Greene High School Jazz Band Wins State Championship
The Greene High School Jazz Band won the 1976 Iowa High School State Jazz Band championship in Des Moines after advancing from district and festival wins. The band earned two outstanding musician awards and had members recognized by the National Association of Jazz Educators. The event was televised by the Iowa Educational Broadcasting network and hosted by Des Moines area high schools.

Rites Held May 3 for Clara Weiss in Greene
Clara Weiss born Sept 4 1879 daughter of Bernard and Christina Springer Bamker died April 30 after residing on a Clarksville farm most of her life. Survived by five sons and three daughters including Victor Arthur Earl Bernard Wayne Grace and Christine Balkenende. Funeral services were May 3 at St Marys Catholic Church Greene with Msgr Cooney officiating. Reid Funeral Chapel handled arrangements.

Speech and Chorus Awards Night Set for May 12
The Speech and Chorus Awards Night will be held on Wednesday May 12 at 7 30 p m in the old gym. The chorus will sing several selections including their three contest pieces and some new songs. Awards will honor contest and participation work for the year. The speech unit will present prose interpretation by Kelly Ebling and poetry set to music by Deb Meyer plus the Bicentennial choral reading. The public is urged to attend.

Girl Scout Court of Awards and Fly-Up Evening
