James Gregory Spoke to Woman's Club Meeting Tuesday

Conservation officer James Gregory of Butler and Franklin counties talked at the Wo man’s Club gathering in the high school auditorium on March 16. He urged wise use of national resources to sustain wildlife and heritage, noting Yellowstone’s 1,000,910 acres, no grazing in national forests, and the bald eagle’s range from Florida to Ontario. He showed films on conservation, including The Bald Eagle and To Conserve Our Heritage, highlighting forest destruction, soil loss, and watershed protection through contour plowing and reforestation. Refreshments followed.

Fifth Team All-State Honor for Pam Dralle on Ramblerettes

Pam Dralle daughter of Mr and Mrs James Dralle earned a spot on the fifth team of the 1965 girls all state basketball selections. The Ramblerettes guard, a senior, helped her undefeated Corn Bowl Conference team. Honorary mention went to Marge Marsh daughter of Mr and Mrs Ralph Marsh as a Ramblerette forward.

Eldred Mathers Enjoys Hawaiian Island Tour Return

Eldred Mather and his wife and family returned from a trip starting in San Bernardino with Captain Paul D. Mather and Diane to Los Angeles airport where 28 Towans joined a flight to Honolulu for a fifteen day tour of Hawaii. They visited former Greene resident Jacob Stratman while in Honolulu and spent another week in California before driving home.

Rites Today for Marie Thompson

Marie Thompson 89 died at Clark Nursing Home where she had been a patient since December 1 1964. Born August 25 1876 in Palmyra New York she married Edward Thompson June 25 1893 and lived in Greene their entire married life. Survived by daughter Irene and several nieces and nephews. Funeral at Reid's Funeral Chapel Wednesday at 2 with Rev Butler officiating. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery.

Feed Grain Lien up Deadline is Friday

Friday March 26 is the last day for growers to file applications for the 1965 feed grain program. Butler county ASC chairman Herman Stubbe said participation provides price support for 1965 corn, barley, and grain sorghum and earns a diversion payment for shifting part of the feed grain base to conserving use. Minimum diversion is 20 percent, maximum 30 percent or 25 acres. County interest is high and likely to match 1964 participation.

Embargo on County Blacktop Roads Over Weight Limits

Butler County Engineers announce weather damaged roads and a county wide embargo of eight tons on several blacktops. Routes from Greene west and east, Clarksville to Hishwar No 218, New Hartford to Butler Center Road, Shell Rock to Highway 11, Aplington to Highway 3, and Kesley to Highway 14 are restricted. The embargo lasts until May 15 unless lifted earlier.
