The Greene Ramblers lost to Mason City Newman High School 73 to 65 in a track dual last week. Wendell Stuntz double winner with 117 ft 5 in discus and 25.2 in 220 yd dash plus mile medley leg. Jim Shultz won the mile and ran on two relays. Steve Nildebrand took 440 yd dash and ran on two relays. Gary Debner contributed three relay wins and the high jump at 5 ft 6 in. Other placers included Dan Eimers in two mile, Bruce Litterer in high jump and long jump, Jong Jump in low hurdles, Jerry Shultz in multiple relays, Steve Van Dyke in shot and discus, Rod Truitt in pole vault, Marvy McBurney in high hurdles, Howard Brinkman in 440/long distance, John Shultz and Dennis Ratcher in 28 yd open run. Ramblers also at Iowa Falls Tuesday and district meet at Blairsburg Friday May 9, with regular season ending May 13 at Rockford.
Butler County towns contributed 522.85 to the March of Dimes in the recent campaign. IOOF Lodge of Shell Rock added 74.00, bringing their long aid to over 900.00. Mrs. William Schneiderman of Allison thanked all contributors for the support.
The Greene High School Concert Band, 72 players plus six chaperones and Director Ray Holtz, earned a sixth consecutive Division I rating at the state contest in Britt held last Saturday. Selections included Mount of Might by Eric Osterling and Prelude Overature by Jules Massenet arranged by Lucien Caillier. Judges praised the band's preparation and interpretation.

Greene Church hosts area Church of Christ mens groups for a family night on Friday May 9 at 7 30 pm The theme centers on the work of women in the church A mystery speaker will discuss If I was a Woman in the Church By One Who is Not Refreshments follow and the public is invited.
Goodwill Industries of Waterloo will bring a collection truck to Greene on May 14 to pick up discarded clothing and household items. Residents should leave donations at the Methodist Church before May 14 to aid disabled residents in the area. For more information call Mrs. R. O. Menken.
Herman Faber as chairman announces Buck Night on Thursday May 15 as a community fund and party participation event. Precinct committees organize blocks and workers will call between 6 and 8 p m. Mike Campbell of Parkersburg named Buck Night Chairman for Butler County.
The Greene Jaycees hold a dinner meeting tonight at 7:00 p.m. in El-Bar Lanes. Officers will be elected and a report on the State Jaycee Convention will be presented by attendees.
Wartburg College will offer a wide summer term lineup in arts sciences and mathematics under Director Dr C Robert Larson. Arts include painting music literature children's theatre and an interdisciplinary arts survey while science and math cover biology physiology conservation chemistry genetics evolution algebra trigonometry and sets statistics. Expanded offerings in education English history foreign languages and speech are planned with in service teachers and other students in mind.

The Greene Woman's Club launches a beauty drive with local businesses placing Redwood flower boxes before store windows. The club will fill the boxes with black dirt on Monday May 12 at 8:30 a.m. Businesses should submit orders promptly to participate.
Jeffrey Kramer, son of Mr and Mrs Gerald Kramer of Dumont, died after diving into the West Fork River and breaking his neck. He was a senior at Dumont High School. Funeral services were set for Thursday at the Reform Church in Dumont.
Mr and Mrs Richard Adelmund welcome daughter Robin Dea born Sunday April 27 weighing 9 pounds 7 ounces. She has a two year old sister Rashelle. Grandparents are Mrs Henry Adelmund Greene and Mr and Mrs Jennings Wordes Clarksville. Great grandfather is Mr Will Wordes Clarksville.
Grassley notes Iowa's General Assembly backed a resolution urging Congress to propose a constitutional amendment or a national convention to allow a state to base one house of its legislature on nonpopulation criteria. He cites Dirksen amendment goals, uncertainties of ratification, and predicts hurdles may render the move symbolic while defending state sovereignty in apportionment. Charles E. Sp/4 Robert H. Kanter of Greene is stationed at Camp Humphrey near Pyong'teok as a radio repairman traveling to seven artillery bases. He graduated January 31 from Fort Monmouth Army Signal School New Jersey and took a thirty day leave with relatives before leaving March 31 for South Korea. The Ramblers defeated Fredericksburg 7 to 0 as Greene and pitching duo Jerry Shultz and Dick Stuntz limited the opposition to a single hit apiece. Shultz walked and Brunsma tripled in three in the third, with Stuntz adding late scoring support as defensively the Ramblers turned two double plays.
Greene Community Schools junior high students present the two act operetta On the Range in the high school gym on May 14 at 8:00 p m directed by Harold Blosser. The Wayback Tech College graduates travel to the Grand Canyon Arizona with chaperons Ezra Spinks and Miss Lee. The cast features Barbara Brinkman Robbin Helm Bobby McGee Rosanne Needham and others portraying cowboys and Indians in a suspenseful amusing tale.
The Ramblers and Ramblerettes defeated Rockford on the local course April 30. Boys 174 to Rockford 183. girls 220 to Rockford 236. The Greene Jaycees earned the Bob Cronk Award at the State Jaycee Convention in Waterloo April 25 27 with local president Jim Menken receiving the honor from state president Gene Maddox. Other Greene members Gordie Menken and Norm Graven attended as Region II members led by a new state president Roger Poppen. The chapter joined 78 of 234 Jaycee chapters to win the award, after Region II led Parade of Regions. Local services included gifts to Vietnam servicemen, building a highway rest area, and several projects such as Olympic Torch 68 and the Halloween Parade.
Clinton Lockwood was transported by ambulance on Saturday to Floyd County Memorial Hospital where he remains a patient under treatment and observation.
Don Severson, newly appointed Iowa Personnel and Guidance Association chairman, names G. E. Stephenson, local high school counselor, as state chairman of the Membership Development Committee for 1969 1970. Stephenson took the post at the state convention in Des Moines May 2 3, to develop materials and policies to boost association membership.
State Senator Vernon Kyhl reports Senate action on Senate file 665 a Republican election reform bill expanding residency rules candidate qualifications voter registration and pay raises for election workers. The Senate also passed a resolution urging a Constitutional Convention and approved a $91.4 million annual appropriation for state universities plus migrant housing and Medicaid fixes. Next week a truck fee bill awaits House approval and review of reciprocity issues by transit trucks.
Greene Community Schools held an open house for grandparents on May 1 with nearly one hundred attending from Decorah Riceville Belmond Charles City New Hampton Shell Rock Hampton Dougherty Allison Aredale Bristow Marble Rock Clarksville and Greene. Grandparents toured the kindergarten, viewed student work, and enjoyed a program of songs poems a May pole dance and rhythm band followed by refreshments served by Room Mothers and Future Teachers from the high school assisting with activities.
