Iowa highway funds face major cutbacks in federal aid
Federal highway funds are slashed by 35 percent, amounting to a $27.9 million cut. Iowa officials led by Joseph R. Coupal Jr. seek a review by Washington, warning of delays in $11 million in 1968 obligations and up to $40–50 million in total contracts if deferrals persist. Also notes heavier truck limits proposed by Congress and ADC welfare funding uncertainties. Nuclear plant planned near Cedar Rapids at $100 million, targeted for 1973 operation.
