Winnebago Council prepares to honor Cub Scout Packs with the National Summertime Pack Award for planning June July and August activities. Packs must have at least 50 percent attendance to receive a full color certificate and den ribbons. Themes include Backyard Adventure Cub Motors and Summer Theater.
County records show hunting fishing and trapping licenses in the year totaled 14 642 50 with 4 567 licenses sold through the recorder and 27 depots. Nonresident hunters paid 1036 for 58 licenses, residents bought 1 756 fishing and 1 353 hunting licenses, and 92 trapping licenses were sold to adults while 38 youths bought a trapping license.

Mrs Christine Hampel district Red Cross case worker reported that Butler County Red Cross chapter spent 16866 for Greene flood relief after the first week in March. She announced that the deadline to apply for flood relief has passed.
The high school music department presents a concert on March 24 at 7:45 pm in the school auditorium. Performances include the high school concert band, mixed chorus, and glee club with pieces such as Gallant Boulevedier March and North Sea Overture. The Floyd County Soil Conservation District will hold a biennial dinner and election on April 1 at First Methodist Church in Charles City starting at 7:00 PM. A new commissioner will be elected to replace retiring Don Kruse. Speaker Grover Hahn, Iowa State University Extension Director, will present slides on Ethiopian agriculture. A meeting will be held in the elementary school multi purpose room on Wednesday March 12 at 7 30 p m to discuss the Mathematics program in the elementary school
The Conservation Commission outlines spring fish drops in the Shell Rock river and nearby areas. Planned stockings include 250000 walleye fry below the dam, 50000 northern fry above the dam, 250000 walleye fry for the overflow below Clarksville, and additional walleye drops in Beaver Creek near Parkersburg and the Shell Rock region. All sites will be surveyed before stocking. Greene area includes water stabilization work and a detergent removal effort to improve survival and reproduction of game fish.
Vernon Lee Jenssen of Wellsburg charged with speeding in a restricted zone paid a 2000 dollar fine and 4 dollar costs. Douglas Glass of Greene charged with speeding fined 10 dollars and 4 dollars costs. 500 dollars was suspended on certain conditions.
Conferences at Greene Elementary School are planned for Thursday and Friday March 25 and 26. No school for kindergarten on either day and no school for grades 1 and up on March 26. Parents will receive a mailed card with time and location and some conferences may be scheduled earlier in the week due to large classes. Mrs H Vestal of Union died early Tuesday at her Union home. A former Packard resident, she is survived by two sons and six daughters including Mrs George Franke of Greere and Mrs Glenn Tack of Marble Rock. Funeral services are pending at Union.
Catherine Feyeresen 93 was hospitalized in Floyd County Memorial Hospital Charles City after a fall injury. John Frerich patient at University Hospital Iowa City returned home to Greene from Friday to Monday. John Meek Sr. remains at Floyd County Memorials Hospital Charles City under observation after heart attack.
A few tickets remain for the Butler County Cattle Feeders Banquet and annual meeting led by Vernon Stockdale. The event starts at 6 45 pm in the Boyd Building Shell Rock with talks by Jerry Sotola of Chicago Livestock Commission and Dr Sipe a Parkersburg veterinarian. 1964 Far Calf Scramble winners will be announced and sponsored guests recognized.
The Farm Bureau Women's Bowling team from Greene won the State tournament with 2944 points at Merle Hay Plaza in Des Moines. Teams and scores include Loretta Miller 554, Maxime Hueberger 528, Gertie Marsh 465, Dorothy Fischer 463, Evelyn Behnke 446. doubles winners Loretta Muller and Maxine Hueberger 1327, with Loretta 597 and Maxine 558. Dorothy Frenz and Wanda Veer teamed in the ax bles with 1186, Dorothy 528, Wanda 154.
Lean Wilk, daughter of Mr and Mrs D C Wilken, has returned home Saturday from the University Hospital in Iowa City. She will stay a couple of weeks. Her brother Leland also returned home from Mercy Hospital in Waverly.
Ensign Clare Grendler of the Naval Air Station Pensacola spent one day of leave with his parents Mr and Mrs August Grendlu. The visit highlights family time during military service.
William Seymour Johnson born March 26 1914 in Columbus Ohio died March 13 of heart attack at Floyd County Memorial Hospital Charles City. He lived near Greene most of life except six years near Roch Ford. Survived by wife Helen Stuntz five children Lynne Grossmann Jerry Johnson LaVon Steere Thomas Mane Andrean deceased. Also seven grandchildren, parents, sister Mrs Louis Litterer, brother Clair Johnson. Funeral at First Presbyterian Church with Rev G F Butler. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery. Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge.
Sam Sneed and Elmer Stock of Greene teamed to win the doubles event at the Men's City Bowling Tournament in Hamp ton last week. They rolled a 1379 with handicaps, Elmer posting a 714 scratch and Sam 563. They received doubles trophies, and Elmer earned a high scratch game trophy of 279 and a high series of 714.

The State Services for Crippled Children will hold diagnostic clinics in Charles City on March 31 and Oelwein on April 1. Open to under 21 with chronic or crippling conditions, referrals required. no examination fee. Clinics at First Methodist Church Charles City and First Presbyterian Church Oelwein. Butler County families eligible. Referrals should be sent to the SSCC before the clinics.
To Leave Japan Mr and Mrs Bruce F Maer and son Gary depart Yokohama on March 23 by boat en route to the United States. A one day stop in Hawaii precedes arrival in San Francisco on April 5 where they will spend about thirty days with relatives and friends in Greene and vicinity.
Wednesday action saw the Chevy II Rollers top Albrecht Hatchery and Carnation, while Greene Lanes beat Dean's Radio and TV. High scores included Lloyd Blum with 203 and 202 for 596 and Bob Barth 204, with continued pace noted.
