Rumor says two west side housewives plan a campaign to outshine the Beatles and other acts. They may perform by the river, meditate, and incorporate fishing props to add showmanship. The group could use fish in its act, with names like Catfish Cuties and Carp Shuckers floated as possibilities.
A group of thirteen children were received by confirmation at the Methodist Church on Sunday morning. The new members include Katie Astor Karen Barnhart Lloyd Foster Linda Hauser Larry Jorges Vikki Kaiser Marcia Kelly Linda Lantz John Lantz Mike Maxson Snowden McBurney Susan Shultz and Larry Truitt.
Mr. Jerome McDermott started a civil defense radiological monitoring course at Greene High School on Tuesday evenings at 7:00. Adults in the community are invited to attend. The class was initiated by senior students. He also teaches a radiological monitoring class at Bristow School on Wednesday evenings.
New residents Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Miller of Bristow welcomed twin sons Ted Michael and Ted Mitchel on March 21 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City. Mrs. Miller was Janice Allan of Greene. Also, Don and Mrs. Tindall of Bristow had son Mark Patrick on March 22 at Allen Memorial Waterloo weighing 9 pounds 11 ounces.
James W Beesley 864 died after an extended illness at Clark Nursing Home on March 18. Born December 1, 1877 in Coffeyville Missouri he married Julieta Laige in 1899. Survived by two daughters Alyce Johnson and Ethel Kivell, twelve grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. Funeral at Williams Mortuary with Rev G F Butler and burial at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Winnebago Council outlines plans for the Sixth National Jamboree set to begin July 10. Thirty seven local Scouts will participate with pre Jamboree training scheduled June 26 to 28 at the Winnebago Scout Reservation Marble Rock. A parents and participants meeting is planned for April 21. Scoutmaster is William G Bennett with assistant Alvin K Brown and Marvin Hogan among staff.
James Allen McLennan eight year old son of Mr and Mrs James R McLennan of Greene won the Dr Max Yogi Bear Jellybean Contest by guessing 439 beans in a jar exactly. He shares the top prize with 31 others among 21 340 entrants and will be eligible for one of ten national trips to world capitals with his parents.
Mrs Hezel McNally fell on steps at her home Sunday morning and suffered a badly sprained ankle and foot.
A large crowd watched the Commercial Club’s old boys defeat the Greene Ramblerettes in the opening Fun Night game, then the teachers edged the Ramblers 32 to 36 as Muhlenbruck scored the final basket. Proceeds exceeded $160 for new athletic gear, white suits, and warm-ups.
A Republican county convention will be held at the Butler county courthouse in Allison on Friday April 3 at 10 a.m. to select delegates to the state presidential convention in Des Moines on April 22. The call was made by Herman Faber of Parkersburg, county chairman, and Mrs. Pearl Fischer of Allison, vice chairwoman. Delegates to the county presidential convention were selected in caucuses held throughout the county the past week.
Mr and Mrs Blair Moffett received word from Washington that their nephew Sergeant Donald Daiker was seriously injured in a March 21 car accident in Germany. He has multiple fractures and is hospitalized at Bitburg. Daiker and his family have been in Germany for two years.
The Greene Public High School cafeteria is approved as a fallout shelter with a 300 person capacity after the local school board signed a license. Federal supplies are en route to Greene to equip the shelter. The Dumont Public School cafeteria is also approved and will hold 100 people with ventilation allowing about 280.
A joint Good Friday service of music and meditation is offered at 7 30 p m by the Methodist First Presbyterian and Brethren churches at the Methodist Church. Guest soloists are Mrs Duane Smith and Graydon Anderson. The cantata of the Seven Last Words will be performed by the Methodist choir. The public is invited.
Alyce Blanche Reeve Kanter, 79, died Saturday night March 21 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City after a short illness. Born June 1 1884 in Greene she taught in rural schools and worked at the Shell Rock Valley Telephone Co. before marriage to Newton Earl Kester in 1908. Survived by a son Francis in Juneau Alaska two daughters Leone Minneman in Los Angeles and Betty Kes i Anchorage plus step children and other relatives. Funeral held Tuesday at 2 pm in the Methodist Church Rev Wayne Gjerde officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery with Williams Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Marvin Barth of Allison was released Saturday after surgery performed Friday at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. He is recuperating at home with family support.
The Greene High School senior class organizes a pancake supper on Saturday April 4 to raise funds for their senior trip. The event aims to support students with travel costs and related expenses.
Butler County farmers held 1 312 033 bushels of 1963 crop corn under price support loans and purchase agreements through January 1964. Herman Jubbe, chairman of the Agricultural and Conservation Committee, reported nationwide totals of 164 million bushels of 1963 crop wheat under support as of January 1964, with 353 million for 1962 crop and 287 million for 1961 crop through January 1962. Other 1963 crops under support in Butler County as of January 31, 1964 include soybeans 131,665 bushels and oats 12,272 bushels.
County residents must file nomination papers by April 1 for county offices in the June Primary. April 14 is the deadline for state and national offices. Vernon Larson, county auditor, reports only two filings in Butler County, W. H. Skinner of Clarksville for supervisor district 1 and Veron Shook of Parkersburg for Clerk of Court, both Republicans.
Palm Sunday services welcomed twelve young people into the First Presbyterian Church. New members include Steven Brunsma Lucinda Dix Thomas Dix Malcolm Dix Patrick Janssen Roger Johnson Cheryl Neymeyer Loren Neymeyer Steven Pyatt Lynette Shaffer Jerry Tack and Douglas Walley.

E. L. Raines of Clarksville faced illegal parking charges in front of the fire station and was fined 500 dollars plus 4 dollars in costs and 3.50 dollars for towing. Donn Earl Tindall of Bristow appeared in J. P. Meffett's Court for a stop sign violation and paid a 5 dollar fine and 4 dollars in costs.
The Town legislature has finally passed a temporary reapportionment measure. Gov. Harold Hughes will sign a plan creating a 124 member House and 59 member Senate, increasing the House by 16 and the Senate by none. The legislature meets in extra session after a federal court order to reapportion for 1964 elections. A permanent plan may follow, requiring identical passage in two assemblies and a public vote.
Pam Dralle of Greene is named to the girls all state honorable mention basketball squad as a guard. She is a junior at Greene Community School, daughter of Mr and Mrs Jim Dralle.
Democrats of Coldwater Township meet at Greene City Hall on Monday March 30 at 8 00 p m to conduct business and select delegates to the county convention All Democrats are invited to attend.
Ivan Clikeman was admitted to Charles City last Wednesday evening for treatment of injuries from a tractor accident at his farm. He sustained a dislocated left shoulder and broken ribs when the tractor tipped upside down while chasing an escaped animal.
Donald Duffield underwent major surgery Monday at the University Hospital in Iowa City. He will remain in the hospital for several weeks as he recovers.
A Social Security Administration representative will be in Allison at the Court House on April 1 15 and 29 from 9:00 to 11:00 am. People may call the Waterloo district office in room 702 Black Hawk Building W Fourth Street at 234 1554.

Mrs Bert Pooley returned home Monday from a two months vacation spent with her daughter Persis Pooley at Corpus Christ Texas. While in Texas she visited Judge and Mrs arenry Graven at San Antonio.
About 20 entries already received for the Meat Hog Show to be held at Acison on April 4. Any county farm may enter two market hogs weighing 190 to 240 pounds. Entry blanks available at Bauman Live stock or the County Extension Office. Bernard Ebbing of Bath Packing Company will judge. champion and reserve champion trophies provided by the Butler County Swine Producers Association.
