James Gravens To Tour Europe

Mr. and Mrs. James Graven with 140 Iowa attorneys and families begin a three and a half week tour of Europe sponsored by the Town Bar Association. They fly nonstop from Chicago to London and return nonstop from Paris to Chicago visiting England Germany Switzerland Austria Italy and France. They are due home May 23.

Instrumentalists Rated in Greene High School Contest

Greene high school instrumental department released state solo-ensemble ratings from Nashua last Saturday. Eleven ensembles entered. eight earned Division 1. Three soloists, Marcellyn Curtis Mark Ott Marilyn Walker, earned Division 1. Division 1 ensembles include flute quartet and trio, clarinet and saxophone quartets, woodwind quintet, drum ensemble, woodwind choir and brass choir with many named performers. Division II ensembles were flute trio trumpet quintet and miscellaneous woodwind group.

Ramblers Beat Allison 9 to 4 In Sectional Opener

Greene Ramblers won their third straight, 9 to 4 over host Allison Trojans as Ott and Gabe pitched a five hitter. Greene took a 1 0 lead with hits from Ott and Barth, added runs on doubles by Clapham Barth and Ruffridge, and racked up two more in the fifth. Allison scored twice in the first, with remaining runs coming on errors and passed balls. Box by innings shows Greene 9 9 10 2. Allison 4 5 3. Weather permitting, Greene faces Waverly-Shell Rock in the first round at Allison at 2:00.

Steve Barnett Receives Air Force Academy Appointment

Steve Barnett aged 18, son of Mrs. Iva Barnett, has been offered appointment to the United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs. The appointment comes from Congressman I R Gross after a completed entrance examination. Gross had two vacancies to fill at the Academy.

Butler County TB Association Holds Spring Meeting

The Butler County Tuberculosis and Health Association held its spring meeting at a Parkersburg cafe with 34 attendees at a 6:30 dinner. Dr David S Howell spoke on Tuberculosis In Animals, with Dr W D Yoder joining to answer questions and show slides from the National Animal Disease Laboratory Research Service at Acres. An award was given to Mrs John Healf for district seal sale work, and the Mantoux test will be administered to Butler County students and staff in fall 1965. The executive committee includes M Burien Sprole president, Mrs Kenneth Shear vice president, Mrs Henry Klkwart secretary, Mrs Frank Green treasurer, and others.

Board Sets School Days for Late May to Early June

The Board of Education met April 26 1965 to decide makeup days for missed school this year. It was agreed no classes on May 31 for Memorial Day, with school held June 1 2 3 and 4. Seniors attend May 24 25. graduation remains at 8 pm. Absence policies apply during makeup days and a waiver request to the State Department is ordered for any unmade up days.

The Butler County Soil Conservation District organized its new board at a Tuesday evening meeting on April 20. Bernard Wyele of Clarksville was elected chairman and Arthur Lovrien of Clarksville was appointed assistant commissioner. Other members are Adam Schwab of Shell Rock and John Kilahsen of Aplington, with Melvin Dreier of Dumont and Walter Wilke of Bristow serving as assistant commissioners for the next two years.

Ten Named to Honor Society at Local High School

Ten high school students have been chosen as members of the Les Studieux chapter of the local high school National Honor Society. Eligibility requires a cumulative 3.0 GPA and 3.2 in the most recent semester. Veterans Hospital patient list and military medical updates

In Des Moines Merle Heckman of Greene is receiving treatment at the Veterans Hospital. He will stay for several weeks. LeRoy Taylor was taken Thursday to a county veterans hospital in Charles City for heart treatment. Mr and Mrs Kenneth Stewart learned their son Pp. F. C. Roger Stewart, stationed at Adair Air Base in Corvallis Oregon, is hospitalised at Fort Lewis Washington for a broken nose from an injury two weeks ago.
