The Church of Christ announces a special resurrection service on Sunday evening April 2 at 7 30 pm. Michael Alexander and Mace Bammann lead a responsive reading Because I Live. The Shell Rock River flood swelled past the 1933 high, forcing about 25 Greene families to evacuate as water rose to six inches above the 1933 crest and reached six feet over flood stage. Local crews and volunteers sandbagged businesses and homes while the Red Cross operated emergency headquarters. City officials organized pumps, heat disruption relief, and trucked in sandbags from Cedar Falls to aid containment and recovery efforts.
The Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church near Aredale will screen the feature length film The Power of the Resurrection on Friday March 31 at 730 pm. The portrayal covers Peter’s life under the influence of Christ’s resurrection and the Holy Spirit as part of Union Services week with local churches participating.

The board of Investors Mutual Inc has declared a quarterly dividend of 9 cents per share payable March 24, 1961 to shareholders of record March 23, 1961. The distribution comes from undistributed net investment income. This marks the 82nd consecutive dividend. Shares outstanding total about 152,850,000 versus 143,200,000 a year earlier.
Track coach Norman Wolters reports 60 boys out for track this spring with seven returning lettermen Gary King Steve Rotiler Dennis Wunsch Larry Blum Paul Burroughs Tom Green and Ronald Taylor among the group. Sophomores show promise as field events and relay positions are open for strong competition. Scheduled meets include April 1 indoor at Iowa City April 22 T C Relays April 29 Comet Relays May 20 district meet at Ames with Corn Bowl Conference duals and triangular meets not yet set. Ramblers move to Class A this year after previous B classification.
Mr and Mrs Larry Frerichs of Allison welcomed a son born Friday March 24 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City weighing 7 pounds 8 ounces named Brit Jon.
Karl Kleinschmidt will close out his farm near Greene on Thursday April 6 starting at 11 30 a m with C F Prange of Charles City as auctioneer. The sale will be conducted at the farm east of Greene.
Ronald Lee Hurd of Greene was fined $500 and $4.00 costs on a charge of driving with four people in the front seat and a no muffler violation in Mayor Kelly's Court.
Brian Myers, an Airman Apprentice, has returned to San Diego from a 14 day leave spent with his parents Mr and Mrs Cleland Myers. He will be stationed on the U S Lexington.
Red Cross officials announce that all residents with flood damage earlier this week should visit Dralle Department Store to obtain and submit the necessary Red Cross assistance forms. A case worker will follow up within one to two weeks after forms are filed.
Flooded residents are urged to follow safety tips to prevent waterborne disease. Boil all drinking water from wells or springs for at least two minutes before use. Disinfect wells with a chlorine solution such as chlorinated lime or household bleach, and flush the system to remove dirty water.
The Parent Teachers Association will meet in the new elementary school auditorium on Wednesday evening April 5 at 8 30 o clock. Miss Glenda Sands Laard will direct the musical program. The gathering is set for April 5 at 7 00 p m in the Farm Bureau Auditorium Allison. Topics include site selection variety selection garden lay out and planting and transplanting. 4 H members are asked to bring record books and seed catalogs. Members and leaders are welcome.
Greene Produce opens Saturday April 1 to operate under Iowa Falls Poultry and Egg Company, in Iowa Falls since 1935, with Ray Schwab of Hampton as manager. Open house at the plant will offer coffee and nuts. Clarence Skillen returned home Friday from a seven week vacation in Zephyrhills and Bradenton, Florida, joining Mrs Skillen and Norma of Greene after attending the Iowa picnic at Hillsborough Park with Paul Flora.

Sergeant Donald F Danker USAF recruiting officer at Lafayette Indiana received notice from Major H W O Dell USAF commander that Daiker has a permanent Hall of Fame record for outstanding recruiting. His detachment logged 14 male recruits this fiscal year. Daiker is son of Merle Daiker Greene and nephew of Blair Mottet. He has served in the Air Force 13 years and spent 17 months in rotation.
Paul Wunsch placed first with a 1198 score at the cribbage tournament held Sunday afternoon at the Country Club in Waverly. A total of 106 players registered, with Greene participants including Royal Hardman Stanley Pond Ted Thorpe Jack L. Shultz and the Swants and Shultzes.
