Iowa Capitol News on Session and Reform Measure
The Iowa legislature resumes after a brief recess amid key issues including congressional redistricting road funds reapportionment and tax actions. The judicial reform constitutional amendment seeks to remove judges from politics and will go to voters in the 1962 June primary. The 59th assembly trails two years ago in bills passed, with about 37 of 52 prior half-session bills enacted and roughly 1,100 bills introduced. Senate and House committees are named with Republicans leading both, while Governor Erbe opposes tax increases and proposes raises for top officials including attorney general and other state officers, though not for himself.
