and eight grandchildren.

Greene pool hires Linda Grumley as manager

The Greene swimming pool board announces Linda Grumley as pool manager for the year. She renewed her advanced life saving course and earned a Water Safety Instruction certificate this past year at Tarkio College. Lifeguards named are John Van Eschen, Sherri Muhlenbruck and Kathy Keen. Board members listed include Ann Graven-Pres, Sarah Rottler-Sec-Treas, LaVern Kehoe, Walter Wunsch and Keith Dralle. Opening date not yet announced.

Guitar Concert at Greene Elementary School

A guitar concert led by Miss Gayle Hartwig was held at Greene Elementary School at 2 p m Sunday afternoon. More than 100 parents and friends attended as 21 students performed solo selections and shared the stage with coffee, lemonade and cookies served afterward.

Butler County fair parade sets July 14 lineup

A large parade is planned for the first night of the Butler County Fair on July 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the Allison fairgrounds. Butler County township residents may enter for prizes ranging from 5 to 12 dollars in categories including floats horses humorous antique and kids 10 and under.

GHS Jazz Band to be on TV in statewide broadcast

Greene High School Jazz Band under Ray Holtz will appear as one of six top Iowa high school jazz groups in a 90 minute Iowa Jazz Championships special on May 21 at 8 30 pm. Finals were held May 8 at Valley High School West Des Moines with Class B-C, A and AA finalists and channel listings across Iowa.

Postal Service cuts mail service at Greene Post Office

A memo from the Greene Iowa postal satellite notes major changes after May 30 1976 with no Sunday mail and outside pickup at 4 20 pm and dispatch to Waterloo SCF. From June 1 1976 the service counter will close 12 30 pm to 2 00 pm and patrons are urged to mail early to meet a 5 00 pm dispatch deadline for bulk mailings.

Handicraft Club to Meet May 26 Picnic

The Handicraft Club will meet Wednesday May 26 for its annual guest state picnic in Perrin Park at 12 noon. If rain occurs the event moves to the Community Center. Members should bring a guest a covered dish and sable services for themselves and guests. After a brief meeting the club visits Clarksville Nursing Home for a program and social hour luncheon. Music Parents elect officers for 1976 77 school year

The Music Parents chose Bob Nordmeyer Jr as President Anneth Brinkman as President elect Shirley Landers as Secretary and Mary Smith as Treasurer for 1976 77. They will assume office July 1. A motion kept 400 in checking and the rest in savings. A proposal to buy Division I rating pins for band and vocal students was tabled.

Deadline for military and Homestead exemptions 1976

The July 1 1976 deadline applies for signing both military and homestead exemptions. Eligible homeowners include active duty service members from World War II Korea Vietnam eras with defined service dates. Service records must be county filed, deeds recorded, and applications signed in the County Assessor's Office by July 1 1976.

Janet Twachtmann wins gold at special Olympics in Des Moines

Janet Twachtmann daughter of M and Herman Stubbe Greene won gold in the 50 yard dash at Drake Stadium Des Moines. She also won the softball throw at the district meet in Oelwein to qualify for the state meet. Twachtmann is a Goodwill Industries client. 35 other Goodwill clients competed in Oelwein. About 1500 people competed in Drake track and Valley High swimming events.
