Bicentennial Prayer Breakfast Draws 140 Women

Diane Ott of Nora Springs spoke to more than 140 women at St. Peter's Lutheran church in Fui observing the National Day of Prayer. She urged personal salvation through Jesus Christ as America’s path to unity and blessing, citing II Chronicles 7 14 and stressing prayer and intercession. The event featured a breakfast for women and children from local churches, with flowers, red white and blue decorations, and tables set in the church basement and hallway. The morning opened with a Cant. on Page 5.

Day Camp Reservations Due As June Camp Looms

Diane Stanton Wins Betty Crocker Award at Greene High

Diane Stanton, a Greene High senior and daughter of M&M Roger Stanton, received the Betty Crocker Award for top exam score. She has participated in basketball, Speech, 4-H and is a lector at St. Mary's Church and plans to study Textiles and clothing at Iowa State University in Ames.

Spirit of ’76 Fair to kick off GOP fundraising

Third District Republicans launch Spirit of ’76 Fair at Butler Co Fairgrounds on June 5 at 2 p.m. A VIP auction, sky diving display, concert, and speech by Congressman Charles Grassly are planned to raise funds for district candidates. Greene High School to Host 1976 Commencement Speaker

Dr. Helen Davis Dell, 1944 Greene High grad, will speak at the May 30 2 p.m. commencement. Dell, daughter of Lawrence H. Davis, earned degrees at Iowa State Teachers College Colorado State College Ball State University and earned an MA in 1963 and EdD in 1967. She taught in Iowa Colorado San Jose State University and worked with PLAN at the American Institute for Research. She now serves as a Program consultant for Minnesota Dept. of Education in St Paul under IESEA Title IV Part C. She and husband Daryl Dell have three children Pamela, Marcia and Kent. Greene Swimming Pool Opens May 31 Weather Permitting

Opening set for May 31 with hours 1 to 5 p m and 7 to 9 p m. The pool may operate daily if the temperature reaches 68 degrees, weather permitting. Polly Price Honored at Extension Home Economist Open House

An open house honoring Mrs Lillian Polly Price, Butler and Grundy counties Extension Home Economist, was held Sunday from 2 to 4 pm in the REC building meeting room. Price will retire July 1 with her last day June 1. She served as extension home economist in Butler and Grundy counties for three years and previously in Clark County for sixteen years.

Beginners Band Forming At Greene Elementary

A new beginners band is being formed in the fourth grade at Greene Elementary. Free instrumental lessons will be offered with trial instrument rentals for two months. Fourth graders will be tested and demonstrated this week to qualify for the regular band program. Lessons begin Monday June 8 and parents of eligible students are invited to visit the high school band room between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

City to Test Sewer Lines in Greene for 2 Weeks

Greene city crews will conduct a smoke test to inspect the sanitary sewer lines for about two weeks. White smoke may appear in basements and vent pipes due to faulty traps. The test is harmless and city personnel will be in the area to answer questions.
