William L. Birkholz, son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Zurcher of Greene, earned the U S Air Force Commendation Medal at Wright Patterson AFB Ohio for timely and competent meteorological work. A former Charles City resident, he served as staff meteorologist from November 1965 to March 1966 and entered the Air Force in 1951. Homecoming for Viet Nam Veteran Nile Myers

Specialist Four Nile Myers has returned from Viet Nam and is spending a 30 day furlough with his mother Mrs. Cleland Myers in Bristow. He served a year with the First Infantry and the final months as a security guard with special troops at the air base near Saigon.

Former Veterinarian Dr. Thomas Wagoner Died in Oregon

Thomas Jefferson Wagoner born August 31 1889 in Dar ling Missouri died March 15 in Salem Oregon. He studied at Grand Rapids veterinary college and worked in Greene Dumont and Waverly communities and for the U S Department of Agriculture in Salem. Survivors include daughter Helen Shepard Salem two grandchildren and two brothers. Funeral services were held March 17 by Ainsworth Lodge Salem with burial at Belcrest Memorial Park.

Fire at Noel Farm Destroys Wagon and Hay Bales

The Greene Fire Department responded to Orin Noel’s farm around 10:15 last evening to extinguish a fire in a wagon loaded with baled hay. Investigators believe a grinder spark started the blaze late in the afternoon. The wagon and hay were destroyed and the barn paint scorched after an explosion discovered by the Noels.

Further Education Day Set For April 6 At Allison-Bristow High

The annual County Further Education Day will be held at Allison-Bristow High School on April 6 1967 from 9 00 am to 1130 am.
