The editor marks next Sunday as a special day to honor mothers for their selfless work and enduring love. It extols a mother as a diplomat with Solomon like wisdom and Hercules like energy, urging readers to celebrate her and carry kindness beyond the day.
Children’s pictures will be taken at Greene City Hall on Saturday May 8 by a Waltz Studio representative. Parents may call Mrs. Ervin Uhlenhopp at 823 4483 to schedule 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. sessions. No charge for photos and no obligation to buy prints. Recorder notes no sale connection and will run photos as a community interest feature.
A record number of walleye eggs are hatching at the remodeled Clear Lake Fish Hatchery as more eggs are collected. Well over 50 million eggs are being hatched to offset losses from the flood-stricken Lansing facility. Most fry will be stocked in rivers and lakes next spring, with remaining fry reared to a larger size for fall stocking. Northern pike are also being hatched at Spirit Lake and Clear Lake, and limitedly at Lansing. Observers are welcome to visit the hatcheries.
Butler County lists new registrations for Harm Muller of Ackley driving a Chevrolet and Dale Hassman of Parkersburg with an I H truck. Others include Ross Plumbing and Heating of Greene with an I H truck and Roger Heeren of Allison with a Chevrolet. Irving Van Raden of Greene with a Ford truck and Greene Rendering Inc with a Chevrolet truck. Ivan Lindaman of Aplington with a Plymouth and Gabe Hamilton Implement of Greene with a GMC truck.
The Greene Lanes women's team finished third at the State Lutheran Bowling tournament at Maple Lanes in Waterloo. They totaled 2,757 with handicap. individual scores: Barbara Stock 542 Dorothy Fischer 498 Betty Markle 497 Irene Rover 482 and Betty Steere 468.
J Burdette Hardy 71 died unexpectedly at home Monday evening from a cerebral hemorrhage. Born March 14 1894 in Iowa City, he was WWI veteran and a charter member of Tack Barnett Post 268 Greene. Survived by wife Ruth two sons a daughter ten grandchildren and several siblings. Funeral Thursday 2 pm First Presbyterian Church with Rev G F Butler. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery. Reid Funeral Chapel in charge.
The staff includes Miss Ema Moehl Wartburg College English instructor and Mr Robert Van Dyne Elsworth Junior College. Mr Gene Olson Greene teaches field biology with 1 2 openings. Mr Peter Brown Cranbrook Academy of Art Bloomfield Hills MI leads art. Donald Harmon Aplington to teach mathematics.
John McWhirter of Allison, county savings bonds chairman, said Iowa sales of Series E and H bonds in March totaled 10,240,549, lifting the three month state total to 33,654,458 or 29 percent of its 1965 goal. Butler county March sales reached 351,884, bringing first quarter to 203,856 for 24 percent of the quota. The Iowa chairman noted the state ranks second in the nation for quota attainment after three months.
Ronald D. Slocum of Greene was fined $25 and $4 costs with $1,500 suspended for disturbing the peace by a car. Stanley Kutin of Hudson paid $10 and $4 costs for entering a through highway without stopping. Dale E. Poppe of Greene paid $10 and $4 costs for speeding. Mrs. Charles Reams of Marble Rock paid $25 and $4 costs for failing to stop for a school bus with extended stop arm.
Early Butler County History recounts Georgetown once laid out in 1857 south of Allison with 48 blocks and a central park. It notes streets, lot sizes, ownership by John M Harper, survey by William L Miller, and 15 lots sold or transferred. The piece traces the Central Iowa Stock Farm era under R A Babbage, H L Stout and I M Fisher, ending with farm sale in 1891.
Funeral services were held for John Harm Eggena age 55 at Reid's Funeral Chapel Greene with Rev J Devnes officiating. Son of Harm and nee Daniels he died last Thursday near Greene after living on a farm northwest of Greene. Survivors include wife Gertrude four daughters Linda at home and others. Burial followed at Riverside Cemetery Rochford.
Greene Community High School Concert B earned a Division I rating at the State Music Contest in Charles City, marking a second straight Division I award in Class B for Greers. The band of 65 students performed Rhythm of Winds and North Sea Overture, selections chosen by the ensemble.
Robby Tarr, grandson of Greene, will undergo ear surgery at Memorial Hospital Friday morning. The 10-year-old Waterloo resident is the son of Joe Wood and part of a family linked to Greene. The article notes a local farming and horse-raising heritage, including famous horses from the Lexington area and a Deer Park on a North farm.
Grassley argues the Senate approved a vocational and technical education bill for Iowa. He says post high school training should be state funded from the general fund, not property taxes. He notes current higher education financing and favors a separate board to oversee vocational education, away from the Department of Public Instruction.

Ramblers defeated Rockwell 7 to 1 on Monday in sectional play. A stag supper is planned at Round Grove Golf and Country Club on Tuesday evening May 1st with committee members J McWhirter K Drakle W Larson WN McKinley D Walker G Martzahn D Bauman D Everds M Dougherty D Barnhart M Bellows J Allan and C Burma listed.
Greene Ramblers lost to Waverly 3 to 0 in the sectional tournament at Allison. Mark Ott pitched superbly with no earned runs allowed on 5 hits, 10 strikeouts, and no walks yet his team offered little support as Waverly scored all three runs in the ninth. Box score notes credit Ott and Waverly’s Cain with strong pitching. The Ramblers bounced back to beat Rockwell 7 to 1 behind Ott and Merfeld in a two inning interlude before Lynn Gebe and others finished. The team hosts Rockford today and plays at Dumont next Monday.
The Spring Musical Revue will be held at the high school auditorium on Tuesday evening May 1 starting at 7 45. The revue is planned and directed by the music students. The program includes folk songs contemporary solos jazz pieces and modern ballads. Tickets will be sold at the door for public attendance.

Each person aboard must have a Coast Guard approved device.
Eldred E Kingery RM3 will take a 20 day leave after attending a Teletype event in Norfolk Virginia. He and family visited relatives in Boone and Allison during the period before returning to his ship the USS Tallahatchie County near Nantes.
Russell Mesers was elected Elder at a special meeting after the worship service at the Presbyterian Church. He will fill the unexpired term of the late Vivian Kingery.
Mr and Mrs Erwin Oltmann Cedar Falls welcomed a son born April 26 at Sartori Hospital Cedar Falls. The 9 pound 10 ounce infant is named Ross Teuane. Grandparents are Fred Feldman Nashua and John Oltmann Allison and Betty Feldman the former. Ross has two brothers Jeffrey and Kent at home.
The Rambler golf team beat Rockford by 11 strokes at Try Club and later by 30 strokes in another match. Scores featured John McRoberts 42 and 43, Steve Barnett 49 and 47, Jim Truitt 48, Gordon Sneed 32, Bruce Fisener 33, with Rockford led by D Abbott 47 and D Jones 48. Upcoming: Ramblers face Riceville May 6, sectional at Sumner May 10, and host Riceville May 11.
LeRoy Taylor was discharged Friday from Fieyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital in Charles City after treatment for a heart condition. He is resting at home with family and will follow up with his doctors.
