Verlene Barth of Greene will join Wartburg College Choir on a summer European tour with 62 members. She will sing at ten spring engagements in Iowa Minnesota and Illinois to raise funds. the choir departs New York May 31 and returns July 5 from London with concerts in the Netherlands Germany Denmark and England. Barth is an elementary education sophomore and daughter of Mr and Mrs Verley Barth.
Farmers across farm boundaries can improve drainage waterway building and terracing says Ivan Salmons Work Unit Conservationist. The Marble Rock Legion Hall hosts the program Friday March 13 at 1 00 p m with Harald Taylor of Marble Rock presenting on his water and other locals attending. The event is a cooperative effort of Floyd County Soil District Extension Service and Art Asmussen Marble Rock Co op Elevator manager.
Mr and Mrs J William Bartlett and their daughter Kelly Susan of Baltimore arrived by train Friday after being marooned Wednesday night in Wauterioo. They visit Mrs Bartletts father John Whitehead and relatives in Greene and with his parents in Mason City while Mr Bartlett, stationed with the army in Washington DC, takes a 15 day furlough.

Duane Tracy of rural Nashua was elected president of the Floyd County Dairy Herd Improvement Association at the annual meeting in Charles City. Lawrence Allen of Charles City became director and vice president, Jack Towner of Floyd reelected secretary treasurer, Floyd Meerink named director, with Al Yuska of the American Dairy Association of Iowa as main speaker. Reports on DHIA testing and Brucellosis testing were given, Studt noting county wide Brucellosis testing would start no earlier than September 1959.
The Youth Center will host a Saturday event on March 14 from 7 30 to 10 30 pm Sponsors will be bio present.
The University of Dubuque fifty voice choir will perform at the Greene Community School auditorium on Tuesday evening March 24 at 8 00 o clock. The Apollo Club sponsors the concert. Joyce Miller, daughter of Floyd and Mrs Fiddick of Greene, is a choir member. Kenneth L Nielsen is musical director and conductor. the choir tours Wisconsin Illinois and Iowa.
Paul Ott 69 died suddenly Sunday in Glendale California where he and his wife spent winter. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM at the First Methodist Church Greene with Rev Clayton Becker officiating. Burial will be at the Rese Hill Co cemetery.
The P T A met last Wednesday with a concert by a clarinet choir including Carol Tatum Sandra Clark June Weiland Carol Crosby Vae Brinkman Ada Busse Barbara Taylor Judy Spratt Kay Weigmann and Jim Hoben on various clarinets. The concert band played Busman's Holiday Curtain at Eight Air from J S Bach The Three Billy Goats Gruff and His Honor. Rev Paul Miller of Adel showed Russia slides with commentary. A fourth grade parent committee served refreshments.
The twelfth annual Tumbling Show will be held at Greene High School gymnasium on Friday evening March 13 at 8 00. The program includes tumbling acts stunts trampolining and a Cub Scout basketball contest. Norman Wolters is in charge of the program.
Hugo Holzschuh underwent surgery in a McAllen Texas hospital and has been released to recuperate at home in McAllen. He is described as recovering well from the procedure and is under routine medical care.
Interstate Power Company reports 1958 net income of 3,969,565 up 257,899 from 1957. Net plant additions total 6,270,587 with 149,400 customers served. Electric revenues rose about 18 percent. residential rates averaged 3.18 cents per kWh. Taxes for the year reached 6,031,250, about 3663,267 more than 1957, with operating expenses up 1? percent. The report notes ample reserve power and a peak load of 8 KW, mailed to over 21,000 shareholders and 1,200 employees.
Bill Adams of Greene employed by Greene Farm Equipment and Agriculture Co attended a heating and cooling school last week at Lennox Industries Inc in Marshalltown.
Greene High School Music Department announces the Annual All County Music Festival on Tuesday March 17 at New Hartford High School Gym. Over 100 instrumentalists and 100 vocalists from Greene Allison-R Bristew Dumat Clarksville Shell Rock New Hartford Prsburg and Aplington join guest conductors Dr Myron Russell and Mr Paul Nissen for a day of rehearsals and evening concert featuring marches selections from South Pacific My Fair Lady and American Panorama among others.
Janet Teeple daughter of Mr and Mrs Clarence Teeple enlisted in the Waves and left Des Moines Monday morning for a naval base in Maryland where she will be stationed She had been attending Humboldt Airline School in Minneapolis Minnesota.
Edmund Poppe 65 of Nashua dies about 3:00 am Tuesday after a lingering illness at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City. Survivors include his wife three sons and five daughters including Mrs Caroline Ellis of Greene. Funeral services set for Thursday at 2:00 pm at the Lutheran Church in Washua.
The Veteran's Club announces a Kite Flying Contest with prizes in various classes. Date and venue to be announced. All community children are invited to participate.
The registrar at the University of Dubuque liberal arts college announces Joyce Fiddick Aliler daughter of Floyd R. and Mrs. Fiddick of Greene has been named to the honor roll. The university honor roll includes students with high semester grade averages.
The 53rd annual meeting of Farmers Incorporated Co operative Society stockholders will be held in the high school auditorium on Saturday March 14. Lunch will be served starting at 11 30 am. The business meeting will be at 1 00 pm. Three directors will be elected and C M Gregory manager of Farmers Co operative Company at Duke will be guest speaker showing pictures from his trip to Japan. All stockholders and families invited.
