Art Exhibit at Wartburg College opens April 4

The Cedar Valley Art Association hosts its second annual exhibit at Wartburg College in Waverly with a reception for artists in the Student Memorial Union. Open daily 8:00 am to 10:00 pm through April, featuring sculpture, ceramics, and oils from Bremer Butler County artists led by Walter Kahler. A traveling exhibit from the Old Bergen Art Guild of Bayonne, New Jersey, runs in the Fine Arts Center 2:00 to 5:00 pm daily through April 20.

Hahn Soils Speaker At Floyd County Dinner

Grover H. Hahn, Extension Director at Iowa State University, is the featured speaker at the Floyd County Soil Conservation District biennial dinner and election at the First Methodist Church in Charles City on Thursday April 1 at 7:00 p.m. He recently completed a 23 month U S State Department assignment in Ethiopia at the emperor Haile Selassie's request to aid livestock industry. Colored slides on soil and water conservation and livestock will be shown along with African culture exhibits.

Rites Held for Vivian Kingery 62

Vivian Kingery 62 died at his Greene home after months of illness. Born February 24, 1903 in Greene to Amos and Jennie Kingery he married Ila Stirm September 4, 1926 at the Little Brown Church Nashua. He lived near Greene most of his life, farmed, worked for Farm Service Co op, later for Farmer's Elevator. He served as elder at First Presbyterian, was Greene mayor for years, and on city council six years. Survivors include his wife, two sons Lloyd of Tripoli and Roland of Houston, 14 grandchildren, four brothers and four sisters. Funeral March 29 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. G. F. Butler. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery. Reid's Funeral Chapel.

Jane Witwer Wins Top Rating in State Speech Contest

Jane Witwer, a Greene High School senior, earned a Division One rating with her dramatic declamation From Flies at the state speech contest held in Thornton on Friday March 26. She was the sole Greene entrant and will receive a gold pin. Miss Charlene Everson judged humorous declamation entrants in Thornton with a three person panel per entrant.

LeAnn Wilken Returns to University Hospital Iowa City

LeAnn Wilken daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Wilken was readmitted to University Hospital in Iowa City yesterday for treatment over the next two weeks. She will be in room 337 on the third floor and welcomes messages from classmates and friends.

Plans Set for 222 Annual Fun Night at High School Gym

Plans for the 222nd annual Fun Night at the high school gym detail a 7:00 p.m. start with a basketball bout between Greene Commercial Club members and Ken Sutton’s Ramblerettes, plus a faculty versus boys volleyball match. A halftime Cub Scout basketball contest and an exhibition by Norm Mielke’s tumbling class are on the program. Proceeds go to new basketball suits for the team.

Kindergarten Round Up Friday April 19 Greene School

The Greene Community School will hold its annual kindergarten round up at the Elementary Building on Friday April 9 for the 1965-66 year. To register, each child must be five by September 15, bring a birth certificate, and attend in two shifts by last name initials. A book rental of 4.00 and a milk fee of 0.90 per semester or 1.80 per year are due.

Greene High Senior Class Plans Minneapolis Trip

The Greene High School senior class of sixty five will travel by train to Minneapolis Friday morning at 4 27 a m arriving about 8 40 a m. Chaperones include Mr and Mrs Dougherty Muhlenbruck Nichol and Supt and Mrs V J Tatum. Activities cover Ford Plant visits Southdale Shopping Center and airport sightsees with a cinerama showing. Open House at Butler County Special Education Unit

The Butler County Board of Education invites the public to an open house for the new Butler County Special Education Unit in Allison, west of the high school. About twenty five students are enrolled. Butler County Bonds Hit 18.7 Percent of Quota

John McWhirter of Allison, county savings bonds chairman, reported February sales of Series E and H bonds in Butler county totaling 53,021 dollars. This gives a two month total of 151,972 dollars, 18 percent of the 1963 goal. Iowa sales reached 9,588,073 dollars in February, raising the two month total to 23,413,904 dollars for 21 percent of the 1965 quota.
