Dogs Shine At Cedar Rapids Kennel Club Show

At Hawk Eye Downs Cedar Rapids the Shultz and Truitt families attended the Cedar Rapids Kennel Club dog show. Mrs. Shultz won blue ribbons with Shultz's Iowana Queen in bred by exhibitors bitches and novice bitches. Rodney Truitt earned a blue ribbon for Warle's Flag in novice conformation and placed second in junior showmanship among 25 entries. Jim Truitt, student at the University of Iowa, joined family in Cedar Rapids to view the event.

March of Dimes Drive Underway in Butler County

The 29th annual March of Dimes fund raising drive is being conducted in Butler County. Mrs. Troward Raisty is chairman for the Greene area. Mailers will be sent out this week and residents are asked to return them promptly. The dimes and dollars help to treat birth defects and arthritic cases, in addition to the treatment of polio patients.

N. F. O. Members Held Meeting on Milk Action

Over 160 members from Butler Floyd Cerro Gordo and Franklyn counties gathered at Greene elementary school to discuss the milk holding action. Clarence Schuchmann of Hawk Eye, Iowa NFO president and dairy farmer, led the session. Members described dumping hundreds of pounds of milk to press for higher prices while milk and homemade ice cream were served at the close.

Corn Conference for Butler Bremer Farmers Monday

A corn conference for Butler and Bremer county farmers will be held Monday March 27 at 7 30 P M at the Youth Building on the Waverly Fairgrounds. The Butler and Bremer County Extension Service sponsor the event and will discuss fertilization weed and insect control and weather conditions for the 1967 corn crop. All corn producers are invited to attend.

Head Start Program Approved for Green

The Board of Education approved a summer Head Start program for children entering kindergarten next fall. The district expects approval, with information shared at the kindergarten roundup on March 20. Parents must contact the Superintendent by March 31. transportation is provided and a minimum of 12 children is required to operate.

The Cub Scouts will hold a pack meeting at Greene Elementary School next Wednesday evening March 29 at 6 30. The Wolf Den with Mrs John Van Eschen and Mrs Graydon Anderson as den mothers will run the program.

Local Students Get Easter Vacation

The Greene Community School will be closed for students on March 23 24 and 27. Elementary teachers work on Parent-Teacher Conference while junior senior high faculty attend in service training. Classes resume March 8.

Army rotary tech inspector Senne home visit prior to overseas duty

Visiting Here Spe and Mrs. Stanley Senne and daughter are spending a few days in the home of his parents Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Senne. He entered the service in July 1963, did basic at Fort Leonard Wood and advanced at Fort Rucker and Fort Eustis before serving in Korea 13 months. Senne has been at Fort Benning for two years. After fur lough he reports to Fort Hood and will be sent overseas. Mrs. Senne and daughter will stay in Greene until his return.

Easter Cantata at Allison School Sunday Evening

A community Easter cantata The Mystery of Easter by Lee Rogers will be presented Sunday March 26 at 8 00 oclock in the Allison Bristow school gym. About eighty community members sing under Mrs Emmett Busch with Emory Niehaus at the piano and Mrs Kenneth Stirling at the organ. A free will offering will be taken during the intermission.

Zimmerman and Huisman Have Top Hogs at Market Show Here Saturday

Karl Zimmerman of Aredale entered the champion market hog at the Butler County Market Hog Show in Stanton. His 195 pound crossbred won lightweight class first place, while Gary Huisman of Shell Rock took reserve champion with a 215 pound Yorkshire in heavyweight. Sixty hogs were entered, co-sponsored by Butler County Swine Producers and County Extension Service. Bernard Ebbing of Bath Packing judged the hogs and will present slides of carcasses at a future meeting. Other winners include Carl Kruse third in lightweight and Dar win Niehaus second in heavyweight, among others.

Mrs Pearl Neumann spent a month in Fargo caring for her great grandchildren while their mother Mrs Elmer Bruns was hospitalized. Mrs Ruth Paplow joined for a few days and they traveled home stopping overnight with Mr and Mrs J J Chukker in Worthington Minnesota.

Music Concert At School Tonight

The high school music department presents its annual spring concert this evening at 7 45 in the high school auditorium. The mixed chorus Top Twenty directed by Harold Blosser and the concert band stage band directed by Ray Holtz will perform several numbers including solos by Carolyn Kehoe Larry Tack Janan Smith and Tom Tindall and a senior girls trio. Instrumental solos also featured.

Rites Held for Elden Ellerman

Elden W. Ellerman 51 of Waverly died March 1 after a lingering illness at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital. Born January 5 1916 in Dayton township he married Marian Feeney in July 1939. Survivors include wife parents a son and four daughters. Private funeral was held at Cleveland Chapel with burial Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Memorial services followed at St Pauls Lutheran Church.

Panics Quartet to Sing at Greene Commercial Club Banquet

The Panics, a Mason City barber shop quartet, will entertain at a Greene Commercial Club banquet on Thursday evening April 6 at 6 30 p m at the elementary school. They placed in the top ten in a seven state district contest and perform with the River City Chorus. Dr J T Truitt mailed tickets to Commercial Club members this week and asks for replies by week’s end. All members and spouses are urged to attend with new businessmen and their wives as guests.

American Legion District Conference At Reinbeck

The Third Iowa District of the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary hold a one day Spring Conference in Reinbeck on April 1. Mail Carriers Awarded Pins For Safe Driving

Jaycee Survey Shows Community Athletics Perceived Adequate

The Jaycee survey cites 246 respondents who feel school athletics are not overemphasized while 70 think they are. 90 want more activities for youths outside school and 77 of 157 with children say teens need a larger facility near the library. Adult education interests include drama, furniture repair, stocks and bonds, typing, vocations, and foreign language.

District Court Convenes in April With Trial Jurors

Butler County District Court opens its April 1967 term on April 5 with Judge L. E. Plummer presiding. Trial jurors will report April 24 at 10:00 A M.
