A memo to investigators jokes about unidentified objects above treetops while recalling calls to keep kids and hotrods off highways.
St Peter's Lutheran bowling team from Greene won the handicap team event at the Lutheran Bowling tournament held in Waterloo in March. Team members include Mrs. Robert Kock, Mrs. John Backer, Mrs. Harry Backer, Fern Clark and Joyce Bliss.
Elsie Doore age 88 died at her son Lawrence home in San Diego on Tuesday March 22. Born September 12 1879 in Coldwater near Dougherty she married Ray Doore in 1897. Survivors include son Dale of Des Moines. Funeral in San Diego with burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Greene. Rev Wayne Gierde officiated. Service at Reid's Funeral Chapel preceded the burial.
Gary Rottler a Farm Operations junior at Iowa State University in Ames was chosen as president of the Agricultural Council the main student sounding board for the College of Agriculture. The 32 member council includes department club leaders and a student body representative. Rottler also serves Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Zeta honors and co chairs several campus activities.
David Fischer Tom Needham Marvin McBurney Lynn Nelson Douglas Jorges Todd Woodley and Rosann McBurney will be confirmed at Palm Sunday services April 3 at the Methodist Church. Morning worship begins at 10 45 a m.
The Iowa Development Commission and the Iowa Conservation Commission will hold a one night Community Planning and Development Institute in Fayette on April 13 1966. Mayors councilmen city clerks planning commission members park boards and chamber of commerce secretaries from within 50 miles are invited. The program focuses on Recreation and Tourism and provides practical tools for local development. Attendance is free and materials are provided. Officials from Greene and Clarksville will also be invited.
The River City Men's Chorus from Mason City will perform at Greene high school auditorium on Thursday evening April 14 at 8:00. Sponsored by the Senior Girl Scouts of Greene, the family friendly show features members from Mason City and nearby towns including Calvin Kelly of Greene. Tickets are available from Senior Girl Scouts or at Maxson Cleaners.
In Hospital Norman Graven was taken to St. Josephs Mercy Hospital in Mason City Friday for treatment of a protruding disc.
Charles H. Percy, 46, a leading American businessman, will headline the Iowa Republican Party dinner at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Des Moines on April 16. A former president of Bell and Howell, he recently resigned as chairman and CEO to focus on his Senate campaign. Tickets at Republican officials in Iowa counties.
A Social Security Administration district representative will visit Allison Court House on April 6, 13, and 27 from 9:00 to 11:30 am. The Waterloo district office is in room 702 of the Black Hawk Building at W Fourth and Commercial Streets. Call 234-1554 for details.
Four men were inducted on March 1, 1966 from Butler County: Kenton R. Stoddard Shell Rock, Terry A Thomason Greene, Darwin L. Bienemann Clarksville, and Thuran E. Brookman Parkersburg. The latter enlisted after U S Army induction for three years. Seven men went to Des Moines March 10 for pre induction exams. Harry Backer Greene was appointed to the Butler County Selective Service Board, filling Harold Poppen Allison's vacancy.
Mr and Mrs Steve Brandt of Allison welcome Amy Jo born March 23 at Mercy Hospital Waverly weighing 7 lb 3 oz. The mother is Marcelle Meyers daughter of Russell Meyers of Greene. Garold Lorenzen and wife of Webster City celebrate Cindy Rae born March 24 weighing 6 lb 3 oz. Grandparents are Raymond Lorenzen of Webster City and Earl Ruffridge of Greene.
Russell Hummel of Allison was reelected president of the Butler County Geof Producer's Association at the annual meeting and banquet held Tuesday evening March 22 at Shell Rock. About 250 attended. Earl Gibson of Shell Rock was chosen secretary treasurer for the coming year. Directors elected were Marvin Bruns from the northwest district and Burdette Johnson from the southeast district. Carryover directors are Vern Poppen and Robert Ostercamp from northeast and southwest districts. Speaker was Orion Samuelson of WGN Chicago who urged a positive attitude among farmers. Price fessing contest winners included David Mulder Earl Garrison Donald Harris J C Winker S B Holt kamp Don Roose Verle Barth George Oldenburger Vernon Bierman Irvin Willeke and Warren Ebling.
A group of twenty four young people will be taken into membership at St. Peter's Lutheran Church on Palm Sunday, April, by the rite of Confirmation. Those to be confirmed include James Schafer, Margaret Neal, Debra Scott, Marjorie Brinkman, Steven Meyer, Marcia Steere, Kathy Shultz, Tom Brunner, Janea Fischer, Ramona Steere, Carol Rigasins, Steven Wunsch, Annette Bogegess and Alan Wefel. Also Janice Landers, Gary Debner, Deborah Landers, Gary Johnson, Melinda Dralle, Sharon Poppe, Glenna Wagner, Joan Majewski, Jeanne Hildebrand and Linda Loomer.
Miss Iowa Janis Mieras will appear at B and W Super Market in Greene on Friday April 1 between 1 and 2 pm. She will model the Kaynar Diamonds collection featuring a white gold tiara valued at 5000 a 2000 engagement ring a 1000 diamond pendant a 675 wrist watch a 475 cocktail ring and 350 earrings. She is Iowa's Miss America Pageant representative May 13 in Miami Florida. Her parents are Mr and Mrs Faye Mieras of Alta and she attends South Dakota University Vermillion. A diamond pendant door prize will be given and visitors may register.
New resident Mr and Mrs Richard Jacobs announce the birth of a son on Wednesday March 23 at Floyd County Veterans Hospital Charles City. The infant weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces and is named David Richard. He has a sister Melinda Ann at home. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Bill Jacobs Greene and Mr and Mrs Percy Rose berry Waterloo.
Mrs. Dean Uhlenhopp of Allison underwent surgery at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester Minnesota on Monday.

Greene Junior Chamber of Commerce reports about 140 dollars in profit from the Jaycee Street Sale held Saturday. The group also notes roughly 300 dollars profit from the donkey ball game on March 15 to be used for Perrin Park shelter house construction.
The last story hour of the season will be on April 9 at Greene Public Library. Easter poems and stories will be featured.
A 16 hour Civil Defense Monitor Course runs March 22 to April 14 in Greene Community High School science room with 25 Floyd County residents from Charles City Marble Rock Rudd and Rockford enrolled. Instructor C E Burroughs leads two hour sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays to train reading and maintenance of geiger counters and survey meters for atomic attack readiness. Floyd County Civil Defense Director James McNeilus invites anyone interested to contact the Charles City Civil Defense office for future offerings.

NIAD Study Committees will gather Wednesday evening March 30 at 7 30 p m in the Extension Office Charles City to plan hosting the NIAD CHALLENGE series. The five part program about NIADs people problems and progress will be run by Iowa State University Extension Service starting April 14 at the Charles City Senior High School. Floyd County will host four meetings with leaders from Butler and Mitchell counties. About fifty people from each county are expected.
Hanna Vandervoort, 84, died at 4:00 this morning at Clark Rest Home in Greene. She came to the rest home from Charles City three and a half years ago. Survivors include a son Frank Hibner of Charles City and a brother in Canada. Reid's Funeral Chapel to handle arrangements.
The Greene Commercial Club held a banquet at the elementary school auditorium last Tuesday with seventy attendees. Paul Franzenburg, treasurer of the State of Town, spoke on the state expansion program and details of European and Orient trips. The next meeting is Wednesday, April 14, to discuss summer promotions.
Honorable Mention Wen oe He Sns ike and Honorable Mention ds2arve BArMeil and Jerry Fischer, center and guard respectively on the Rambler basketball team, were named to the all state honorable mention team.
Levi pene of the United Telephone Company attended the seventy first annual convention of the Towa Independent Telephone Association in Des Moines on Tuesday and Wednesday. More than 900 delegates from Towa's 250 independent telephone companies were welcomed to the event.
Butler County ASCS reports new county aerial photographs flown in October 1965 to aid 1966 feed grain measurement. About 64 percent of farmers participated in 1965, with 964 farms measured. Separately Colonel Bowles announces College Qualification Test dates May 14 May 21 and June 3 1966 for deferment consideration, requiring registration and college enrollment status.
County Extension Director Kay A. Connelly announces a Wednesday April 6 meeting at 1:30 p.m. in the Allison Extension office. Speaker Dr. Neil E. Hart of Iowa State University will cover property transfer objectives death with or without a will federal and Iowa taxes gift tax estate settlement costs and tools for estate planning.
A follow-up meeting for the Butler County Market Hog Show will be held this Thursday March 31 at 7 30 p m at the Amvet Building in Allison. Colored slides of the top 20 hogs in the live show and the top 20 carcasses will be shown and compared. Evaluation sheets for all carcass entries will be passed out and discussed. Exhibitors and anyone interested in quality pork production are invited. The show and meeting are co sponsored by Bauman Live stock and the Butler County Swine Producer's Association.
Nine directors will be elected for the newly created Area Vocational School District designated as Merged Area Education VII. The Waterloo location covers parts of Black Hawk Bremer Buchanan Butler Chickasaw Grundy and Tama Counties. Nomination papers require 50 signatures and must be filed with the Black Hawk County Superintendent between forty-five and twenty days before May 19 1966.
