Ten area Baptist churches plan a Senior Banquet at the Boyd Community Building Shell Rock on Tuesday May 7 at 630 PM. The event honors high school seniors with a program including songs a Senior Prophecy and a message by Rev Gordon Shipp of Eldora First Baptist. Meals prepared by Horton Baptist Church ladies and served by Shell Rock First Baptist Church.

The April Cub Scout pack meeting at the elementary school featured a science themed program by Wolf Den No. 2. Vern Gard presented a film on Planets and Constellations and explained it. Awards were given to Douglas Miller, Dennis Walker, Roger Stock, Anthony Gard, Randy DeVries, Paul Alexander, Rickie Adams, and Larry Lester with various arrows and a wolf badge. Wolf Den No. 2 earned Den of the Month and served refreshments. Den mothers were Mrs. Vern Gard and Mrs. Andrew Reid.
Clarence A Shirer 61 died of a heart attack at his Chicago home on Thursday April 18. A former Greene and Allison resident and deputy county treasurer, he was survived by sons William of Belmond and Robert of Omaha. Funeral services were held Saturday at the United Church of Christ in Allison with burial in Allison Cemetery.
The Greene Ramblers beat Rockford 6 to 3 in the Corn Bowl Conference Baseball Tournament opener played last Wednesday afternoon. Greene's offense produced four first inning runs and a fifth via walks and timely hits. Myer pitched well conceding three hits, two homers by Wood and De Buler. Rain and wet balls hindered pitching. Fischer and Myers each had two base hits. Second round rescheduled after sectional tournaments.
Philip Pooley son of Mr and Mrs Dwight Pooley is one of 181 students awarded a general scholarship for fall 1963 at Iowa State University in Ames. The scholarship goes to freshmen entering in September after high school graduation or transfers from other colleges. Winners were chosen from nearly 700 applicants.
Mrs Gladys Miller is discharged from University Hospital in Iowa City and now resides with her sister-in-law Mrs Fern T Lambert at 2715 High Street Des Moines. She spent several weeks as a patient for treatment and surgery.
The State Conservation Commission will bring its Traveling Wildlife Exhibit to Greene on Thursday May 2 as part of a tour visiting Butler County schools. The display features live mammals birds fish and reptiles native to Iowa and showcases notable species such as raccoon fox squirrel skunk badger deer quail geese pheasant northern pike bass catfish snakes and turtles. Since 1948 the exhibit has toured Iowa reaching about 300000 people annually.

The Greene High School music department presents a final concert this evening in the high school auditorium. The 70 voice mixed chorus and Girls Glee Club directed by Glenda Landsgaard join the 72 piece Concert Band under Ray Holtz. Rep numbers include pieces by the Glee Club, Mixed Chorus, Girls Trio and Quartet, Boys Quartet, and a Band program featuring marches and overtures. The public is invited to attend.

The Boy Scout Court of Honor will be held next Friday evening May 3 at 8 00 at the Elementary School Auditorium. Advancements will be presented to Greene Scouts and Explorers for tenderfoot through life, with merit badges awarded. The Eagle rank will be awarded to Gary Battler Philip Mead John Mead and Steven Barnett. All scouts parents leaders and friends are invited.

Butler County 4 H delegates, two boys and two girls plus C Dean Johnson, will travel to Thomasville Georgia for a week long visit June 23 30 staying with 4 H members. A Thomas County group will visit Butler County July 14 20. Selection occurs in early May after applications.
Greene resident Max Heidenwirth was one of four Agrico Fertilizer salesmen honored at a Club Iowa dinner in Charles City last Wednesday evening. Heidenwirth received the plaque for outstanding sales and service of Agrico products since 1951, presented by Jens Nielsen, the territorial representative of the American Chemical Company.
Mr and Mrs Leo Fish of Plainfield announce the birth of a daughter on Monday April 29 at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. The baby weighs 8 pounds 2 ounces and is named Lisa Renee. Mrs Fish is the former Evelyn Hingery of Greene.
Hospitalman third class Larry Williamson left Sunday evening for Norfolk after two weeks with his mother Mrs Leora Williamson. He will report for duty aboard the aircraft carrier Independence which will head for Cuban waters.
The annual cribbage tournament at Round Grove Golf and Country Club Sunday afternoon drew 76 entrants from Bristow, Marshalltown, Ackley, Mason City, Hudson, Rockford, Waverly, Charles City, Cedar Falls, Waterloo, Garwin and Greene. William Rogers of Mason City won singles with 1189, Cedar Falls took the five-man team with 5760, and Esther Rieken with Harry Siemens of Ackley won doubles.
