The Greene teams of Jerry Knight with Kenneth Parks and Bruce Mead with Jerry Backer defeated two rounds at West High School Waterloo in a debate on adopting essential features of British education. Orange Township and Tama were eliminated. Next Saturday March 7 Jan Fletcher and Bruce Mead enter the District Speech Contest at West Union with Jann performing Heat Lightning and Bruce a humorous reading What it was was Football.
Mr Paul Binney a Special Education Supervisor for Bremer Butler and Black Hawk counties spoke on Epilepsy and Education at the February Cedar Falls Chapter meeting of the Council for Exceptional Children. Mrs Wason Speech and Hearing Therapist for Bremer and Butler counties serves as Secretary-Treasurer.
The local Cub Scouts will host two basketball games at Allison School on Friday afternoon.
The annual Blue and Gold Cub Scout banquet was held last Wednesday in the high school gym. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. T. 8. Albrecht and the Gravens, Claire Weiss is Cubmaster, Francis Grendler assistant, with den mothers named. Awards honored Lions and Wolves, new scouts listed, council fire replica presented, and Rev. James Parks gave the benediction.
Norval Mosher Butler County Extension Youth Assistant resigns effective March 1 after three years aiding 4-H activities including soil crop livestock and poultry judging and assisting with club meetings. The Mosher family will move to Liscomb to partner with his father in law. replacement to be filed at earliest date, says Extension Council Chairman Neil Bolin.
Francis William Gardner a 34 year old of Waterloo was injured in a crash on highway 114 214 miles south of Allison Monday at 9 45 am His 1957 Chevrolet station wagon reportedly skidded into an egg truck driven by Willard William Holm 43 of Tripoli Both vehicles were demolished Gardner was taken to St Francis hospital Waterloo with a brain concussion and facial cuts Holm and a truck passenger Fred Brasse were uninjured on an icy road.
Mr and Mrs Howard Bose of Dumas Texas announce the birth of a son on Thursday February 26 weighing 7 pounds named Craig Douglas. The couple also has a son Jon age 3. Mrs Bose is Evelyn Dreier daughter of Mr and Mrs R H Dreier.
About 23 Purina Calves will be shown at Jewell Feed Service on Saturday March 7 at 12 30 pm with an auction to follow. Purina dealers in northeast Iowa donated the calves to FFA and 4 H clubs in their communities, with sale proceeds benefiting the local clubs. Lester Stafford of Versailles Missouri was apprehended in Indianola Iowa on a false drawing and uttering of checks charge brought by Butler County Sheriff Pete Boomgarden. He was returned to Allison Monday to face the charge and bond has not been set yet.
Friends of Mr and Mrs Leon id Schmidt start a fund to help with medical bills for Mrs Schmidt of Pooley farm eleven miles west of Greene. She has undergone one major operation and has another pending. Leonard Jr is their son from Clarksville and Mrs Schmidt is Verna Mehman of Nashua. They have a three percent month old son Bradley. Donations may be left at Greene First State Bank Clarksville Iowa State Bank Plainfield Farmers State Bank Nashua First State Bank.
Greene Community Schools third and fourth graders present operettas on Tuesday night March 10 at 7 30 in the high school gym Narrators include Donald Wunsch Karen Barnhart Marcia Kelly Greg Dralle Karen Jewell Martin Bramer Mary Wolf and Craig Kemming Cast features Douglas Bulfridge Patty Backmann Dick Lindell Larry Eimers Larry Jorges Carl Sneed and Jeff Dralle Tickets are on sale through the third and fourth graders or at the door the evening of the performance.
Raymond Schrody has been released from University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City and will stay at his Elkader home until March 27 for a check up and possible further treatment.
A St Patrick s dance will be held at the Round Grove Golf and Country Club on March 16. All Country Club members are invited to attend.
The Men's City Handicap Bowling Tournament will be held Friday evening and Sunday this weekend and the following weekend. Singles and doubles bowled on Friday and Sunday March 6 and 8, team competition on Saturday and Sunday March 14 and 15. Trophies awarded to first place winners in team, doubles, singles and all events. Approximately 25 percent of entities will receive cash awards.
Mrs. Wiliam Kollman, 70, died at her Orland Park home after a long illness. She married Bert Martin in Greene in 1943, then wed Mr. Kollman in 1944, living in Orland Park and Clarksville, returning to Orland Park in 1952. Survived by her husband, four sisters, one brother, and one brother. Funeral at St. John's Lutheran, Clarksville. Burial in Allison cemetery.
The Drama Club of Minnesota Bible College in Minneapolis will present the play IT Made Christ's Cross at the Church of Christ in Greene Sunday evening March 15 at 7 30 pm. Six students participate three men and three women and an offering will be taken for the drama club.
Mr and Mrs Dean Ott welcomed a daughter born Monday March 2 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City weighing 6 pounds 8 ounces named Carla Lanne. Mr and Mrs Roger Ponto welcomed a son born Sunday March 1 at Cedar Valley weighing pounds 1. auncr.
Lawrence A. Wheeler of Lamont passed away Tuesday February 24 at the Veterans Hospital in Town City. He was admitted two hours before. Survivors include his wife one daughter Mrs William Astor of Greene and five grandchildren. Rites held Friday afternoon February 27 at Lamont.
Greene Community School hosts Vanguard program in the high school auditorium at 9 30 am on Friday March 6. The presentation traces human attempts to reach space using gyroscopes satellite models and a three stage launch model while showcasing Sputnik era apparatus. William Dworzan of the National Capital Astronomers Club leads the lecture with support from Scientific Productions Ltd and University of Minnesota Program Service.
P T A members are urged to attend a Wednesday evening meeting at 8:00 in the high school auditorium.
Mr and Mrs Henry Vralle Ten returned Thursday from a five week vacation in Florida visiting Naples Miami Key West Clearwater and other places of interest.
Mrs Jim Marshall the former Roma Jean Moser has purchased Pat s Clip and Curl and will open for business Monday March th. The shop sits above the Greene Locker Service by the river bridge. Mrs Marshall recently worked at Hollywood Beauty Salon in Mason City. The Marshall family and their son moved to Greene.

High scorers include Galen Miller 201 and Roy Henline 535, while Bristow Elevator set a new high single game at 978 and Miller Real Estate a new high three game series at 2724.

Mr and Mrs John Groothius moved over the weekend to the farm west of town purchased from Edward Deeg. Mr and Mrs John Backer have moved to the farm east of town vacated by the Groothuis.
The Butler County AmVets Auxiliary sponsors an annual magazine subscription drive to raise funds for sick room equipment. They offer free temporary use of portable wheelchairs beds safety rails walkers crutches and other equipment to area residents who are ill disabled or bedfast under Auxiliary supervision.
Marian Anderson, one of America’s greatest singers, will appear in a concert March 24 at Wartburg College in Waverly. She is praised worldwide as an ambassador of good will and has recently sung to an estimated six million people in a major tour across Europe and beyond.
Mr and Mrs D C Marsh returned home Sunday afternoon after a six weeks vacation visiting relatives and friends in Washington and California. They called on Mr and Mrs Bruce Heiser in Port Angeles Washington where Mrs Heiser is a daughter of Mrs Vera Davis of Greene.
The high school faculty defeated the boys 39 to 35 while the Ramblerettes beat a mixed team 59 to 34 in the local gymnasium Friday evening. Funds will finance trips to the state boys and girls tournaments. Emers led the faculty with 12 points and Shook led the high school with 14.
In Hospital Jon Dean v Uhlenhopp, as month old son of Mr and Mrs. Dean Uhlenhopp of Hansell was taken to Park Hospital in Mason City on Saturday morning, where he is undergoing treatment. Mrs. Uhlenhopp is the former Vae Dralle of Greene.
Mr. and Mrs. T. Albrecht visited their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Albrecht, and family at Arvada, Colorado, returning home last week after a few days.
