Greene Ramblerettes track team peaked late, qualifying 9 girls in 5 events for the state meet. Pam Miller set a 440 dash record at 59.6 and won the 220 dash in 26.6, anchoring the medley to a school-record 1:53.6. Medley, shuttle hurdle, and relay squads added strong showings as Greene placed high in team scoring behind Hampton and Sheffield.

River Days Water Events Open With Canoe Race
Sunday's program opens with the Last Pioneer Canoe Race at Gate's Bridge on the Shell Rock River, 11 o'clock, open to men women and children, with kayaks welcome. Power Boat Races follow at 1 PM featuring top hydroplane drivers, plus an around the oval canoe race during intermission and a bath tub race to close the day. Saturday and Sunday offer public speed boat rides along the Shell Rock.

Funeral services for Esther Sellers were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Vogel Funeral Home Dumont with burial in Dumont Cemetery. Esther Estelle Gough Sellers, born October 18 1894 near Bristow IA, taught in rural schools, married Claude Goodsell in 1913, and lived years at the Goodsell Hatchery in Dumont Allison and Parkersburg. She died May 10 at age 79 in Charles City. She is survived by daughter Virginia Davis, sister Marian Tracy, brothers Everett and Glenn Gough, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The service followed by a luncheon hosted by United Methodist Women.

The Greene High School Concert Band earned a Division I rating at the May 4 state large group contest in Mason City, marking the 14th consecutive Division I for the ensemble. Grassley Satisfactory After Leg Surgery
Rep. Charles Grassley of New Hartford is in satisfactory condition after undergoing surgery at University Hospitals to remove a tumor from the upper shin bone. A hospital spokesman said he will wear a cast and use crutches for four months with no weight bearing on the leg.
