The Saturday afternoon Junior Bowling League held a singles tournament. John Stock won with 462 scratch but gave the trophy to Kenneth Barth, who was second with 421. Other high scorers included Billy Ekwall 388 total, Steve Schroeder 384, Dick Stock 380, and Jim Craile 377 with additional top entries Bob Kanter Billy Walker and John McRoberts.

Interstate Power Company released its 1960 annual report showing net income up by 154,639 from 1959. The firm added 8,126,873 in plant and property during 1960 to support service for more than 153,500 customers, with electric revenues up four percent and residential rates at 3.09 cents per kWh.
The Butler Soil Conservation District will hold its annual meeting in the Farm Bureau Building at Allison on Wednesday March 8. Extension Soil Conservationist Charlie Ballantyne will speak, with slides on Egypt by Bernard Wygle. An election for a 6 year commissioner term will include Bernard Wygle and Adam Schwab. Polls 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. All landowners in Butler County may vote. A free lunch follows at noon courtesy of Folkerts Seed Farms. All interested urged to attend.
The Board of Education plans a five week adult education course on School Finance and Budget Making. The class will be free, limited to 25, conducted by the superintendent, starting late March, with weekly sessions and enrollment by written interest letter. Topics include uniform accounting, machine bookkeeping, activity and lunch accounts, annual audits, and budget development.
Mr and Mrs Harold Allison returned home Sunday after a three week visit to California. They saw their daughter Jane Allison in El Cerrito and relatives Merle Schlager in Oakland Ed Jeffries and family in Paramount and also visited other friends. En route home they toured the Grand Canyon.
Lucinda Dix daughter of Mr and Mrs Minor Dix came home Sunday from Cedar Valley hospital Charles City after emergency appendectomy on February 21. Leslie Barnhart left Mercy hospital Mason City after three weeks of treatment. Walter Detra returned Friday from Cedar Valley hospital Charles City following surgery.
Time Parent Teachers Association will convene this evening at 8:00. The science department will present the program led by Vern Gard, Thomas Jensen and Laverne Kehoe.
Harry George Mehlan 44 died February 21 at his Young America Minnesota home after illness. He taught in Greene High School until last year. Born August 26 1916 in Blue Island Illinois he was a WWII Air Force veteran stationed in France England and Germany. Surviving are his wife Dorothy Mather and three children Judy Ward and Jane. Funeral Friday at First Methodist Greene with burial in Rose Hill cemetery. Hamilton's Funeral Chapel assisted.
Recipients of Old Age Assistance will receive their March warrants late due to changes in Comptrollers office and adjustments in IBM equipment in the State Office. The exact release date is not known.

Jeffrey George Bruns born February 25 weighing 7 pounds 10 ounces to Mr and Mrs Elmer Bruns of Fargo. Julie Ann Biekert born February 28 weighing 6 pounds 3 1/2 ounces to Mr and Mrs Arnold Biekert, Greene.
Baptisms were held Sunday morning at the Presbyterian Church for Michael Scott Witwer, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Witwer. Kathryn Rae Hauskins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Hauskins, was baptized at St. Peter's Lutheran Church with sponsors Mr. and Mrs. Daryl Spheicher.
A two week feed grain acreage survey in Butler county will collect 1959 and 1960 acreages of corn grain sorghum barley and oats from farm operators. ASC representatives will visit farms March 6 1961 with farmer elected committee members assisting. Farmers urged cooperation and to have figures ready or arrange access if away.
Mr. and Mrs. Chris Stewart returned home Thursday after spending ten weeks in California and Texas where they visited relatives.
Town motorists face heavy wildlife losses in March and April as last season's cover wanes. Snow, ice, and wind reduce hiding places, pushing animals toward highway ditches. Spring food is scarce and grain from trucks tempts animals onto roads. Mating season lowers caution. drivers should horn and slow down when wildlife appears.
The Vocational Agriculture department and the Forney Arc Welders will conduct four arc welding sessions on March 6 7 8 and 9. Mr C C Van Deusen and factory reps will demonstrate welding techniques in the farm shop building. Attendees will practice butt lap fillet vertical horizontal and overhead welds including cast iron and hard surfacing. Registration fees cover rods and materials. Advanced registration via Richard Wagoner. Bring pieces to weld and welding helmets if available.
Judy Jacobs daughter of Mr and Mrs P A Jacobs underwent an emergency appendectomy at Cedar Valley hospital in Charles City on Saturday morning.

The Greene Community School has published written school board policies in mimeograph form for district residents. Policies, based on minutes, national and state associations, and peer districts, guide school administration. Copies are available at the secretary’s office or by mail on written request. Changes will be reported in the newspaper for clipping.
In Hospital Patrick Dale McRoberts three week old son of Mr and Mrs Dale McRoberts was admitted to Park Hospital in Mason City on Saturday for treatment.
Ramblers lose 66-56 to Lawler in semi final and 67-59 to Allison in the finals at Denver. Greene led the Ramblers with 18 points as Allison pulled away late. Ramblers finish 14-3. Coach Eimers schedules two week spring practice for underclassmen.
Mr and Mrs William Abell of Dougherty have adopted an infant son weighing seven and a half pounds named David Joseph. The couple also has an adopted daughter, Patricia, and Mrs Abell is the former Mary Staudt, daughter of Mr and Mrs George Staudt.
Mrs Alfred Beguelin and Mrs Ida Peek of Waterloo travel to Denver to attend the Wednesday afternoon funeral of Elmer Higginbottom, a former Greene resident. Mrs Higginbottom was the former Laura Beguelin of Greene.
Mrs. Alice McEwen was admitted to Cedar Valley hospital on Saturday after a fall at the Starr Home in Charles City where she resides. Mrs. Josephine Cole was taken to Cedar Valley hospital in Charles City on Monday evening for treatment.
Mrs. Fred Pelon of Grand Rapids Michigan died Tuesday February 21 funeral held Friday in Grand Rapids She was Rebecca A Harrington daughter of Mr and Mrs Joe Harrington born on Harrington farm west of Greene married Fred Pelon in 1913 She lived in Grand Rapids since Survivors include Morris Pelon and Mrs Esther DeBoer of Grand Rapids and three grandchildren She was cousin of Paul D Shook of Plainfield and Mrs G E Hamilton of Greene

Martin Francis Mullin of Dougherty paid a $5.00 fine and $4.00 costs on a delinquent five day paper dealer plates charge. Gerald Dean Mehmen of Aplington paid a $15.00 fine and $4.00 costs for exceeding the speed limit in Mayor Calvin Kelly's Court last week.
