Mrs Frieda Rover of Greene underwent surgery last Wednesday morning at Mercy Hospital in Hampton.
The Cub Scouts announce a joint March and April Pack Meeting set for Wednesday evening April 28 at 7 30 at the elementary school. Cancellations and school activity rescheduling led to the date change due to conflicts.
The Cedar Valley Art Association hosts its second annual exhibit at Wartburg College in Waverly with a reception for artists in the Student Memorial Union. Open daily 8:00 am to 10:00 pm through April, featuring sculpture, ceramics, and oils from Bremer Butler County artists led by Walter Kahler. A traveling exhibit from the Old Bergen Art Guild of Bayonne, New Jersey, runs in the Fine Arts Center 2:00 to 5:00 pm daily through April 20.
Grover H. Hahn, Extension Director at Iowa State University, is the featured speaker at the Floyd County Soil Conservation District biennial dinner and election at the First Methodist Church in Charles City on Thursday April 1 at 7:00 p.m. He recently completed a 23 month U S State Department assignment in Ethiopia at the emperor Haile Selassie's request to aid livestock industry. Colored slides on soil and water conservation and livestock will be shown along with African culture exhibits.
Vivian Kingery 62 died at his Greene home after months of illness. Born February 24, 1903 in Greene to Amos and Jennie Kingery he married Ila Stirm September 4, 1926 at the Little Brown Church Nashua. He lived near Greene most of his life, farmed, worked for Farm Service Co op, later for Farmer's Elevator. He served as elder at First Presbyterian, was Greene mayor for years, and on city council six years. Survivors include his wife, two sons Lloyd of Tripoli and Roland of Houston, 14 grandchildren, four brothers and four sisters. Funeral March 29 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. G. F. Butler. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery. Reid's Funeral Chapel.
Jane Witwer, a Greene High School senior, earned a Division One rating with her dramatic declamation From Flies at the state speech contest held in Thornton on Friday March 26. She was the sole Greene entrant and will receive a gold pin. Miss Charlene Everson judged humorous declamation entrants in Thornton with a three person panel per entrant.
LeAnn Wilken daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Wilken was readmitted to University Hospital in Iowa City yesterday for treatment over the next two weeks. She will be in room 337 on the third floor and welcomes messages from classmates and friends.
The American Field Service Chapter of Greene seeks a Greene family to host a foreign student for the 1965-1966 school year. Interested families should contact Mrs. C. E. Burroughs, Mrs. Vern Rottler, Mrs. James Drake, or Mrs. James Graven.
The American Cancer Society will conduct their April fund drive with Greene county divisions and captains coordinating volunteers. Southwest captained by Mrs. David Markle with Walter Kyle Eunice Schmidtke L. F. Bachman and Hoton Bellows.
Plans for the 222nd annual Fun Night at the high school gym detail a 7:00 p.m. start with a basketball bout between Greene Commercial Club members and Ken Sutton’s Ramblerettes, plus a faculty versus boys volleyball match. A halftime Cub Scout basketball contest and an exhibition by Norm Mielke’s tumbling class are on the program. Proceeds go to new basketball suits for the team.
The Greene Community School will hold its annual kindergarten round up at the Elementary Building on Friday April 9 for the 1965-66 year. To register, each child must be five by September 15, bring a birth certificate, and attend in two shifts by last name initials. A book rental of 4.00 and a milk fee of 0.90 per semester or 1.80 per year are due.
Abnormal March weather disrupts Fisheries Commission plans delaying trout census and stocking. Officials report snow blocked roads hindering operations, with streams and hatcheries showing slowed activity. Spirit Lake, Clear Lake, and nearby hatcheries note fish reactions to the weather as the commission notes hoped for pre-spinning activity in late March was not yet realized.
In case of flooding the Cace and Senior Girl Scouts will serve lunches to workers and evacuees. Headquarters will be set up in the Klassi Afoto building. Leaders to be contacted include Mrs James Drake Mr William Astor Mrs DenseBurney or Mrs Vernon Rottler.
Three boys from the Comm Bowl Conference earned honorable mention on the all state boys basketball team. Included were Jerry Fischer of Greene a forward Brad Perau of St Ansgar a center and Jerry Kline of St Ansgar a guard.
John H. Meek came home from Ford County Memorial Hospital in Charles City after a three week stay for heart condition treatment.
The Greene High School senior class of sixty five will travel by train to Minneapolis Friday morning at 4 27 a m arriving about 8 40 a m. Chaperones include Mr and Mrs Dougherty Muhlenbruck Nichol and Supt and Mrs V J Tatum. Activities cover Ford Plant visits Southdale Shopping Center and airport sightsees with a cinerama showing. Return is Saturday at 3 30 p m arriving Greene at 7 30 p m. They stay at the Curtis Hotel.
Mr and Mrs Gary Krull of Allison welcomed a daughter named Lesa Marie born Friday March 26 at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City. The infant weighed 6 pounds 15 ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs J Edwin Marten and Mr and Mrs George Krull.
The Butler County Board of Education invites the public to an open house for the new Butler County Special Education Unit in Allison, west of the high school. About twenty five students are enrolled. The event is hosted with the Butler County Association for Retarded Children and featuring Dr Wilbur Thomas, Mrs Clara Doms, Mrs Sue Jorsensen, and Mr David McMillan who will demonstrate facilities and explain the program.
Greene officials form emergency committees to manage potential flooding from Mason City runoff. John Hamilton attends Operation Runoff on KGLO matters. Coordinators organize evacuations, sandbagging, food and lodging, school student help, and boat/vehicle teams with public updates via radio and Channel 3.
Jevi Ackart attended the Seventieth Annual Convention of the Iowa Independent Telephone Association held Tuesday and Wednesday at Hotel Fort Des Moines in Des Moines. Over 845 delegates from 275 Independent Telephone Companies in Iowa were welcomed by President L. E. Travis of Newton Tuesday morning.
Stanley L. Senne son of Hugo C. and Mrs Senne Route 2 Greene Iowa completed a five week fixed wing technical inspector course at the Army Transportation School Fort Eustis Virginia on March 29 The 19 year old entered the Army in July 1963 and did basic training at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri He is a 1963 Greene Community High School graduate.

A week of services at Calvary Baptist Church Greene runs from Sunday April 4 to Sunday April 7. Rev James Shields and wife conduct nightly sessions at 7 30 p m except Saturday with short messages for children using object lessons and flannelgraph. Shields previously led Vacation Bible School in 1962 and is with Baptist Mid Missions Cleveland Ohio. He will speak at the 11 o’clock Sunday service. Public invitation extended.
The first stag supper of the season at Round Grove Golf and Country Club is postponed from Tuesday April 6 to Tuesday evening April 13. The board of directors will host the opening event.
A representative of the Social Security Administration District Office in Waterloo will visit Allison Court House on April 7 14 and 28 from 9:00 to 11:00. Call Waterloo district office at 284 1554. The office is in room 702 of the Black Hawk Building at W 4th and Commercial Streets.
John McWhirter of Allison, county savings bonds chairman, reported February sales of Series E and H bonds in Butler county totaling 53,021 dollars. This gives a two month total of 151,972 dollars, 18 percent of the 1963 goal. Iowa sales reached 9,588,073 dollars in February, raising the two month total to 23,413,904 dollars for 21 percent of the 1965 quota.
