The Rambler track squad tied for second in the Corn Bowl Conference meet at Osage on May 2. Rainy weather hampered events as Greene led with 88 points and St Ansgar 58. Individual placers included Steve Clapham third in 220, Jim Curtis and Jim Backer high/low hurdles podiums, Daryl Fischer in multiple events, John Backer in pole vault, and various relay and field event marks across grades.
Emil Olsen 82 a retired farmer died unexpectedly Tuesday April 30 at Williams Rest Home in La Porte City Funeral services were held Friday at the American Lutheran Church in La Porte City with burial in Reinbeck Cemetery He is survived by a daughter Mrs Harold Nielsen of Greene two sisters Mrs Walter Wellman of Cedar Falls and Mrs George Bedard of Washburn and seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren
Army Pfc. Galen L. Brinkman of Greene and his wife Jerry Lyn participated in the fifth annual U S Army Air Defense Command Small Arms Tournament at Fort Carson Colorado. The six day meet ended May 4 with more than 250 rifle and pistol marksmen competing. Brinkman is with Headquarters Battery of the 3rd Artillery's 6th Missile Battalion in Orland Park Illinois. He joined the Army in 1961 and trained at Fort Carson. A Greene Public High School graduate of 1956 he was a farmer before enlisting.
Mrs. David Drees returned home Friday evening from St. Joseph's Hospital in Mason City after a period as a patient following surgery.
Parents of the Senior Class 1963 sponsor after prom events on May 18. Students will ride buses to Charles City to view Danny Kaye film The Man from the Diners Club, then return for prizes and a school cafeteria breakfast. General chairs are Mrs Vern Rottler and Mrs Ivan Clikeman.
A group of 34 neighbors and friends gathered at the Fred Wirth farm north of Greene to plow and plant corn. They brought 27 tractors, 12 plows, 12 discs and 3 planters. By night they plowed and disced 57 acres and planted 94 acres of corn. At noon six men moved to the Ivan Schafer farm to plow 10 acres. The neighbor ladies provided meals for lunch and dinner.
Claire Curtis is named the recipient of a 25 year service plaque from Citizens Fund Insurance Co. He has served as an agent for the company since 1938.
Butler County Department of Social Welfare relocates from Butler County Courthouse to the State Bank of Allison Building in Allison Iowa on May 13 and 14. The second floor office will be closed those days with phone service kept for emergencies. The move addresses space shortage and aims to improve service to residents.

The Greene Ramblers beat Clarksville 5 to 1 last Wednesday and edged Charles City 7 to 5 Monday to reach the sectional final. Dumont topped Allison 2 to 1 in the other semifinal and will oppose Greene at 7:30 p.m. on the local diamond.
Two men appeared in district court on Monday May 6 Walter Dean Scheidecker 20 of Clarksville pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle while license suspended Judge L E Plummer set a 100 dollar fine plus 12 dollars costs Scheidecker was arrested near Clarksville April 28 1963 Charles Edward Penticoff 21 of Parkersburg pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated first offense Judge Plummer set the fine at 300 dollars plus 12 dollars costs Fenticoff was arrested by Parkersburg Marshal Kenneth Cook on March 3 1963 Both men paid their fines and costs.
Michael Witwer two year old son of Mr and Mrs Dick Witwer sustained a fractured right leg above the knee when a metal cabinet fell on him Sunday. He was admitted to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City with the leg placed in traction and will remain in the hospital about four weeks.
Walter Behnke has returned to his East Greene home after spending several weeks at the Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City recovering from a fractured hip.
Robert Mad returned home Saturday from Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City after treatment since Wednesday for a broken right heel sustained in an accident at his home.
Firefighters answered a Sunday call to the Otto Landers residence southwest of Greene about 6:00 PM to extinguish a fire in the north chimney. The blaze was in the chimney’s lower section before the upper portion became blocked.
The Ramblerettes finished second in a three‑team meet at Plainfield with Plainfield first at 64 percent points and Greene second at 56. Fredericksburg trailed. Ken Sutton praised Stuntz for tying a state record in the 60 yard low hurdles while Kara Allison set a 220 yard dash mark in 27.1 seconds. The squad advances to the district meet at Wellsburg Friday, with events including the 440 medley, 440 relay, and various field events. Barbara Ray led in the softball throw and discus, while Pam Drazlle and Barbara Barth posted multiple high finishes. The meet served as prep for the state meet, with Wellsburg set to begin at 7:00 p.m.

Charles Hurd returned from Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City and is recuperating at the home of his son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Galen Schuknecht.
The State Conservation Commission sets May 11 as the opening date for walleye and sauger north of Highway 30 and northern pike statewide. The season runs to February 15, 1964, with daily limits five walleye and ten sauger combined, and three northern pike. Frogs open May 11 to November 20 with daily limits four dozen frogs and one dozen bullfrogs. Possession limits follow: eight dozen frogs and one dozen bullfrogs.
The Greene Women’s City Bowling Association will hold its annual meeting next Wednesday evening May 15 at 7 30 at Greene Lanes. All members are urged to attend.
The Greene Merchants' base ball team will have practice Sunday, May 12, at 2 p.m. at the local diamond. All interested persons are to come out for practice. The Cedar Valley League was formed with teams Allison, Denver, Tripoli, Janesville, Beaklyn and Greene. Sumner and Fredericksburg may enter.
A stag supper will be held at the Country Club next Tuesday evening May 14, with the Rockford group in charge.
Greene Fire Department responded Thursday at 10 45 a m to a fire in the storeroom upstairs of the Dick Witwer home owned by Mr and Mrs George Sneed. The blaze gutted the upstairs and caused smoke and water damage on the first floor. The Withers lost clothing bedding and furniture and now reside in the upstairs of the William Nixt home. Insurance covered the loss.
William J. Ramker of Greene retired after 29 years at the Oliver Corporation in Charles City where he worked as a machinist and check room man. He commuted from Greene daily, traveling over 200000 miles. On his last day colleagues gave him a Longines watch and a purse of money.
Five local Scouts—Philip Mead Steven Mead John Mead Steven D Barnett and Gary Rattler—received Eagle ranks at a Greene Troop 26 and Post 26 Court of Honor held Friday at the Elementary School Auditorium. Ceremony included family pinning of badges, notes from national leaders, and staff from Winnebago Council.
Laurie Jo Steere and Brenda Lee Schafer were baptized during Sunday worship. Laurie’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Leon Steere with sponsors Lee Steere Ruby Johnson and Brendan’s sponsors Mary Lou Levanhagen and Harold Worley.
Mr and Mrs Howard Edler of Sheffield welcomed a son named Michael Scott born April 19 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City. The infant weighed 8 pounds 7 ounces.
In Special Exercise Private First Cross Charles R Naumann a Military policeman in the 3th Infantry Division at Fort Carson Colorado takes part in the Coulee Crest exercise in Washington State. He is the son of Mr and Mrs William Naumann. This exercise will engage 44000 troops and is the Northwest's largest peacetime maneuver and the longest live fire exercise involving Army and Air Force personnel.
Mr and Mrs Claire Curtis win a seven day vacation at Leech Lake Minnesota from Farmers Casualty Company. The prize goes yearly to the twenty agents selling the most insurance for the firm. New era are BCRlvre.
