Greene High School speech students earn 20 Division I ratings

Greene High School speech and drama students directed by Mr. Wayne O Brien earned 20 Division I ratings among 27 entries at the Iowa High School District Individual Speech Contest in Clear Lake on February 28. Open house at Northland offset printing plant

Northland Publishers invites the public to tour its new offset printing plant in Riceville. The Greene Recorder will co host and printers will demonstrate the 3 unit King web press with color capability. Refreshments and a door prize accompany the Sunday event across from the lumber yard.

Women’s Club Convention Planned in Greene

The Ladies Embroidery Club and the Woman’s Club of Greene co host the Butler County Women’s Club convention in Greene on March 31 at United Methodist Church. Coffee from 9 30 to 10 a m. noon luncheon served by the Ladies Embroidery Club. A bicentennial theme runs through the program music and table decor. Ruth Miller county president presides. All Greene club women urged to attend. Reservations called in by March 24.

Cadette Senior Girl Scouts and parents gather for a potluck supper March 17 at 6 30 p m in the Greene High School Cafetorium. Attendees are asked to bring one meat dish and another dish plus table service. Volleyball and bingo follow the meal.

Sula May Lantz rites March 4 at Nashua funeral home

Mrs. Sula Lantz 88 died Thursday March 4 at a Charles City nursing home. Services were held at Chenoweth and Son Funeral Home in Nashua with Rev. Maurice Frevert officiating. Burial in Horton Cemetery. Survived by 3 sons, 2 daughters, 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and a sister. husband predeceased.

Henricks of Bristow owns the champion 250 lb barrow at the Butler Co Spring Market Hog Show judged by Ken Estes. Roger Stauffer shows the 250 lb reserve barrow from Charles City. National Nutrition Week Highlights At North Butler Co Project

March 7 13 marks Natl Nutrition Week. Older adults over 60 risk dropping healthy habits. Greene initiated project in January reports February served 259 unduplicated participants with 81 new. 12 with perfect attendance. Janet Schafer daughter of M and M Gordon Schafer was honored at the annual scholarship recognition tea at Iowa Central Community College Webster City Center. Greene Housing Corp seeks extra funds for elderly housing units

At a recent meeting the Greene Housing Corporation decided to apply for additional funds to construct more elderly housing units. They request interested individuals to visit Greene Insurance Services by the Post Office to fill a housing interest survey, not a binding commitment, to gauge demand for an FHA loan. Persons must be 62 or older and in a low income bracket. If unable to visit, call Greene Insurance Services for a statement.

Greene to shock treat city water in April plan

The Greene city council discussed a tentative April chlorine treatment of the entire water system during a special session. Dates being considered are Fri April 23 at 8:00 PM, Sat April 24 at 8:00 PM, or Sun April 25 at 2:00 PM, with selection based on convenience for most users.
