Susan Shepard a student at the Alison-Bristow Community school has won the Iowa Tuberculosis and Health Association Radio Speaking program. She is invited to present at the association's annual meeting in Des Moines at the Hotel Savery, speaking at the luncheon on April 9 about “Tuberculosis These Are the Facts.” She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Dana Shepard of Allison.
A Civil Defense Adult Education course starts next Wednesday evening March 18 at 7 00 p.m. The fourteen hour program, taught by Mr Jerome McDermott of Greene, is free. Radiological Monitoring will cover handling and use of instruments to detect and measure radiation.
Gene Black of Shell Rock a Liberty County representative of Lutheran Mutual Life Insurance Co of Waverly named Man of the Month for February for the John Groenke Agency of Northeast Iowa. Black cited for outstanding February production and lives written. He and his wife Charlotte and their 6 year old son live in Shell Rock.
Henry Cabot Lodge, the American envoy to Saigon, won the New Hampshire Republican primary as a surprise write-in with 160 of 302 precincts reported. Lodge indicated he has no immediate plans to resign his ambassadorial post as his lead unsettles other candidates for the presidential nomination.
Albert Barth was taken to St Mary's Hospital in Rochester Minnesota early Tuesday morning March 3 for emergency surgery on Wednesday night after a month in hospital for brain surgery. He had returned home the previous Saturday. Hugo Senne underwent surgery Tuesday morning at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City.
Lucina Kehoe 72 died after a brief illness at a Grand Forks hospital. Survived by son La verne Kehoe Greene a daughter Mrs Orville Birkholz Grand Forks and eleven grandchildren. husband preceded her in death. She lived with her son in Greene before joining her daughter in Grand Forks. Funeral Friday March 13 at 10:00 am Sacred Heart Osage. Burial Osage Cemetery.
The Republicans of Coldwater Township will hold a precinct caucus at City Hall in Greene on Tuesday evening March 17 at 8 00. The caucus aims to select delegates for the county convention and all Coldwater Township Republicans are invited to attend.
Mrs Lee Payne a patient at St Josephs Mercy Hospital Mason City since February 28 underwent back surgery there on Tuesday March 10.

During March 8 to 14 Girl Scout Week honors the 52nd birthday of Girl Scouting. North Iowa Council serves 5,384 with Greene area troops spanning Brownie Junior Cadette and Senior levels, led by dedicated volunteers and neighborhood service team coordinating activities and badges.
Corner Dress Shop sponsors a Spring Style Show at the high school auditorium next Wednesday evening. The event begins at 8:00. Ladies and children will model spring fashions, summer clothes, and sportswear with entertainment and door prizes for attendees.

Use tax 1511.31. County 204 newly registered motor vehicles 11678.04.

The Second Annual Iowa Economic Development Conference themed The Future of the Small Community in Iowa will take place at the Memorial Union of Iowa State College on Friday March 20. The one day program opens at 10 00 a m with speakers Lynn A Stiles J Lewis Powel and Governor Harold E Hughes. Two panels cover urban rural development with stories from Sioux Center Crest or and Bluebird Manufacturing featuring Te Paske Knock Harris and Franzenburg. Dr James H Hilton ISU president will preside at the opening.
Floyd County Beef Producers plan a banquet March 19 at 6 30 p m at Club Iowa Charles City featuring Tom Tucker group and slides on the New York World's Fair and Hawaii by United Airlines reps. County plans for a two course summer program coordinating Butler County high schools. The Butler County Superintendent BCS coordinates two advanced classes in Math and English for sophomores and juniors. Enrollment requires a $5 advance registration and $21 tuition with most costs covered by the district.
Junior and Cadette Girl Scouts will sell cookies from March 14 to 21 with orders taken only that week. Delivery and payment occur April 16 to 22. Cookies cost 50 cents per box, with 22.25 cents covering cookie costs. profits fund cookie camp, troop funds, council camp expenses, and Senior Girl Scout events.
Daniel M. Stubbe aviation electronics technician airman of the US Navy, son of Mr and Mrs Herman Stubbe of Greene, graduated February 14 from the Aviation Anti Submarine Warfare School at the Naval Aircraft Technical Training Center in Memphis Tennessee.
The High School Band Girl's Glee Club and Mixed Chorus present a concert this evening at 7 45 in the school auditorium. The 70 piece band is directed by Ray Holtz with selections including Medallion Concert March Hootenanny Valdres Five Mellow Winds. Miss Glenda Landsgaard directs the Glee Club and Mixed Chorus with pieces such as Where Have All The Flowers Gone Bless in Glory Wisdom Hallelujah Amen Gospel Boogie and Soon A Will Be Done.

In a special session battle lines formed over reapportionment as Grassiey’s allies blocked adding five senators to the five most populous counties. Polk County gains a second seat, shifting the senate to 51 members. Final passage passed 34 to 16 as 17 large counties with half the population would elect 35 percent of the chamber.
