Pete E Timmer a Greene Community School science teacher attended a two day short course at Iowa State University in Ames on Friday and Saturday March 6 and 7 Tours of the University Ames Laboratory Atomic Energy Commission and National Animal Disease Laboratory were offered Saturday The program was sponsored by the College of Sciences and Humanities with the Iowa Association of Science Teachers and the College of Engineering.
John McWhirter president of the State Bank of Allison received a silver pin from Lions Club president Dr. George F. North at a Lions meeting on March 6 acknowledging a decade of volunteer service as savings bonds chairman for Butler County. The award followed Secretary Douglas Dillon guidance praising volunteers for supporting a sound national economy.
Butler County lists new vehicle registrations including Herman and Kathryn Brocka of Parkersburg on Chevrolet and Clarence Mead of Kesley on Plymouth. Other entries show George Renning of Shell Rock on Ford, Caius Feckers Parkersburg on Ford, Harold Swant Greene on Ford, and Harken Farm Equipment Parkersburg with S. H. truck plus Lyle Barnett Clarksville on Ford.
Butler County Representative Charles E Grassley outlines a conference committee of four House members and four senators as they seek a compromise on reapportionment. The dispute centers on Senate size with a 51 or 56 member plan and House size aimed at 120 to 130, seeking majority approval from both chambers.

Mr and Mrs Clarence Hanson purchase the Gamble Store from Mr and Mrs Russell Meyers. Hanson operated a Ackley produce for ten years and grew up in Nashua with wife Florence Litterer. They have two daughters Ann and Barbara in Greene Community School. Meyers retires after 26 years as Gamble dealer in Greene.
Butler County Mutual Insurance Association joins as sponsor of the telecast of the Iowa boys state high school basketball tournament March 20 21. The FarMutual Network of five stations will air semi finals consolation and final from Veterans Auditorium Des Moines. Stations WOI TV Armes WMT TV KGLO KTIV KTVO will carry the coverage with Frank Snyder as play by play and John Voigt as color commentator.
Butler County farmers have only a few days left to sign up for the 1964 Feed Grain Program. Friday, March 27, is the final date to file an intention with the county ASC committee. Participants may request up to one half of their diversion payment in advance, then divert designated corn acreage to a conserving use while maintaining the conservation use on the farm.

Walter Wilhelm was ordained an Elder in a special Sunday ceremony led by Rev. G F Butler. Ten church Elders assisted, and Wilhelm and Vivian Kingery were installed on the session for three year terms. Other session members include Dale Willey, Floyd Needham, George Hamilton, and Erik Anderson.

Dale Gilman will join the executive staff of the Winnebago Council Boy Scouts of America on April 1, 1964, per Elgin G Enabait and Lea Rowland. He currently serves on Ottumwa Iowa council staff, is a former Cub and Boy Scout, Denver University graduate in Marketing with graduate work, and is married with two children. The family will move to Mason City when housing is arranged.

The Farmers Incorporated Co operative Society held its annual meeting Saturday at 7 pm in the school auditorium with about 275 attendees. Directors elected were Dean Ott Marvin Bruns and Charles Pyatt replacing Verne Thompson Dale Crosby and James Stuntz. Officers are Francis Brinkman president Lyle Stauffer vice president and John J Backer secretary treasurer. The society reported sales of 1 003 882 645 and net savings of 49 003 95 with 39 917 19 allocated as patronage refunds. Guest speaker Mark Buchheit a West Union lawyer showed slides from a recent trip to Russia.
The April 1964 term of Butler County District Court will convene on April 8 with Hon. L. E. Plummer presiding. Trial jurors drawn by the Commission must report April 27 at 10:00 a.m. List by township names jurors from Albion, Beaver, Bennedette, Butler, Coldwater, Dayton, Fremont, Jackson, Madison, Monroe, Pittsford, Shell Rock, and West Point.

Seven original watercolors by Frank Miller editorial cartoonist for The Des Moines Register are on display at Greene Public Library this week. The works, loaned from the Des Moines Register and Tribune Company, appeared as illustrations in the Des Moines Sunday Register’s Picture magazine. Miller, a 1963 Pulitzer Prize winner aged 39, has worked at the Register for ten years and previously served in World War II and the Korean War, producing cartoons for Pacific Stars and Stripes.
Albert Barth, a patient at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester Minnesota, is set to leave the facility this weekend after several weeks of recovery from major surgery and will return home.
Mr and Mrs Arthur Jr Lin dell of Dougherty welcome a baby girl born Monday March 16 at Park Hospital Mason City. The infant weighs 7 pounds 9 ounces and is named Paula Elaine.
Officials announced that popular wildlife plantings from the State Forest Nursery for Wildlife are sold out for the year. Olive, wild grape and red cedar are unavailable. Scotch pine will be available soon due to demand. Other pines and plants like honeysuckle, caragana, Siberian crab, dogwood, and multiflora rose remain in good supply while orders are accepted until stock runs out.
