William L. Birkholz, son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Zurcher of Greene, earned the U S Air Force Commendation Medal at Wright Patterson AFB Ohio for timely and competent meteorological work. A former Charles City resident, he served as staff meteorologist from November 1965 to March 1966 and entered the Air Force in 1951. He is married to Arlene Zurcher and they have two children, Debra and Gregory, residing at 904 Adams St Fairborn Ohio.
Steven Van Dyke, son of Mr and Mrs Henry Van Dyke, is under observation and treatment at the University Hospital in Iowa City. Mrs Van Dyke accompanies him in Iowa City. Address listed as 5th Floor South General Hospital Iowa City Iowa.
Specialist Four Nile Myers has returned from Viet Nam and is spending a 30 day furlough with his mother Mrs. Cleland Myers in Bristow. He served a year with the First Infantry and the final months as a security guard with special troops at the air base near Saigon.
Thomas Jefferson Wagoner born August 31 1889 in Dar ling Missouri died March 15 in Salem Oregon. He studied at Grand Rapids veterinary college and worked in Greene Dumont and Waverly communities and for the U S Department of Agriculture in Salem. Survivors include daughter Helen Shepard Salem two grandchildren and two brothers. Funeral services were held March 17 by Ainsworth Lodge Salem with burial at Belcrest Memorial Park.
Elroy Sylvester Latch 47 of Rural Route 3 Charles City died Monday at Floyd County Memorial Hospital after illness since fall. Born October 31 1919 in Goodell he married Helen Boller July 3 1940. Funeral Friday 10 am at Immaculate Conception Church with Msgr. John J. Smith. Burial Calvary Cemetery. Rosary Thursday 8 pm at Hauser Funeral Home. Survivors include wife daughter son granddaughter two brothers and one sister.
Mr and Mrs Dean Allen of Minneapolis welcomed a son named David Dean on March 23 weighing 6 pounds 6 ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Melvin Riggins of Greene and Mr and Mrs John Allen of Minneapolis, with great Grandparents Mr and Mrs Otto Schafer and Mrs Augusta Riggins of Greene.

Airman Merlyn L. Whiteside of Clarksville has been selected for liquid fuel systems specialist training at Amarillo AFB Texas after basic training at Lackland AFB Texas. A 1964 Greene Community High School graduate, he studied at Ellsworth College and earned an associate degree in 1966 from Mason City Junior College. He is stationed at Amarillo AFB with serial AF 16895636.
Mr and Mrs armer Hurd have returned from a three and a half month vacation in Brownsville Texas. Friends from Aredale Greene Allison Bristow and Dumont visited them there. They also visited Mrs Will Walbaum in Durant Oklahoma and her cousins.
The Greene Commercial Club will hold a dinner meeting at the elementary school on Thursday evening, April 6. Tickets have been mailed to members and they should confirm reservations by return mail to J. T. Truitt. Entertainment will be provided by the Panics, a barber shop quartet from Mason City.
Guy Olson attended the American Personnel and Guidance Association annual convention in Dallas the week of March 19 23 1967. Olson, Guidance Coordinator in Butler Franklin County Schools, toured themes Frontiers of Self Social Reorientation Frontiers of Communications Frontiers in the Arts and Frontiers in Space and honored Astronaut Charles Duke with an APGA Award. The program covered counseling studies rehabilitation employment testing evaluation disadvantaged college personnel cross cultural and international topics.
Mrs. J Howard Geddes 59 of Hampton died unexpectedly Friday night at Franklin General Hospital Hampton where she had been a patient since Thursday She was librarian and taught science at Greene Elementary School Survivors include her husband and three sons David Mason City Mark Hampton and Donald Wheaton Illinois Funeral services were held Monday at 1 00 pm at the Methodist Church in Hampton Burial followed in a Hampton cemetery
Mr and Mrs Rollo Fisher of Waterloo announce the adoption of a month old baby girl named Dianna Lea. A two year old brother David welcomes her home. Story Hour at the Greene Public Library will be held on Saturday afternoons, April 1 and April 8, with Easter stories presented at the March 25 pre Easter session. It will be discontinued until next fall and children received treats.

Rambler basketball forward Lynn Gabe earned honorable mention on the All State team. The recognition highlights Gabe from the Rambler squad for notable play during the season.
The Greene Fire Department responded to Orin Noel’s farm around 10:15 last evening to extinguish a fire in a wagon loaded with baled hay. Investigators believe a grinder spark started the blaze late in the afternoon. The wagon and hay were destroyed and the barn paint scorched after an explosion discovered by the Noels.

The Board of Education schedules two open meetings on April 5 and April 7 at 8 p m in the high school gym to present the building bond proposal. The annual County Further Education Day will be held at Allison-Bristow High School on April 6 1967 from 9 00 am to 1130 am. Students will meet representatives from Town four year colleges area junior colleges vocational schools nursing beauty and barber schools and select trade schools.
