Sen Burroughs Newsletter Tour Of Experimental Coal Mine
A bi-partisan group toured the State experimental coal mine near Oskaloosa. Funds were appropriated two years ago amid objections by the former Democrat floor leader. The project uses new strip mining techniques with heavy machinery, stockpiled top soil, and ongoing archaeological and mining research. Drainage and topography will improve and the prior unsightly effects eliminated. The effort has drawn nationwide attention from federal mining officials.
