Rear-end Collision Damages Two Cars East of Marble Rock

Two cars driven by Henry Paul and James Marshall were heavily damaged in a rear end collision two and a half miles east of Marble Rock on Saturday evening. Marshall’s car ended up in a ditch facing opposite direction. Marshall sustained facial cuts and bruises and was treated and released at Cedar Valley Hospital. Mrs. Paul visited Cedar Valley Hospital for examination on Tuesday morning.

Bremer Butler School Boards Unite To Share Superintendent

Bremer County and Butler County boards met in Allison on March 6 to discuss joint county administration under one superintendent. Nominee K R Rowley was proposed to lead both counties with the aim of reducing overall county level costs while keeping offices in each county.

W. H. Bill Springer 82 died March 2 at Dr Ayers Nursing Home Charles City after months of illness. Born July 10 1887 in Butler County he moved to Greene in 1903 and worked as a carpenter. Survived by two sisters Marjorie Springer and Elizabeth Fox of Greene. two brothers and a sister preceded him in death. Funeral at St Mary's Catholic Church officiated by Rev P J Boyle. Burial in St Mary's Cemetery. Hamilton's Funeral Chapel in charge. Relatives and friends attended from Charles City Nashua Dougherty Cedar Falls and Clarksville.

Republican Central Committee Elects New County Chairman

The Butler County Republican Central Committee met in Allison with twenty two of thirty four members present from seventeen precincts. Vernon Kyhl of Parkersburg was elected county chairman, succeeding the late J Francis Allan of Allison. C E Burroughs of Greene was named county chairman of finance. State Rep Charles Grassley, visiting during recess, discussed tax legislation and invited constituent input.

Two Greene men arrested on O M V 1 charge

Two Greene men were arrested by the Highway Patrol late Saturday on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Francis Wilson, 50, and Paul L Wygle, 23, appeared in Justice of Peace Court in Allison. Bonds set at 500 dollars each, posted and they were released. Wilson pleaded guilty Monday before Judge Wild, fined 300 dollars plus 13.50 costs. Wilson was arrested east of Greene on the blacktop. Wygle south of Greene on Highway 14.

Plan Hog Judging Workout At Aaron Jewell Farm

A hog judging workout is set for Saturday March 11 at the Aaron Jewell farm one mile south four miles west and three miles south of Greene. Led by Melvin D. Brown, County Extension Assistant, the session starts at 9:00 am and covers grading and placing of market hogs and breeding gilt selection. Open to all 4-H and FFA members and their fathers.

Trout Hatchery Purchased By State

The Big Spring Trout Hatchery near Elkader in Clayton County was acquired by the State Conservation Commission on March 1. The 10,000 gallon per minute flow provides the largest trout water volume in Iowa, ensuring a primary production station with constant 48 degree water year round. The purchase ends plans for a second Elkader facility and adds 24 rearing ponds for research and management.
