Final Hearing Set For Curb And Gutter Greene 1957

Final hearing on the proposed curb and gutter project for the town of Greene for 1957 will be held at Town Hall on Friday March 15 at 7 30 p m. Nettleton Undergoes Major Arm Surgery At St Mary's

Gene Nettleton underwent major surgery at St Mary's hospital in Rochester Minnesota on Tuesday morning to reconnect nerves in his arm following a car accident one mile west of Charles City on Highway 14. He sustained a compound fracture above the left elbow and a break below it after hitting ice at 2:30 a.m. December 2 and has had several operations to restore feeling and use of the limb.

Rites Today For Tjarks Infant

The infant son of Mr and Mrs Richard Tjarks named Dean Thomas died Sunday afternoon at Cedar Valley hospital Charles City after born at 8 06 that morning. The navy father in San Diego arrived home Tuesday morning. Survivors include parents one brother and four grandparents. A short prayer service is held at Greene Funeral Chapel with Rev G F Butler officiating followed by burial in Rose Hill Cemetery Babyland.

Edna Rogers to Be Honored Today

In Ames Iowa the Gamma chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta will honor 13 students and faculty at the annual dinner in the Memorial Union. Members must hold at least a B average. the society promotes social problem research for welfare. Edna Rogers, daughter of Mr and Mrs B N Needham of Greene, is among the honorees.

Republican Women Hold Waverly Workshop February 19

Third District Town Council Republican Women held an all day workshop at Carver's Restaurant in Waverly on Tuesday February 19 with representatives from El even of the 14 counties. Officers include Mrs. Fred O Gordon president and several vice presidents secretaries and committee members from towns such as Northwood Conrad Charles City Whitten Allison Cresco Melrose and Gladbrook. Butler county members cited on committees and the group endorsed Enid Robinson Hampton as ambassador to Norway.

Finals of Bowling Tourney Show Winners and Scores

In the Mens Bowling Team Tournament held Sunday February 24 the Friday evening Mixed League team won first with 2825 points. The squad included Carl Heyenga Fred Wedeking Jim McLennan C P Witwer and Elmer Stock. Ackley Grinders took second with 2778 and Miller Real Estate third with 2765 while McLennan Cafe finished fourth with 2742. All events top five were Paul Cheney Adrian Dolan Lyle Shultz Galen Miller and Richard Mikelson with 1764 1753 1751 1739 1734 respectively. This handicap event awarded trophies to all first place winners.

Mrs. Aboul Ela to Speak at Greene Sunday

Mrs. Jean Wygie-Aboul Ela of Alexandria Egypt will guest speak at the 11 o clock morning worship Sunday March 3 at the Greene Presbyterian Church. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Wygie of Clarksville she has lived in Egypt since marriage to Mr. Aboul Ela. Her talk is titled Islam Religion and all English speakers were asked to leave Egypt last fall. Everyone is welcome.

Mrs Daggett to Head Cancer Drive in Butler County

Mrs Horace Daggett of Parkersburg will head the 1957 cancer control campaign for Butler County. She succeeds W A Brandenburg who serves as co chair. Robert C Koempel Iowa campaign chairman praised volunteers and noted April as cancer control month nationwide.

Woman Injured In Ice Fall At Allison

Mrs Minno roiserts of Bris tow slipped on ice in Allison last Friday. She was taken to Lutheran hospital in Hampton and found to have a broken left hip. Mrs Walter Wunsch of Greene is identified as a daughter of Mrs Folkerts.

Former Resident Died in Akron Ohio

George C. Tyler 66 of Akron Ohio died February 9 at Crile General Hospital Cleveland after a long illness. Born December 20, 1890 in Greene he was a World War I Dixie Division veteran. Ramblers Meet Nora Springs in Sectional Tourney

The Greene Ramblers face Nora Springs in the sectional second round at the local gym Thursday February 28 at 8 30 pm. Rockford meets Clarksville in the first game at 7 30. The sectional final is Saturday at 7 36 with the winner facing the Aplington sectional champ Monday March 11 at 7 30. The Rockford Rohawks beat Nashua 65 49 in opening sectional action.

Social Security Agent to Visit Allison Iowa Court House

A Social Security Administration representative will be at the Allison Court House on March 6 and March 20 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Beneficiaries who earned over $1,200 in 1956 and were under 72 in any month must report earnings by April 16, 1957 to avoid benefit loss. Earl T. Greene district tours new Postville Monona schools

Sixty five people from the Greene Community School district toured the new elementary buildings at Postville and Monona. Postville shows a two year old campus with 20 classrooms and an all purpose room with a gym stage and retractable lunch seating. Monona impressed visitors with skylights glassed rooms and a ventilation system. Both sites include large recreation areas and surrounding plots for future athletic facilities. The Monona layout, though slightly costlier per square foot, drew the most favorable reaction for its advanced features.

World Day of Prayer services will be held Friday March 8 at the Presbyterian Church with the public invited to participate.
